Chapter Sixteen·Another Way of Yoga, and the Praise of the Work·Verses 13–49
The Śāradā gives yoga in another way. The body of ninety-six fingers is twofold; between anus and penis is the bulb, two fingers high and twice as wide, round, from which the nāḍīs arise, three of them chief: Iḍā on the left, Piṅgalā on the right and Suṣumnā between them resting on the spine, which reaches the two big toes and the head and, arriving at the seat of brahman, is of the form of moon, sun and fire. Within her is Citrā, dear to yogins, in which is the brahmarandhra fine as a lotus-fibre, and the supports of which teachers speak variously; this is the day-path, the cause of the bliss of nectar. The moon moves in Iḍā and the sun in Piṅgalā, and both in Suṣumnā, as the knowers of yoga's roots have found. In the middle of the bulb is a most beautiful triangle, the divine home of lights, and there Kuṇḍalī, the supreme deity, flashes like a lightning-creeper, the self of all, in the shape of a sleeping serpent; she bears the self resting on the haṃsa, the haṃsa rests on the breaths and the breaths on the paths of the nāḍīs. The wind rising from the support fills the body and passes out to a length of twelve fingers, whence it is called prāṇa. On a pleasant, soft, clean seat of silk, hide and kuśa the yogin binds his āsana; knowing the rising of the elements in the body by the breath he worships each element for firmness — the āsanas and the rising of the elements were stated before. Sealing the senses firmly with the fingers — the ears with the thumbs, the eyes with the forefingers, the nostrils with the middle fingers, the mouth with the rest — and remembering the oneness of self, breath and mind, he holds the breath: this is the yoga dear to yogins. As he practises, a sound arises: first like the song of a swarm of drunken bees, then like a flute, then like the note of a flute filled with the wind of cymbals, then like a bell, then like a thunder-cloud; so knowledge arises, the undying mark of the haṃsa, destroying the darkness of saṃsāra. The bindu and the visarga are Puruṣa and Prakṛti; from them arise the two that end in bindu and visarga, ha and sa, the haṃsa — ha is Puruṣa, sa is Prakṛti — and from them the ajapā that the soul repeats; when Prakṛti, thinking Puruṣa her support, attains his state, "I am he" arises; dropping sa and ha and joining what remains, the praṇava appears, made of supreme bliss and of the one quality of consciousness, which the yogin should ever contemplate as not different from the self. Then hymn-verses: the self-fixed see the self, the one ocean of bliss-essence, the first Tāraka far beyond the words of scripture; those who have stilled the senses see the self as truth without cause, first of the Vedic words, cause of the world, pervading the moving and unmoving, with the body of sun, moon and fire, the abode of eternal bliss; worship that supreme light known through the five glories of the Tāra, sought by the crest of the Veda, the dense ocean of nectar; the wise worship the golden many-coloured Puruṣa, root of the three forms, seed of the scriptures, the size of a thumb, pure consciousness in the disc of the sun; they meditate on the first one lying on the serpent couch in the ocean of milk with Kamalā at his side, eyes like full-blown lotuses, dark as collyrium, with Brahmā on his navel-lotus; the doers of good behold the ancient Puruṣa, dark as a cloud, with Śrīvatsa, Kaustubha, mace, lotus, conch and discus, dwelling in the heart-lotus, sole root of the world; may the body of the enemy of the cities, root of bliss, born of nāda from the bindu, the Tāra surrounded by the letters, the four feet of the Āmnāya, bathed in the nectar from the moon-digit on his crown, protect us. The piṇḍa is Kuṇḍalinī, the pada is the haṃsa, the rūpa is the bindu, and the union of Śiva is beyond form; the yoga of piṇḍa and the rest is with seed, dissolution in Śiva is without seed and looks to no fruit. Kuṇḍalī, like the king of serpents, rises through Suṣumnā, piercing the supports like lightning, is bathed in the nectar flowing from the moon in the sky-lotus and returns to her home; she goes out from her support, takes the eternal haṃsa by the hand, goes to Śambhu's house, tastes the highest joy and returns, bright as a crore of suns, to be meditated on as the enchantress of the world; she carries the unmanifest light of the supreme bindu to Śiva's abode, sees the breaker of cities in the midst of the nectar of bliss and returns to her city; we worship her who rises in the middle path from the clash of the two winds, passing beyond all sound into the light of a crore of lightnings, red as fresh china-rose, vermilion and dawn, made of the nectar of dense bliss, the supreme deity who has reached the supreme Śiva; in her coming and going she yields the fruits of yoga, the wish-cow of kula, the wishing-creeper of her devotees. Finally the praise from the Yāmala: all knowledge and all scriptures are in the Āgama, and from the Āgama comes the highest state; those who study, recite or teach this text hold the eight siddhis and wealth, grain and sons in their hands, are honoured in all worlds and attain the supreme brahman. The author asks the Mother to forgive the faults that have arisen from readings contrary to the Veda and the śāstras and from making plain what was hidden, and begs the treasure of compassion to pardon whatever secret he in his folly has made clear in this Tantra — for anger does not befit the wretched. Here the Tantrasāra composed by the Mahāmahopādhyāya Śrī Kṛṣṇānanda Vāgīśa Bhaṭṭācārya ends.

Now another way. "The body is ninety-six fingers in length and twofold in nature. Between the anus and the penis they know the bulb, two fingers in height, twice as wide, adorned with a round form. The nāḍīs arise there; three of them are proclaimed chief."
