Brahmā continues his narration to Nārada: at that time a brāhmaṇa named Nārada, who was performing a sacrifice, came before Kārtikeya seeking refuge, praising him at length as lord of the whole universe, the refuge of all, dear to the devoted, and the son of Śiva and Pārvatī. He explained that he had begun an ajamedha sacrifice, but the sacrificial goat had broken its binding and fled his home; though he had searched far and wide he could not find it, and without it his sacrifice would be ruined. Since Kārtikeya alone was his refuge, he begged him to fulfil his desire and save the sacrifice from failure. Moved by this praise, the divine emperor, Śiva's son, sent his own gaṇa named Vīrabāhu to search for the goat. Vīrabāhu searched the whole universe without success, until he heard of the disturbance the goat was causing and traced it to Vaikuṇṭha, where it was found wreaking havoc, a great sacrificial post still tied to its neck. Seizing it by its two horns and subduing it with great force despite its loud bellowing, Vīrabāhu brought it before his lord. Seeing it, Kārtikeya himself, bearer of the whole universe's weight, mounted upon it, and in the space of a moment the goat carried him wandering effortlessly through the whole universe before returning to the very same spot. Kārtikeya then dismounted and resumed his seat, and the goat stood there as Nārada, that same brāhmaṇa, spoke to him: bowing down, he begged Kārtikeya to give him back the goat so that he might joyfully complete his sacrifice and asked to be counted as his friend. Kārtikeya replied that the goat was not fit to be slain, that the sacrifice was already rendered complete by his own grace, and bade the brāhmaṇa return home. Hearing this, the delighted brāhmaṇa gave Kārtikeya his highest blessing and went back to his own dwelling.

Then there, that son of the Gaṅgā [Kārtikeya] showed forth that further sport; hear it now with great delight, O Nārada — an account that itself grants devotion.

He made a search through the whole sphere of the universe; he did not find that goat anywhere, until he heard of the disturbance it was causing.

The hero, having seized it by its two horns and overpowered it with very great force, brought it before his lord, as it made a great deal of noise.
Noteशृङ्गयोः here is a dual "horns" — the goat's two horns, seized by Vīrabāhu — not a proper name.
