Chapter One·The Teaching of Knowledge and Yoga·Verses 1–72
Chapter 15 of the Mahābhāgavata, the first chapter of the Pārvatī Gītā. Nārada asks Śiva how the Supreme Goddess was born from Menakā as Pārvatī, and Śiva tells it. She is born on an auspicious day, with flowers falling from the sky, and Himavān sees she is the Mother of the world. He asks who she is. She says she is the highest power, mother of Brahmā, Viṣṇu and Śiva, and that she has come as their daughter, pleased by their austerity. At his request she shows her form as Śiva, then her form as Viṣṇu, and then a dark four-armed form. Himavān praises her in a long hymn, and Menakā too bows to her. Himavān then asks her for the knowledge of Brahman. Pārvatī begins her teaching. Take a teacher's mantra, give body, mind and speech to her, and worship her with the rites of one's own station. Knowledge brings freedom, and devotion is its cause. Keep the mind clean, stay away from desire and harm, and study the Vedānta. When the Self is seen directly, freedom is there.

You are Svāhā, who gives all the gods their fill, Queen of the world. You are Svadhā, the cause of the fathers' fill, the self of the God of gods. You alone are the offering to the gods and to the fathers, the vow, the sacrifice, austerity and the gift to the priest. You are the fruit of heaven and the rest, giver of every fruit, Queen of the gods. I bow to you.
Explanation
Svāhā is the call with which an offering is given to the gods; Svadhā, the call for the fathers (the departed ancestors). Both are named here as the Goddess herself.
