On which day should the Navratri fast be broken (Paran)?
Paran is performed only once Dashami begins — never on Ashtami or Navami just because Kanya Pujan is done, since Shailputri's worship and the whole Dashami procedure remain and breaking early breaks the vow.
When may the Kalash not be removed from the house, and how long must the Jyot burn?
If Dashami falls on a Thursday the Kalash is not carried out of the house — it is still moved in place — and the Akhand Jyot must stay lit until the Kalash is moved, never extinguished early for want of ghee or oil.
