The scripture, stotra and guide pages on OccultGuide carry two different licenses, one per layer.
The Sanskrit mūla — public domain
The received Sanskrit verses (the mūla text) are centuries old and belong to no one. We do not claim, and could not legally claim, any copyright over them — anywhere on this site, in our metadata, or in any correspondence. Copy them freely.
Our own layer — CC BY-SA 4.0
Everything we add around the mūla — the IAST transliteration, our English and Hindi translations, the padapātha/padārtha word-by-word gloss, and any commentary or editorial note — is original work, licensed under Creative Commons Attribution-ShareAlike 4.0 (CC BY-SA 4.0).
In practice, that means you may reuse, translate or adapt our translation and apparatus, including commercially, as long as you:
- Attribute — credit OccultGuide and link back to the page you drew from.
- Share alike — if you publish a modified or derivative version, it carries the same CC BY-SA 4.0 license, not a more restrictive one.
Citing a verse
Every verse on a scripture reader page carries its own "Cite" button with a ready-made plain-text citation. Machine-readable data for a single verse is also available at its own JSON URL, printed alongside the verse.
