गौतम नारि उधारी

At the touch of his holy feet, which destroy sorrow, the woman appears as a heap of austerity. She sees Raghunātha and stands before him with folded hands, trembling with love, tears streaming, unable to speak. She steadies her mind, recognises the Lord and receives devotion by his grace. She praises him in pure words, calling herself an impure woman and him the purifier of the world, and begs protection. She says the sage's curse was a good thing, for she has seen Hari to her eyes' fill. She asks no other boon but that her mind, like a bee, drink the sweet juice of his feet. She falls at his feet again and again and goes full of joy to her husband's world. शोक का नाश करने वाले पावन चरणों के स्पर्श से वह तपोमूर्ति सचमुच प्रकट हो गई। भक्तों को सुख देने वाले रघुनायक को देखकर वह हाथ जोड़कर सामने खड़ी हो गई; अति प्रेम से अधीर, शरीर पुलकित, मुख से बोल नहीं निकलते, और दोनों आँखों से आँसुओं की धारा बह चली। उसने मन में धैर्य किया, प्रभु को पहचाना और रघुपति की कृपा से भक्ति पाई। अति निर्मल वाणी में उसने स्तुति की: मैं अपवित्र नारी हूँ और आप जगत को पवित्र करने वाले हैं; मेरी रक्षा कीजिए, मैं शरण में आई हूँ। उसने कहा कि मुनि ने जो श्राप दिया वह बहुत अच्छा किया, क्योंकि मैंने जन्म-मृत्यु से छुड़ाने वाले हरि को आँख भरकर देखा। उसने और कोई वर नहीं माँगा, बस यही कि मेरा मन-भौंरा आपके चरण-कमलों की रज का रस पीता रहे। इस प्रकार वह बार-बार हरि के चरणों पर गिरती और आनंद से भरी पतिलोक चली गई।

Restless with deep love, her body thrilled, and no words would come to her lips. Greatly blessed, she fell at his feet, and streams of tears flowed from both her eyes.

उसने मन में धैर्य किया, प्रभु को पहचाना और रघुपति की कृपा से भक्ति पाई। अति निर्मल वाणी में उसने स्तुति आरंभ की: 'हे ज्ञान से जानने योग्य रघुराई, आपकी जय हो! प्रभु, मैं अपवित्र नारी हूँ और आप जगत को पवित्र करने वाले, रावण के शत्रु और भक्तों को सुख देने वाले हैं। हे कमल-नयन, संसार के भय से छुड़ाने वाले, मेरी रक्षा कीजिए, रक्षा कीजिए, मैं शरण में आई हूँ।

She steadied her mind and recognised the Lord, and by Raghupati's grace she gained devotion. In very pure words she began her praise: 'Glory to Raghurāī, who is known through knowledge! I am an impure woman, Lord, and you purify the world, enemy of Rāvaṇa, giver of joy to your people. Lotus-eyed, freeing us from the fear of worldly existence, protect me, protect me, I have come for refuge.

छंद ३छंद 3 मुनि श्राप जो दीन्हा अति भल कीन्हा परम अनुग्रह मैं माना। देखेउँ भरि लोचन हरि भवमोचन इहइ लाभ संकर जाना ॥ बिनती प्रभु मोरी मैं मति भोरी नाथ न मागउँ बर आना। पद कमल परागा रस अनुरागा मम मन मधुप करै पाना ॥

The curse the sage gave was a very good thing; I count it a great favour. I have seen Hari, who frees from worldly existence, to my eyes' fill; this is the gain that Śaṅkara knew. Lord, hear my plea: I am simple-minded and ask for no other boon. Let my mind, like a bee, drink the sweet juice of love in the pollen of your lotus feet.

छंद ४छंद 4 जेहिं पद सुरसरिता परम पुनीता प्रगट भई सिव सीस धरी। सोइ पद पंकज जेहि पूजत अज मम सिर धरेउ कृपाल हरी ॥ एहि भाँति सिधारी गौतम नारी बार बार हरि चरन परी। जो अति मन भावा सो बरु पावा गै पतिलोक अनंद भरी ॥

jehiṃ pada surasaritā parama punītā pragaṭa bhaī siva sīsa dharī | soi pada paṃkaja jehi pūjata aja mama sira dhareu kṛpāla harī | ehi bhām̐ti sidhārī gautama nārī bāra bāra hari carana parī | jo ati mana bhāvā so baru pāvā gai patiloka anaṃda bharī ||

जिस चरण से परम पावन गंगा प्रकट हुईं, जिन्हें शिव ने अपने सिर पर धारण किया, और जिस चरण-कमल की ब्रह्मा पूजा करते हैं, उसे कृपालु हरि ने मेरे सिर पर रखा। इस प्रकार बार-बार हरि के चरणों में गिरती हुई गौतम की पत्नी चली गई। जो वर उसे अत्यंत मन को भाया, वही उसने पाया, और आनंद से भरी हुई वह पतिलोक चली गई।

From that foot the most holy river of the gods came forth, and Śiva bore it on his head. That same lotus foot, which Brahmā worships, the merciful Hari placed on my head. In this way Gautama's wife departed, falling again and again at Hari's feet. She received the boon her heart most desired, and went full of joy to her husband's world.
