A great golden chariot appears, joyfully made ready with music, perfumes and dancing peacocks. Śiva steps down from the bull with Ambā and sits on a couch there. Rāma bows; Śiva lifts him, has them both sip water, and sits him on his lap. He gives Rāma a divine bow, an endless quiver, and the Mahāpāśupata weapon, and warns him to use it only when his life is in danger, since it would destroy the world if used at any other time. Śiva then calls the guardians of the world and has each of them give Rāma his own weapon, and tells them to be born as monkeys to help Rāma. Rāma doubts that two men can cross the sea and defeat Rāvaṇa's mighty hosts. Śiva tells him not to hesitate, since the demons have turned to wrongdoing and their time has come. The monkeys of Kiṣkindhā will build a bridge, divine weapons are not to be used on the weak, and in the end Śiva himself is the death of the world and the demons are already in his mouth; Rāma is only the means.
