Chapter Eleven·The Going of the Soul and Its Freedom·Verses 1–45
Śiva tells Rāma how the soul leaves the body and where it goes. When the fire of the belly weakens, the bond between the gross and the subtle body loosens, and the subtle body falls away like a ripe fruit. It gathers the senses' impressions in the heart and goes out, joined with knowledge, action and impressions, to take another body, as a fish moves between two banks. One who has done sacrifices and works of charity goes by the way of smoke to the world of the moon, enjoys it, and returns through space, air, rain and grain to be born again; one who has done wrong goes to the hells. One who has calm and knowledge goes by the way of light to the world of Brahmā and is freed there; one devoted to pure Brahman goes nowhere, and his breaths dissolve like salt in water. Rāma asks about the joys of the other worlds, and Śiva ranks them, each a hundred times the one before, with knowledge of the self above all. A brahmin who knows is higher than all, and feeding such a one is worth feeding a crore of brahmins. The chapter ends by urging Rāma to be devoted to worship and stay happy.

What is eaten and drunk there, through its juice, forms a raw bond between the gross body and the subtle body, and by that life is kept up.
Explanation
The bond is called raw because it holds only as long as the body keeps being fed. When the juice stops, the bond loosens.

Since a worshipper never goes again to a lower state, become devoted to worship and so stay happy, O king.

The bond is called raw because it holds only as long as the body keeps being fed. When the juice stops, the bond loosens.
