Chapter Thirteen·Dakṣa's Sons and His Curse Upon Nārada·Verses 1–40
Nārada asks Brahmā what happened once Dakṣa had gone home. Brahmā tells how Dakṣa's purely mental creation failed to increase the population of beings, and how, on Brahmā's advice, Dakṣa married Asiklī, daughter of Pañcajana, and through her begot ten thousand sons, the Haryaśvas. Sent west by their father to perform austerity for the sake of increasing progeny, the Haryaśvas were purified at the sacred confluence of the Nārāyaṇa-sara tīrtha. Nārada, understanding Viṣṇu's own intent, went to them and asked how they could undertake creation without having seen the extent of the world; persuaded, they abandoned creation for the path of renunciation and never returned. Grieving at their loss but consoled by Brahmā, Dakṣa begot a thousand more sons, the Śabalāśvas, who went to the very same place and met the identical fate at Nārada's hands. This time Dakṣa, overcome with grief and rage, confronts Nārada directly, reviling him as merciless and shameless for teaching the mendicant's path to sons still bound by their debts to sages, gods and ancestors, and curses him to wander eternally, never settled in one place. Brahmā closes by noting that Nārada, unchanging of mind, simply accepted the curse himself — for this, he says, is how a true sādhu endures such a wrong.

He who does not know the command of the good scriptures and of his father that turns one back — how could he, still trusting in the guṇas, undertake to bring about creation?

Thus, in his grief, Dakṣa cursed you, who were held in honour by the good; deluded by Śiva's māyā, he did not understand the will of the Lord.

Here ends the thirteenth chapter — "The Curse Upon Nārada, in the Creation of Dakṣa" — in the second section, of Satī, of the second Saṃhitā, that of Rudra, of the venerable Śiva Mahāpurāṇa.
