हिमालयस्तदागत्य (himālayastadāgatya) — Himālaya, having then comeHimālaya, having then come·पार्वतीं कृतनिश्चयाम् (pārvatīṃ kṛtaniścayām) — to Pārvatī, firm in her resolveto Pārvatī, firm in her resolve·सभार्यः ससुतामात्यः (sabhāryaḥ sasutāmātyaḥ) — together with his wife, son, and ministerstogether with his wife, son, and ministers·उवाच परमेश्वरीम् (uvāca parameśvarīm) — addressed the supreme goddessaddressed the supreme goddess

मा खिद्यतां महाभागे (mā khidyatāṃ mahābhāge) — do not grieve, O most fortunate onedo not grieve, O most fortunate one·तपसानेन पार्वति (tapasānena pārvati) — over this austerity, O Pārvatīover this austerity, O Pārvatī·रुद्रो न दृश्यते बाले (rudro na dṛśyate bāle) — Rudra is not appearing, O girlRudra is not appearing, O girl·विरक्तो नात्र संशयः (virakto nātra saṃśayaḥ) — he is detached — of this there is no doubthe is detached — of this there is no doubt

त्वं तन्वी सुकुमाराङ्गी (tvaṃ tanvī sukumārāṅgī) — you, slender one, of delicate limbsyou, slender one, of delicate limbs·तपसा च विमोहिता (tapasā ca vimohitā) — will be overcome by this austeritywill be overcome by this austerity·भविष्यसि न संदेहः (bhaviṣyasi na saṃdehaḥ) — you will become so — there is no doubtyou will become so — there is no doubt·सत्यं सत्यं वदामि ते (satyaṃ satyaṃ vadāmi te) — I tell you this most trulyI tell you this most truly

तस्मादुत्तिष्ठ चैहि त्वं (tasmāduttiṣṭha caihi tvaṃ) — therefore rise up and cometherefore rise up and come·स्वगृहं वरवर्णिनि (svagṛhaṃ varavarṇini) — home, O fair onehome, O fair one·किं तेन तव रुद्रेण (kiṃ tena tava rudreṇa) — what is that Rudra to youwhat is that Rudra to you·येन दग्धः पुरा स्मरः (yena dagdhaḥ purā smaraḥ) — by whom Smara was once burnedby whom Smara was once burned

अतो हि निर्विकारत्वात् (ato hi nirvikāratvāt) — for this reason, being beyond all changefor this reason, being beyond all change·त्वामादातुं वरां हरः (tvāmādātuṃ varāṃ haraḥ) — Hara, to take you as his excellent brideHara, to take you as his excellent bride·नागमिष्यति देवेशि (nāgamiṣyati deveśi) — will not come, O queen of the godswill not come, O queen of the gods·तं कथं प्रार्थयिष्यसि (taṃ kathaṃ prārthayiṣyasi) — how then will you entreat him?how then will you entreat him?

गगनस्थो यथा चंद्रो (gaganastho yathā caṃdro) — just as the moon set in the skyjust as the moon set in the sky·ग्रहीतुं न हि शक्यते (grahītuṃ na hi śakyate) — cannot possibly be seizedcannot possibly be seized·तथैव दुर्गमं शंभुं (tathaiva durgamaṃ śaṃbhuṃ) — so too is Śambhu unattainableso too is Śambhu unattainable·जानीहि त्वमिहानघे (jānīhi tvamihānaghe) — know this, O sinless oneknow this, O sinless one

तथैव मेनया चोक्ता (tathaiva menayā coktā) — and thus was she spoken to by Menāand thus was she spoken to by Menā·तथा सह्याद्रिणा सती (tathā sahyādriṇā satī) — and by Sahyādri, the virtuous oneand by Sahyādri, the virtuous one·मेरुणा मंदरेणैव (meruṇā maṃdareṇaiva) — by Meru, and by Mandara tooby Meru, and by Mandara too·मैनाकेन तथैव सा (mainākena tathaiva sā) — and likewise by Mainakaand likewise by Mainaka

एवमन्यैः क्षितिधरैश्च (evamanyaiḥ kṣitidharaiśca) — and thus by other mountains tooand thus by other mountains too·क्रौंचादिभिरनातुरा (krauṃcādibhiranāturā) — beginning with Krauñca — she, undismayedbeginning with Krauñca — she, undismayed·तथैव गिरिजा प्रोक्ता (tathaiva girijā proktā) — even so was Girijā addressedeven so was Girijā addressed·नानावादविधायिभिः (nānāvādavidhāyibhiḥ) — by those raising various argumentsby those raising various arguments

एवं प्रोक्ता यदा तन्वी (evaṃ proktā yadā tanvī) — when the slender one had thus been addressedwhen the slender one had thus been addressed·सा सर्वैः तपसि स्थिता (sā sarvaiḥ tapasi sthitā) — she, steadfast in austerity, by all of themshe, steadfast in austerity, by all of them·उवाच प्रहसंत्येव (uvāca prahasaṃtyeva) — spoke, smilingspoke, smiling·हिमवंतं शुचिस्मिता (himavaṃtaṃ śucismitā) — to Himavat, she of the pure smileto Himavat, she of the pure smile

पुरा प्रोक्तं मया तात (purā proktaṃ mayā tāta) — what I said before, O fatherwhat I said before, O father·मातः किं विस्मृतं त्वया (mātaḥ kiṃ vismṛtaṃ tvayā) — O mother, has it been forgotten by you?O mother, has it been forgotten by you?·अधुनापि प्रतिज्ञां च (adhunāpi pratijñāṃ ca) — now too, my vownow too, my vow·शृणुध्वं मम बांधवाः (śṛṇudhvaṃ mama bāṃdhavāḥ) — hear it, O my kinsfolkhear it, O my kinsfolk

विरक्तोऽसौ महादेवो (virakto'sau mahādevo) — that Mahādeva is detachedthat Mahādeva is detached·येन दग्धो रुषा स्मरः (yena dagdho ruṣā smaraḥ) — by whom Smara was burned in angerby whom Smara was burned in anger·तं तोषयामि तपसा (taṃ toṣayāmi tapasā) — him I shall please through austerityhim I shall please through austerity·शंकरं भक्तवत्सलम् (śaṃkaraṃ bhaktavatsalam) — Śaṅkara, who is fond of his devoteesŚaṅkara, who is fond of his devotees

सर्वे भवन्तो गच्छन्तु (sarve bhavanto gacchantu) — let all of you golet all of you go·स्वं स्वं धाम प्रहर्षिताः (svaṃ svaṃ dhāma praharṣitāḥ) — rejoicing, each to your own aboderejoicing, each to your own abode·भविष्यत्येव तुष्टोऽसौ (bhaviṣyatyeva tuṣṭo'sau) — he will surely become pleasedhe will surely become pleased·नात्र कार्या विचारणा (nātra kāryā vicāraṇā) — no doubt need be entertained about thisno doubt need be entertained about this

दग्धो हि मदनो येन (dagdho hi madano yena) — by whom Madana was burnedby whom Madana was burned·येन दग्धं गिरेर्वनम् (yena dagdhaṃ girervanam) — by whom the forest of the mountain was scorchedby whom the forest of the mountain was scorched·तमानयिष्ये चात्रैव (tamānayiṣye cātraiva) — him I shall bring here indeedhim I shall bring here indeed·तपसा केवलेन हि (tapasā kevalena hi) — by austerity aloneby austerity alone

तपोबलेन महता (tapobalena mahatā) — by great power of austerityby great power of austerity·सुसेव्यो हि सदाशिवः (susevyo hi sadāśivaḥ) — Sadāśiva is indeed to be well wonSadāśiva is indeed to be well won·जानीध्वं हि महाभागाः (jānīdhvaṃ hi mahābhāgāḥ) — know this, O most fortunate onesknow this, O most fortunate ones·सत्यं सत्यं वदामि वः (satyaṃ satyaṃ vadāmi vaḥ) — I tell you this most trulyI tell you this most truly

आभाष्य चैवं गिरिजा च मेनकां (ābhāṣya caivaṃ girijā ca menakāṃ) — having thus addressed Menakāhaving thus addressed Menakā·मैनाकबंधुं पितरं हिमालयम् (mainākabaṃdhuṃ pitaraṃ himālayam) — her brother Mainaka, and her father Himālayaher brother Mainaka, and her father Himālaya·तूष्णीं बभूवाशु सुभाषिणी शिवा (tūṣṇīṃ babhūvāśu subhāṣiṇī śivā) — the fair-spoken Śivā quickly fell silentthe fair-spoken Śivā quickly fell silent·समंदरं पर्वतराजबालिका (samaṃdaraṃ parvatarājabālikā) — gently — she, the daughter of the king of mountainsgently — she, the daughter of the king of mountains

जग्मुस्तथोक्ताः शिवया हि पर्वता (jagmustathoktāḥ śivayā hi parvatā) — thus addressed by Śivā, the mountains departedthus addressed by Śivā, the mountains departed·यथागतेनापि विचक्षणास्ते (yathāgatenāpi vicakṣaṇāste) — those wise ones, by the way they had comethose wise ones, by the way they had come·प्रशंसमाना गिरिजां मुहुर्मुहुः (praśaṃsamānā girijāṃ muhurmuhuḥ) — praising Girijā again and againpraising Girijā again and again·सुविस्मिता हेमनगेश्वराद्याः (suvismitā hemanageśvarādyāḥ) — greatly astonished — Himavat and the othersgreatly astonished — Himavat and the others

गतेषु तेषु सर्वेषु (gateṣu teṣu sarveṣu) — when all of them had gonewhen all of them had gone·सखीभिः परिवारिता (sakhībhiḥ parivāritā) — surrounded by her companionssurrounded by her companions·तपस्तेपे तदधिकं (tapastepe tadadhikaṃ) — she practiced austerity more intensely than beforeshe practiced austerity more intensely than before·परमार्थसुनिश्चया (paramārthasuniścayā) — firmly resolved on the highest goalfirmly resolved on the highest goal

तपसा महता तेन (tapasā mahatā tena) — by that great austerityby that great austerity·तमासीच्चराचरम् (tamāsīccarācaram) — darkness came upon all that moves and does not movedarkness came upon all that moves and does not move·त्रैलोक्यं हि मुनिश्रेष्ठ (trailokyaṃ hi muniśreṣṭha) — the three worlds indeed, O best of sagesthe three worlds indeed, O best of sages·सदेवासुरमानुषम् (sadevāsuramānuṣam) — together with the gods, demons, and mentogether with the gods, demons, and men

तदा सुरासुराः सर्वे (tadā surāsurāḥ sarve) — then all the gods and demonsthen all the gods and demons·यक्षकिन्नरचारणाः (yakṣakinnaracāraṇāḥ) — the yakṣas, kinnaras, and cāraṇasthe yakṣas, kinnaras, and cāraṇas·सिद्धाः साध्याश्च मुनयो (siddhāḥ sādhyāśca munayo) — the siddhas, sādhyas, and sagesthe siddhas, sādhyas, and sages·विद्याधरमहोरगाः (vidyādharamahoragāḥ) — the vidyādharas and the great serpentsthe vidyādharas and the great serpents

सप्रजापतयश्चैव (saprajāpatayaścaiva) — together with the prajāpatistogether with the prajāpatis·गुह्यकाश्च तथापरे (guhyakāśca tathāpare) — the guhyakas, and other beings besidesthe guhyakas, and other beings besides·कष्टात् कष्टतरं प्राप्ताः (kaṣṭāt kaṣṭataraṃ prāptāḥ) — fell into distress upon distressfell into distress upon distress·कारणं न विदुः स्म तत् (kāraṇaṃ na viduḥ sma tat) — and did not know the cause of itand did not know the cause of it

सर्वे मिलित्वा शक्राद्या (sarve militvā śakrādyā) — all of them, Indra and the rest, having gatheredall of them, Indra and the rest, having gathered·गुरुमामंत्र्य विह्वलाः (gurumāmaṃtrya vihvalāḥ) — distressed, having summoned their gurudistressed, having summoned their guru·सुमेरौ तमसर्वाङ्गा (sumerau tamasarvāṅgā) — on Sumeru, their whole bodies overcome by darknesson Sumeru, their whole bodies overcome by darkness·विधिं मां शरणं ययुः (vidhiṃ māṃ śaraṇaṃ yayuḥ) — came to me, Vidhi, for refugecame to me, Vidhi, for refuge

तत्र गत्वा प्रणम्याशु (tatra gatvā praṇamyāśu) — going there and quickly bowinggoing there and quickly bowing·विह्वला नष्टसुत्विषः (vihvalā naṣṭasutviṣaḥ) — distressed, their fine splendour lostdistressed, their fine splendour lost·ऊचुः सर्वे च संस्तूय (ūcuḥ sarve ca saṃstūya) — all of them, having praised me, spokeall of them, having praised me, spoke·ह्यैकपद्येन मां हि ते (hyaikapadyena māṃ hi te) — to me, indeed, with one voiceto me, indeed, with one voice

त्वया सृष्टमिदं सर्वं (tvayā sṛṣṭamidaṃ sarvaṃ) — by you was created this wholeby you was created this whole·जगदेतच्चराचरम् (jagadetaccarācaram) — moving and unmoving universemoving and unmoving universe·संतसमति कस्माद्धै (saṃtasamati kasmāddhai) — yet it is now afflicted — why, indeedyet it is now afflicted — why, indeed·न ज्ञातं कारणं विभो (na jñātaṃ kāraṇaṃ vibho) — the cause is not known, O Lordthe cause is not known, O Lord

तद् ब्रूहि कारणं ब्रह्मन् (tad brūhi kāraṇaṃ brahman) — tell us that cause, O Brahmātell us that cause, O Brahmā·ज्ञातुमर्हसि नः प्रभो (jñātumarhasi naḥ prabho) — you alone should make it known to us, O Lordyou alone should make it known to us, O Lord·दग्धीभूततनूदेवान् (dagdhībhūtatanūdevān) — us gods, our very bodies scorchedus gods, our very bodies scorched·त्वत्तो नान्योऽस्ति रक्षकः (tvatto nānyo'sti rakṣakaḥ) — there is no protector other than youthere is no protector other than you

इत्याकर्ण्य वचस्तेषाम् (ityākarṇya vacasteṣām) — hearing these words of theirshearing these words of theirs·अहं स्मृत्वा शिवं हृदा (ahaṃ smṛtvā śivaṃ hṛdā) — I, calling Śiva to mind in my heartI, calling Śiva to mind in my heart·विचार्य मनसा सर्वं (vicārya manasā sarvaṃ) — having reflected in my mind on all of ithaving reflected in my mind on all of it·गिरिजायास्तपःफलम् (girijāyāstapaḥphalam) — [understood it] as the fruit of Girijā's austerity[understood it] as the fruit of Girijā's austerity

दग्धं विश्वमिति ज्ञात्वा (dagdhaṃ viśvamiti jñātvā) — knowing that the universe was scorchedknowing that the universe was scorched·तैः सर्वैरिह सादरात् (taiḥ sarvairiha sādarāt) — together with all of them here, respectfullytogether with all of them here, respectfully·हरये तत्कथयितुं (haraye tatkathayituṃ) — to tell this to Harito tell this to Hari·क्षीराब्धिमगमं द्रुतम् (kṣīrābdhimagamaṃ drutam) — I went swiftly to the Ocean of MilkI went swiftly to the Ocean of Milk

तत्र गत्वा हरिं दृष्ट्वा (tatra gatvā hariṃ dṛṣṭvā) — going there and seeing Harigoing there and seeing Hari·विलसन्तं सुखासने (vilasantaṃ sukhāsane) — resplendent upon his comfortable seatresplendent upon his comfortable seat·सुप्रणम्य सुसंस्तूय (supraṇamya susaṃstūya) — having bowed and praised him wellhaving bowed and praised him well·प्रावोचं सांजलिः सुरैः (prāvocaṃ sāṃjaliḥ suraiḥ) — I spoke, hands folded, together with the godsI spoke, hands folded, together with the gods

त्राहि त्राहि महाविष्णो (trāhi trāhi mahāviṣṇo) — save us, save us, O great Viṣṇusave us, save us, O great Viṣṇu·तमान्नः शरणागतान् (tamānnaḥ śaraṇāgatān) — from the darkness, us who have taken refugefrom the darkness, us who have taken refuge·तपसोग्रेण पार्वत्यास् (tapasogreṇa pārvatyās) — caused by the fierce austerity of Pārvatīcaused by the fierce austerity of Pārvatī·तपन्त्याः परमेण हि (tapantyāḥ parameṇa hi) — who is performing the supreme austeritywho is performing the supreme austerity

इत्याकर्ण्य वचस्तेषाम् (ityākarṇya vacasteṣām) — hearing these wordshearing these words·अस्मदादिदिवौकसाम् (asmadādidivaukasām) — of us and the other celestialsof us and the other celestials·शेषासने समाविष्टः (śeṣāsane samāviṣṭaḥ) — seated upon the couch of Śeṣaseated upon the couch of Śeṣa·अस्मानुवाच रमेश्वरः (asmānuvāca rameśvaraḥ) — Rameśvara spoke to usRameśvara spoke to us

ज्ञातं सर्वं निदानं मे (jñātaṃ sarvaṃ nidānaṃ me) — the whole cause is now known to methe whole cause is now known to me·पार्वतीतपसोऽद्य वै (pārvatītapaso'dya vai) — it is Pārvatī's austerity, this very dayit is Pārvatī's austerity, this very day·युष्माभिः सहितस्त्वद्य (yuṣmābhiḥ sahitastvadya) — together with you, this daytogether with you, this day·व्रजामि परमेश्वरम् (vrajāmi parameśvaram) — I shall go to the Supreme LordI shall go to the Supreme Lord

महादेवं प्रार्थयामो (mahādevaṃ prārthayāmo) — let us entreat Mahādevalet us entreat Mahādeva·गिरिजाप्रापणाय तम् (girijāprāpaṇāya tam) — that he may accept Girijāthat he may accept Girijā·पाणिग्रहार्थमधुना (pāṇigrahārthamadhunā) — now, for the sake of taking her hand [in marriage]now, for the sake of taking her hand [in marriage]·लोकानां स्वस्तयेऽमराः (lokānāṃ svastaye'marāḥ) — for the welfare of the worlds, O immortalsfor the welfare of the worlds, O immortals

वरं दातुं शिवायै हि (varaṃ dātuṃ śivāyai hi) — to grant a boon to Śivāto grant a boon to Śivā·देवदेवः पिनाकधृक् (devadevaḥ pinākadhṛk) — the god of gods, wielder of the Pinākathe god of gods, wielder of the Pināka·यथा चेष्यति तत्रैव (yathā ceṣyati tatraiva) — in whatever way he shall wishin whatever way he shall wish·करिष्यामोऽधुना हि तत् (kariṣyāmo'dhunā hi tat) — that we shall now accordingly dothat we shall now accordingly do

तस्माद् वयं गमिष्यामो (tasmād vayaṃ gamiṣyāmo) — therefore let us gotherefore let us go·यत्र रुद्रो महाप्रभुः (yatra rudro mahāprabhuḥ) — to where the great Lord Rudrato where the great Lord Rudra·तपसोग्रेण संयुक्तो (tapasogreṇa saṃyukto) — engaged in fierce austerityengaged in fierce austerity·ऽद्यास्ते परममङ्गलः ('dyāste paramamaṅgalaḥ) — now dwells, the most auspicious onenow dwells, the most auspicious one

विष्णोस्तद्वचनं श्रुत्वा (viṣṇostadvacanaṃ śrutvā) — hearing these words of Viṣṇuhearing these words of Viṣṇu·सर्व ऊचुः सुरादयः (sarva ūcuḥ surādayaḥ) — all the gods and others spokeall the gods and others spoke·महाभीता हठात् क्रुद्धाद् (mahābhītā haṭhāt kruddhād) — greatly afraid of him, suddenly angeredgreatly afraid of him, suddenly angered·दग्धकामात् लयंकरात् (dagdhakāmāt layaṃkarāt) — who burned Kāma, who brings about dissolutionwho burned Kāma, who brings about dissolution

महाभयंकरं क्रुद्धं (mahābhayaṃkaraṃ kruddhaṃ) — the terrifying, wrathful onethe terrifying, wrathful one·कालानलसमप्रभम् (kālānalasamaprabham) — whose radiance is like the fire of dissolutionwhose radiance is like the fire of dissolution·न यास्यामो वयं सर्वे (na yāsyāmo vayaṃ sarve) — we shall not go, all of uswe shall not go, all of us·विरूपाक्षं महाप्रभुम् (virūpākṣaṃ mahāprabhum) — to the great lord Virūpākṣato the great lord Virūpākṣa

यथा दग्धः पुरा तेन (yathā dagdhaḥ purā tena) — just as, by him, was once burnedjust as, by him, was once burned·मदनो दुरतिक्रमः (madano duratikramaḥ) — the invincible Madanathe invincible Madana·तथैव क्रोधयुक्तो नः (tathaiva krodhayukto naḥ) — so too, filled with anger, usso too, filled with anger, us·स धक्ष्यति न संशयः (sa dhakṣyati na saṃśayaḥ) — he will burn — there is no doubthe will burn — there is no doubt

तदाकर्ण्य वचस्तेषां (tadākarṇya vacasteṣāṃ) — then, hearing the words of theirsthen, hearing the words of theirs·शक्रादीनां रमेश्वरः (śakrādīnāṃ rameśvaraḥ) — of Indra and the others, Rameśvaraof Indra and the others, Rameśvara·सांत्वयंस्तान्सुरान्सर्वान् (sāṃtvayaṃstānsurānsarvān) — consoling all those godsconsoling all those gods·प्रोवाच स हरिर्मुने (provāca sa harirmune) — that Hari spoke, O sagethat Hari spoke, O sage

हे सुरा मद्वचः प्रीत्या (he surā madvacaḥ prītyā) — O gods, my words, with affectionO gods, my words, with affection·शृणुतादरतोऽखिलाः (śṛṇutādarato'khilāḥ) — listen respectfully, all of youlisten respectfully, all of you·न वो धक्ष्यति स स्वामी (na vo dhakṣyati sa svāmī) — that lord will not burn youthat lord will not burn you·देवानां भयनाशनः (devānāṃ bhayanāśanaḥ) — he who is the destroyer of the gods' fearhe who is the destroyer of the gods' fear

तस्माद्भवद्भिर्गन्तव्यं (tasmādbhavadbhirgantavyaṃ) — therefore you should gotherefore you should go·मया सार्धं विचक्षणैः (mayā sārdhaṃ vicakṣaṇaiḥ) — together with me, O discerning onestogether with me, O discerning ones·शंभुं शुभकरं मत्वा (śaṃbhuṃ śubhakaraṃ matvā) — trusting Śambhu to be benevolenttrusting Śambhu to be benevolent·शरणं तस्य सुप्रभोः (śaraṇaṃ tasya suprabhoḥ) — to the refuge of that gracious lordto the refuge of that gracious lord

शिवं पुराणं पुरुषं ह्यधीशं (śivaṃ purāṇaṃ puruṣaṃ hyadhīśaṃ) — Śiva, the ancient Puruṣa, the sovereign lordŚiva, the ancient Puruṣa, the sovereign lord·वरेण्यरूपं हि परं पुराणम् (vareṇyarūpaṃ hi paraṃ purāṇam) — of most excellent form, the supreme and ancient oneof most excellent form, the supreme and ancient one·तपो जुषाणं परमात्मरूपं (tapo juṣāṇaṃ paramātmarūpaṃ) — engaged in austerity, of the form of the highest Selfengaged in austerity, of the form of the highest Self·परात्परं तं शरणं व्रजामः (parātparaṃ taṃ śaraṇaṃ vrajāmaḥ) — to him, higher than the highest, let us go for refugeto him, higher than the highest, let us go for refuge

एवमुक्तास्तदा देवा (evamuktāstadā devā) — thus addressed, then the godsthus addressed, then the gods·विष्णुना प्रभविष्णुना (viṣṇunā prabhaviṣṇunā) — by the mighty Viṣṇuby the mighty Viṣṇu·जग्मुः सर्वे तेन सह (jagmuḥ sarve tena saha) — all went together with himall went together with him·द्रष्टुकामाः पिनाकिनम् (draṣṭukāmāḥ pinākinam) — desiring to see the wielder of the Pinākadesiring to see the wielder of the Pināka

पार्वत्याः सुतपो दृष्ट्वा (pārvatyāḥ sutapo dṛṣṭvā) — seeing Pārvatī's great austerityseeing Pārvatī's great austerity·तेजसा व्याप्तास्तदा (tejasā vyāptāstadā) — then overwhelmed by her radiancethen overwhelmed by her radiance·प्रणेमुस्तां जगद्धात्रीं (praṇemustāṃ jagaddhātrīṃ) — they bowed to her, the sustainer of the worldthey bowed to her, the sustainer of the world·तेजोरूपां तपःस्थिताम् (tejorūpāṃ tapaḥsthitām) — who, the very form of radiance, stood absorbed in austeritywho, the very form of radiance, stood absorbed in austerity
