Should Vedic Suktas like the Sri Suktam be recited without wearing the sacred thread?
Vedic Suktas such as the Sri Suktam from the Rigveda should ideally be recited while wearing the sacred thread (Yajnopavita).
Should one recite the Shri Suktam or the Mahalakshmi Ashtakam?
If you wear the yajnopavit, the speaker says, then recite the Shri Suktam and the rest; and if not, then the Mahalakshmi Ashtakam — the Indra-krita Mahalakshmi Ashtak, whose mahatmya he calls wonderful.
Who may recite the Shri Sukta and Purush Sukta?
Asked which Vishnu Narayan anushthan may be done in the five days of Diwali, he says he will put that out separately tomorrow. To Abhishek Srivastava ji he says: the Shri Sukta, the Lakshmi Sukta, the Purush Sukta — all these should be done after learning the uccharan, and should be done only by those who wear the yajnopavit. Others should do the pauranik stotras — do the Lakshmi Ashtak, do the Mahalakshmi Ashtak. The path of a Sukta is vedokta, so vedokta people should do it. This, he says, is not according to him but according to shastra; he is only giving you the information, and you are free to take the decision. If, knowing the truth, you do wrong, that is your wish.
What is the Shri Sukta prayoga for destroying daridrata?
If you wear the yajnopavit, then certainly do the Shri Sukta — there is no easier means of the attainment of wealth than that, he says. It is said that if sixteen recitations each of the Shri Sukta and the Purush Sukta are done daily, continuously for sixteen days, and especially in the month of Kartik, then the daridrata of birth after birth is finished. And if the samputit path of the Shri Sukta is done — samputit with the Daridra Dahan mantra, which is the mantra of the Durga Saptashati — sixteen recitations for sixteen days, then the daridrata of hundreds upon hundreds of births is removed. But you must be entitled.
What havan follows that Shri Sukta prayoga?
After that there is a havan too, with kheer and madhu: on the last day, sixteen recitations with the mantras of the Shri Sukta, and of whatever samput mantra you have, at least one thousand and eight ahutis according to the sixteen days, or else at least one hundred and eight ahutis. If you do it in this manner, the incomparable grace of Bhagavati Lakshmi is obtained. This is according to the Mahalakshmi Kalpa, he says — he is not telling something fabricated; the Mahalakshmi Kalpa, that is, according to the form of Bhagavati Mahalakshmi who is Bhagavati Durga of the eighteen-armed pujan, of the Madhyam Charitra. In that this is described.
How is a lok devata like Sokha Baba worshipped for special grace?
The speaker says he told above and tells again that Virabhadra and Bhadrakali are chiefly worshipped. If you want special grace and special pujan, then, as he has said before, the method of worshipping lok devi-devatas is of a limited measure — there are no particular mantras there. Pandit ji become very pleased and have the pujan done with the Purush Suktam and the Shri Suktam; and if you have it done through a good pandit ji of your own place, that is, the kul purohit who has the knowledge. But if you want something special, then you will have to go to their root swarup — Sokha Baba, that is Virabhadra, and their Parmeshwari, that is Bhagavati Bhadrakali.
In what order should a beginner raise the level of his pujan?
A person will not suddenly do shodashopachar with the Purusha Suktam. He will first do it in his own way, gradually with a simple namo mantra; then with a pauranik mantra; and when he has gained practice in the Shri Sukta and Purusha Sukta, he will do it with those. Things increase gradually for the one who actually does them.
What havan is prescribed for wealth and radiance?
With the Shri Suktam and the rest, with the Ashtottara Shatanamavali and the Sahasranamavali of Bhagavati Lakshmi, you should perform havan with the pulp of the bel, upon the samidha of the bel tree. This is done for the obtaining of Lakshmi, for the obtaining of radiance, for the obtaining of wealth, and for collective vashikaran and akarshan and so on.
May a woman recite the Shri Suktam daily?
A listener says she does three paths of the Shri Suktam daily. His answer: if you are a woman, then the plain matter is that the Shri Suktam falls under the Vedic; and so its utterance should be done only by those who wear the yajnopavita. Today, having watched videos from South India and elsewhere, people say who stops anyone, everyone does it — but, he says, brother, you cannot do it. By his information, Shri Suktam and Purusha Suktam are Vedic mantras, and there is no adhikara to utter them when there is not even adhikara for Gayatri.
Why the Lakshmi kalash is charged with Mahalakshmi Ashtak and not Shri Suktam
The speaker says the Mahalakshmi Ashtakam has endless glory and is the best choice here. The Shri Suktam, he says, may be recited by men who wear the Yajnopavita; others have to learn it, because it is a Rigvedic sukta and the svara must be pronounced correctly, so most people cannot do it, and women should not do it at all, it being forbidden in many places and said so by scholars. When the three worlds had lost their Shri through the curse of Durvasa rishi, it was this Ashtak that Indra recited; Mahalakshmi was pleased and, as a blessing, appeared again from the samudra manthan as one of the fourteen ratnas, which is why she is called the daughter of the Kshir Samudra. So everyone is to charge the items with the Mahalakshmi Ashtak alone, the one beginning "Namastestu Mahamaye Shripithe Surapujite, Shankha Chakra Gada Haste Mahalakshmi Namostute"; he says he will put a PDF link in the description.
