Chapter Seven·The Vision of the Universal Form·Verses 1–45
Rāma says he has not yet understood: how can a world that rises and ends be in a body of limited size? Śiva answers with images: a huge banyan tree in a tiny seed, a lump of salt that dissolves in water and can be got back by boiling, the sun that rises anew each day. Rāma says he is still confused, like one who has lost his sense of direction. Śiva gives him a divine eye and shows him the universe inside his mouth: countless worlds like sparks, mountains, seas, wars of gods and demons, the ten forms of Viṣṇu, the burning of the three cities, things born and dying. Rāma bows in terror and then praises him with truths from the Upaniṣads: the world is born from Śiva, lives in him and dissolves in him; it is seen through Māyā as silver is seen in a shell, or a snake in a rope; worship and offerings are for the worshipper's sake, since nothing is different from Śiva. Rāma asks him to withdraw the form. Śiva does so, shows himself again in his gentle form on the mountain, and invites Rāma to ask whatever he wishes.

Explanation

The Lord said: "Look, Rāma, mighty-armed: there is no one other than me." Sūta said: Having said this, he drew the gods and all the rest back into his own body.
Explanation
The first line is the Lord's words and the second is Sūta's, so the speaker changes inside this verse.

Then, at his command, Rāma bowed before him and sat down. And the Lord of the gods said to Rāma: "Ask whatever you wish to ask. Ask all of it, Rāma; you have no teacher but me."
