Chapter Fifteen·Bowing to Śiva and Pārvatī·Verses 1–दोहा 15
हर गौरि पसाउ
The poet bows again to Sarasvatī and the Gaṅgā, two holy and lovely stories: one bathing and drinking takes away sin, the other telling and hearing takes away ignorance. He bows to Maheśa and Bhavānī as guru, father and mother, friends of the poor and givers to them, and as friend and Lord of Sītā's husband and well-wishers of Tulasī in every way. Seeing the dark age, Śiva and Girijā made the net of Śābara charms, where the letters do not agree and have no meaning to repeat, yet Śiva's power shows. That Lord of Umā will be kind to the poet and make the story a root of joy and good. Remembering Śivā and Śiva and getting their grace, he will tell Rāma's story with a keen heart. His verse shines by Śiva's grace, as the night with the moon and its friends. Those who tell and hear it with love and a clear mind will grow fond of Rāma's feet, free of the dirt of the age and sharers of good. In the dohā: if Hara and Gaurī are truly kind to him, even in a dream, then whatever he has said of the power of this common-speech poem will come true.कवि फिर सरस्वती और गंगा को प्रणाम करता है, दो पवित्र और मनोहर चरित्र वाली: एक में स्नान और जलपान से पाप मिटता है, दूसरी की कथा कहने और सुनने से अज्ञान मिटता है। वह महेश और भवानी को गुरु, पिता और माता मानकर, दीनों के बन्धु और दानी जानकर प्रणाम करता है, जो सीता के पति के सेवक, स्वामी और मित्र हैं और तुलसी का सब भाँति निष्कपट हित करने वाले हैं। कलियुग को देखकर शिव और पार्वती ने शाबर मंत्रों का जाल रचा, जिसमें अक्षर बेमेल हैं और अर्थ और जप भी नहीं, फिर भी महेश का प्रताप प्रकट है। वे उमापति उस पर कृपा करेंगे और कथा को आनन्द और मंगल की जड़ बनाएँगे। शिवा और शिव का स्मरण करके और उनकी कृपा पाकर वह चित्त के चाव से रामचरित कहेगा। शिव की कृपा से उसकी रचना ऐसी शोभा देगी जैसे चन्द्रमा और तारों के साथ रात। जो इस कथा को स्नेह के साथ समझकर, सावधान होकर कहेंगे-सुनेंगे, वे राम के चरणों के प्रेमी होंगे, कलियुग के मल से रहित और सुमंगल के भागी। दोहे में है कि यदि हर और गौरी की सपने में भी सचमुच कृपा हो, तो भाषा की इस रचना के प्रभाव का जो कुछ उसने कहा है वह सच हो।

Again I bow to Sarasvatī and the Gaṅgā, whose stories are both pure and lovely. One takes away sin by bathing and drinking, the other takes away ignorance by telling and hearing.

कलियुग को देखकर जगत् के हित के लिए शिव-पार्वती ने शाबर मंत्रों का जाल रचा। उसके अक्षर बेमेल हैं, न अर्थ है, न जप, फिर भी महेश का प्रताप प्रकट है।
Seeing the dark age, Girijā and Hara made, for the good of the world, the net of Śābara spells. Their letters do not agree, there is no meaning and no counting of them, yet Maheśa's power is plain.

May that lord of Umā be kind to me and make this story the root of joy and good. Remembering Śivā and Śiva, and getting their favour, I tell the story of Rāma with a keen heart.

My verse shines by Śiva's grace, like the night joined with the moon and the stars. Those who tell and hear it with love, understanding it with a wakeful mind,
