Continuing his narration to Nārada, Brahmā recalls how Viṣṇu, after taking Śiva's leave, first sent Nārada ahead to Himavān's city, where Nārada was astonished to find an artificial image of himself and the whole wondrous, thousand-pillared pavilion that Viśvakarmā had fashioned there. Bewildered, Nārada asked Himavān whether Śiva and the gods had already arrived, and Himavān explained that it was merely Viśvakarmā's illusion and urged him, after resting, to go on with Maināka and the other mountains to fetch Śiva. Nārada did so, and when Viṣṇu and the assembled gods, themselves startled at the sight of the bejewelled mountains, questioned him about what he had seen and whether Himavān intended to give his daughter, Nārada — still dazed by Tvaṣṭṛ's craft — drew Brahmā, Viṣṇu and Indra aside and explained that Viśvakarmā, mindful of an old humiliation, had fashioned lifelike images of every god, Indra included, purely in jest. A frightened Indra, fearing Tvaṣṭṛ's vengeance for his slain son, was reassured by Viṣṇu that Śiva, ever compassionate to his devotees, would see to everyone's welfare. Śiva then playfully asked Nārada himself about Himavān's intentions; Nārada assured him there was no obstacle to the marriage and no need for illusion if Himavān meant to give his daughter outright, explaining that the pavilion's magic had been contrived only out of curiosity, to bewilder the immortals. Amused, Śiva asked Viṣṇu, Brahmā, Indra and the sages to confirm plainly whether Himavān would give Pārvatī, and, persuaded by their counsel that any means to a worthy end is proper, set out — overcome by the god of love like an ordinary man — together with Viṣṇu, the other gods and the sages toward Himavān's wondrous mansion, arriving joyfully with his hosts at the gates of the mountain's city.

Having gone there, you, O sage, beheld your own self — an artificial likeness fashioned there, wearing that same air of bashfulness — and you were astonished at Viśvakarmā's work.

It was joined with a thousand pillars, wondrous and most astonishing; and seeing that altar too, you, O sage, were overcome with astonishment.
NoteThe verb printed as 'ह्ययाः' (hyayāḥ) is clearly legible in the source but is not an attested classical form; it functions here as the finite verb agreeing with 'त्वम्' ("you"), and is rendered contextually as "were overcome with astonishment" in keeping with the accompanying Hindi gloss. Kept exactly as printed rather than emended.

O Nārada, most wise one, you seem indeed astonished. Tell us at length whether or not you were well received by the lord of the snows.
NoteThe instrumental 'हिमागेन' (himāgena) is clearly printed but is an unusual, contracted epithet for Himālaya (literally something like "the snow-goer"); rendered contextually as "the lord of the snows" following the accompanying Hindi gloss ('हिमालयने'), rather than emended to a more expected form such as 'हिमाद्रिणा'.

O Brahmā, Śakra, sages, and gods, tell me truly: what use have I for illusion, if the mountain will give me his daughter?

"A goal must be achieved by some means or other" — so it is said by the learned, versed in right conduct. Therefore let all of you who seek this end, with Viṣṇu at your head, go there at once.

Thus speaking with the gods, Śambhu, the self-controlled one, was then brought under the sway of Kāma, as though he were an ordinary man brought under another's control.

Placing you, O sage, and those mountains in front, filled with wonder, they then went to the most wondrous mansion of Himādri.
