Chapter Seven · The Pillar of Fire · Verses 1–33

To end the battle between the warring Brahmā and Viṣṇu, Śiva appears between them as a boundless pillar of fire. Each sets out to find an end to it — Viṣṇu downward as a boar, Brahmā upward as a swan — and both fail; but Brahmā persuades a ketakī flower to lie that he reached the top, and briefly wins Viṣṇu's worship by the deceit, until Śiva himself steps out of the pillar to judge between the false claim and Viṣṇu's honesty.

Children, blessings on you — does it go well under my rule? Do the world and the line of gods hold to their own work, or not?

“And beyond this, of your own separate form, there shall be establishment in holy fields, festival, and worship.”

NoteIn a longer metre than the anuṣṭubh of the body, matching the elevated moment.
