Śiva, together with Umā, appears before Brahmā and Viṣṇu, teaches them the worship of his liṅga, and declares them born from his right and left sides — Brahmā to create, Viṣṇu to preserve — granting their prayer for unwavering devotion and for his own future descent as Rudra.
