अथ त्रयोदशोऽध्यायः
Brahmā gives the supreme, most detailed rite of Śiva-worship: dawn rising with a heartfelt prayer at Śiva's feet, purification and tooth-cleaning, bathing by the rule of place and time, tripuṇḍra and rudrākṣa, the resolve (saṅkalpa), the worship of Gaṇeśa, the doorkeeper Mahodara, and Girijā, installation of a home liṅga (of clay if nothing else is at hand), prāṇa-pratiṣṭhā, invocation of Śiva by a dhyāna-mantra describing his full form, the offerings of pādya, arghya, the five-nectar bath, water-streams, sandal, incense, lamp, food and betel, the great sufficiency of a single bilva leaf where nothing else is at hand, ārati, circumambulation, prostration, a flower-offering with a prayer for forgiveness, and, at the end, the rite of dismissal.ब्रह्मा जी शिवपूजा की सर्वोत्तम, अत्यन्त विस्तृत विधि बताते हैं — ब्राह्ममुहूर्त में उठकर शिव के चरणों में हार्दिक प्रार्थना, शुद्धि और दन्तधावन, देश-काल के नियमानुसार स्नान, त्रिपुण्ड्र और रुद्राक्ष, संकल्प, गणेश, द्वारपाल महोदर तथा गिरिजा का पूजन, घर में शिवलिंग की स्थापना (अन्य कुछ न हो तो मिट्टी से भी), प्राणप्रतिष्ठा, शिव के पूर्ण स्वरूप का वर्णन करने वाले ध्यानमन्त्र से आवाहन, पाद्य, अर्घ्य, पंचामृत स्नान, जलधारा, चन्दन, धूप, दीप, नैवेद्य और ताम्बूल का अर्पण, अन्य कुछ न होने पर एकमात्र बिल्वपत्र की पर्याप्तता, आरती, प्रदक्षिणा, प्रणाम, क्षमाप्रार्थना सहित पुष्पांजलि, तथा अन्त में विसर्जन की विधि।

उपासक को चाहिये कि वह ब्राह्ममुहूर्त में उठकर जगदम्बा पार्वती सहित भगवान् शिव का स्मरण करे तथा हाथ जोड़ मस्तक झुकाकर भक्तिपूर्वक उनसे इस प्रकार प्रार्थना करे —

इस तरह देश-काल का विचार करके ही विधिपूर्वक स्नान करे। स्नान के समय अपने मुख को उत्तर अथवा पूर्व की ओर रखना चाहिये।
Having thus considered place and time, one should bathe duly, facing north, or else again facing east.

Here ends the thirteenth chapter — “The Account of Śiva-Worship” — in the tale of creation, in the first section, of the second Saṃhitā, that of Rudra, of the venerable Śiva Mahāpurāṇa.
