Chapter Sixteen · Bowing to Ayodhyā and its king · Verses 1–

The poet bows to holy Ayodhyā and the river Sarayū, which destroys the dirt of the dark age, and to the men and women of the city, to whom the Lord gives much love. Those who slandered Sītā were destroyed with all their sins, and made to live in a world without sorrow. He bows to Kausalyā, the east from which the fame of Rāma rose, where Raghupati came forth like the lovely moon that delights the world and is frost to the wicked lotus. He bows to Daśaratha and all his queens, forms of merit and good. In deed, mind and speech he salutes them and asks their mercy as a servant and a son. The Creator became great by making Rāma's father and mother, the limit of greatness. In the soraṭhā he bows to the king of Ayodhyā, whose love for Rāma's feet was true, who gave up his body like a straw when the kind Lord left him.
