Chapter Eight · Śiva's Grace · Verses 1–21

Śiva sends Bhairava, born of his own frown, to behead deceitful Brahmā for his false witness. At Viṣṇu's tearful plea Brahmā is spared his life, but Śiva curses him to go without worship, temple or festival in the world, and gives Brahmā instead mastery over rites; the ketakī flower, banished for its false testimony, is likewise barred from Śiva's own worship, though promised a place in the worship of others.

Then Mahādeva created a certain wonderful person, called Bhairava, from between his brows, wishing to destroy Brahmā's pride.
