निर्भय जग्य करहु तुम्ह जाई
In the morning Rāma tells the sage to perform his sacrifice without fear, and himself guards it. Angry Mārīca rushes in with his helpers, and Rāma strikes him with a blunt arrow that throws him a hundred leagues across the sea. He kills Subāhu with a fire-arrow, and his brother destroys the army. The gods and sages praise him. After some days with the brahmins, the sage tells him of the bow sacrifice, and they set out. On the road they see a hermitage empty of living creatures, and a stone. The sage tells the story: Gautama's wife, under a curse, waits in a stone body for the dust of his feet.प्रातःकाल रघुराई ने मुनि से कहा कि आप निर्भय होकर यज्ञ कीजिए। सब मुनि होम करने लगे और प्रभु स्वयं यज्ञ की रखवाली करते रहे। क्रोधी मारीच यह सुनकर सहायकों को लेकर दौड़ा, तब राम ने बिना फल का बाण मारा और वह सौ योजन दूर समुद्र पार जा गिरा। फिर अग्नि-बाण से सुबाहु को मारा और छोटे भाई ने राक्षसों की सेना का संहार किया। ब्राह्मणों को निर्भय करके सब देवता और मुनि स्तुति करने लगे। कुछ दिन वहाँ रहकर राम ने ब्राह्मणों पर दया की; फिर मुनि ने आदर से समझाकर कहा कि प्रभु, धनुष-यज्ञ देखने चलिए, और वे मुनि के साथ चल पड़े। मार्ग में उन्होंने एक ऐसा आश्रम देखा जहाँ पक्षी, मृग या कोई जीव न था। एक शिला देखकर उन्होंने मुनि से पूछा, और मुनि ने सब कथा विस्तार से कही: गौतम की पत्नी श्रापवश पत्थर का शरीर धरे आपके चरण-कमलों की रज चाहती है।

प्रातःकाल रघुराई ने मुनि से कहा, 'आप जाकर निर्भय होकर यज्ञ कीजिए।' सब मुनि होम करने लगे और प्रभु स्वयं यज्ञ की रखवाली में रहे।
In the morning Raghurāī said to the sage, 'Go and perform your sacrifice without fear.' All the sages began the fire-offering, and he himself stayed on guard over the sacrifice.

२2सुनि मारीच निसाचर क्रोही। लै सहाय धावा मुनिद्रोही ॥बिनु फर बान राम तेहि मारा। सत जोजन गा सागर पारा ॥

यह सुनकर क्रोधी राक्षस मारीच, जो मुनियों का शत्रु था, सहायकों को लेकर दौड़ा। राम ने उसे बिना फल का बाण मारा, और वह सौ योजन दूर समुद्र के पार जा गिरा।
Hearing this, the angry demon Mārīca, enemy of sages, rushed in with his helpers. Rāma struck him with an arrow without a blade, and he was thrown a hundred leagues, across the sea.

३3पावक सर सुबाहु पुनि मारा। अनुज निसाचर कटकु सँघारा ॥मारि असुर द्विज निर्मयकारी। अस्तुति करहिं देव मुनि झारी ॥

फिर उन्होंने अग्नि-बाण से सुबाहु को मारा, और छोटे भाई ने राक्षसों की सेना का संहार कर दिया। असुरों को मारकर ब्राह्मणों को निर्भय करने पर सब देवता और मुनि स्तुति करने लगे।
Then he killed Subāhu with a fire-arrow, and his younger brother destroyed the demon army. Having killed the demons and made the brahmins fearless, the gods and all the sages praised him.

४4तहँ पुनि कछुक दिवस रघुराया। रहे कीन्हि बिप्रन्ह पर दाया ॥भगति हेतु बहु कथा पुराना। कहे बिप्र जद्यपि प्रभु जाना ॥

रघुराय कुछ दिन वहाँ रहे और ब्राह्मणों पर दया की। भक्ति के कारण ब्राह्मणों ने बहुत कथा-पुराण कहे, यद्यपि प्रभु उन्हें जानते थे।
Raghurāya stayed there some days, showing kindness to the brahmins. Out of devotion the brahmins told many old stories, though the Lord already knew them.

५5तब मुनि सादर कहा बुझाई। चरित एक प्रभु देखिअ जाई ॥धनुषजग्य मुनि रघुकुल नाथा। हरषि चले मुनिबर के साथा ॥

तब मुनि ने आदर से समझाकर कहा, 'हे प्रभु, एक चरित जाकर देखना चाहिए: धनुष-यज्ञ।' रघुकुल के नाथ हर्षित होकर मुनिवर के साथ चले।
Then the sage respectfully explained, 'Lord, there is one event you should go and see: the bow sacrifice.' The lord of the Raghus gladly went with the great sage.

६6आश्रम एक दीख मग माहीं। खग मृग जीव जंतु तहँ नाहीं ॥पूछा मुनिहि सिला प्रभु देखी। सकल कथा मुनि कहा बिसेषी ॥

मार्ग में उन्होंने एक आश्रम देखा जहाँ पक्षी, मृग या कोई जीव-जंतु नहीं था। प्रभु ने एक शिला देखी और मुनि से पूछा, और मुनि ने सब कथा विस्तार से कही।
On the way he saw a hermitage with no birds, deer or any living creature. The Lord saw a rock there and asked the sage about it, and the sage told the whole story in detail.
