Chapter Six·The Yoga of Manifestations·Verses 1–57
Rāma is puzzled: Śiva stands before him in a limited form, with Ambā and his hosts, yet is said to be the source of the whole world. How can this be? Śiva answers with a long list of what he is. The five elements, the fourteen worlds, the gods, demons and sages, the directions, the Vedas and their metres, the histories, the senses and their objects, all gods by name, time and death: all are his manifestations. Long ago Brahmā and the gods came to see him on Mount Mandara; he took away their knowledge, and when they asked who he was, he told them he alone was before and after everything. He explains his names: he is Oṃ, the praṇava, since he makes all bow; Ananta, since neither Brahmā nor Hari found his end; Tāra, since he carries devotees over saṃsāra; Sūkṣma, Vaidyuta, Eka, Rudra and Maheśvara, for the reasons he gives. Those who see him in the Self find lasting peace, and those who know him as the one Brahman, without hands or feet yet seeing and hearing all, reach final freedom.

I alone rule over the source, and by me all this fivefold world is filled. Whoever considers me thus, as the ruler, the Person, the god, reaches utmost peace.
Explanation

They say that the mark of the mind lies within the life-breaths, where hunger, thirst and forbearance dwell. Those who cut craving at the root of the net of causes, set the mind on me here with the intellect, and so worship me in meditation: for them there is lasting peace, and not for others.
