Chapter Ten·Bhuvaneśvarī and the Two Yantras·Verses 1–70
दशमः पटलः
The tenth paṭala is devoted to Bhuvaneśvarī, the "Queen of the Worlds," and confirms this text's pattern of giving each of the great goddesses her own chapter — following Sarasvatī and Tripurā, and continuing the sequence anticipated for the paṭalas ahead. It opens with a demanding piece of sacred geometry: the "dvādaśaguṇita," a twelvefold yantra built from concentric circles, directional letters tied to Indra, Yama, Varuṇa, and Kubera, and an intricate scheme of interlocking triangles and fire-cities, capped with a wish-fulfilling gem at its heart. Once consecrated, this yantra becomes the seat for the goddess's worship, alongside an extraordinary roll call of sixty-four named Śaktis — Karālī, Durgā, Kālarātrī, Mahiṣāsuramardinī, and dozens more — presented by the text itself in four marked groups of sixteen, building toward the full sixty-four. The kalaśa so prepared may then be used to consecrate not only itself, but a son, a disciple, or a worthy king. A second yantra follows, the "ghaṭārgala" or pot-bolt diagram, constructed with the same exacting technical vocabulary and centred on a sixteen-syllabled Śākta mantra, its two seed-syllables pāśa and aṅkuśa explained through the text's characteristic style of syllable-by-syllable etymology — a rare glimpse of how this tradition builds meaning into its sounds. A brief but direct application follows for subjugating even kings and the celestial Urvaśī, before the paṭala turns from ritual technique to devotion outright. The remaining third of the chapter is the "Bhuvaneśvarī-stuti," a hymn that opens with a virtuoso verse in which nearly every word begins with the syllable "pra," and then unfolds a sweeping theological vision: the goddess as sound, space, touch, air, and the other elements; as the five senses and the mind's own faculties; as the sun, moon, and fire that sustain, nourish, and consume the world; as the hidden identity behind Brahmā's creating, Viṣṇu's sustaining, and Śiva's dissolving; and, by name, as Sarasvatī, Durgā, Lakṣmī, and the seven Mother-goddesses each bearing her own god's emblem. It closes, characteristically for this text, not on cosmic abstraction but on a simple, personal plea — that the devotee's every thought, word, and gesture become an offering to her.

In the centre, the Śakti seed ringed by the Vyāhṛtis in reverse order; around it, the Śakti rising at the joins of the two pairs of fire-figures (the twelve-pointed star). At the tips of the twelve corners write the Durgā seed, with the Māyā seed inside each; on the cheeks, the syllables of the Gāyatrī, two at a time, in reverse order. Outside, ring it with the Āgneya mantra in reverse, then with the letters forward and reversed, then with two earth-squares, writing "kṣauṃ" in their openings. This twelvefold yantra, the Wish-Gem, grants what one desires.
