अथ प्रणम्य सर्वेशं (atha praṇamya sarveśaṃ) — then, having bowed to the lord of allthen, having bowed to the lord of all·गतस्त्वं नारदाग्रतः (gatastvaṃ nāradāgrataḥ) — you, O Nārada, went on aheadyou, O Nārada, went on ahead·हरिणा नोदितः प्रीत्या (hariṇā noditaḥ prītyā) — urged on with affection by Hariurged on with affection by Hari·हिमाचलगृहं प्रति (himācalagṛhaṃ prati) — toward the house of Himācalatoward the house of Himācala

त्वं मुनेऽपश्य आत्मानं (tvaṃ mune'paśya ātmānaṃ) — you, O sage, beheld yourselfyou, O sage, beheld yourself·गत्वा तद्व्रीडयान्वितम् (gatvā tadvrīḍayānvitam) — having gone there, possessed of that same bashfulnesshaving gone there, possessed of that same bashfulness·कृत्रिमं रचितं तत्र (kṛtrimaṃ racitaṃ tatra) — an artificial image fashioned therean artificial image fashioned there·विस्मितो विश्वकर्मणा (vismito viśvakarmaṇā) — astonished at [the work of] Viśvakarmāastonished at [the work of] Viśvakarmā

श्रान्तस्त्वमात्मना तेन (śrāntastvamātmanā tena) — you, inwardly, were wearied by thatyou, inwardly, were wearied by that·कृत्रिमेण महामुने (kṛtrimeṇa mahāmune) — artificial likeness, O great sageartificial likeness, O great sage·अवलोकपरः सोऽभूत् (avalokaparaḥ so'bhūt) — you became absorbed in gazingyou became absorbed in gazing·चरितं विश्वकर्मणः (caritaṃ viśvakarmaṇaḥ) — at the handiwork of Viśvakarmāat the handiwork of Viśvakarmā

प्रविष्टो मण्डपं तस्य (praviṣṭo maṇḍapaṃ tasya) — you entered the pavilion of thatyou entered the pavilion of that·हिमाद्रे रत्नचित्रितम् (himādre ratnacitritam) — lord of mountains, adorned with gemslord of mountains, adorned with gems·सुवर्णकलशैर्जुष्टं (suvarṇakalaśairjuṣṭaṃ) — furnished with golden pitchersfurnished with golden pitchers·रम्भादिबहुशोभितम् (rambhādibahuśobhitam) — made beautiful with plantains and much elsemade beautiful with plantains and much else

सहस्रस्तम्भसंयुक्तं (sahasrastambhasaṃyuktaṃ) — joined with a thousand pillarsjoined with a thousand pillars·विचित्रं परमाद्भुतम् (vicitraṃ paramādbhutam) — wondrous, most astonishingwondrous, most astonishing·वेदिकां च तथा दृष्ट्वा (vedikāṃ ca tathā dṛṣṭvā) — and likewise seeing the altarand likewise seeing the altar·विस्मयं त्वं मुने ह्ययाः (vismayaṃ tvaṃ mune hyayāḥ) — you, O sage, were overcome with astonishmentyou, O sage, were overcome with astonishment

तदावोचश्च स मुने (tadāvocaśca sa mune) — then, O sage, thus you saidthen, O sage, thus you said·नारद त्वं नगेश्वरम् (nārada tvaṃ nageśvaram) — O Nārada, to the lord of the mountainsO Nārada, to the lord of the mountains·विस्मितोऽतीव मनसि (vismito'tīva manasi) — exceedingly astonished in mindexceedingly astonished in mind·नष्टज्ञानो विमूढधीः (naṣṭajñāno vimūḍhadhīḥ) — your knowledge lost, your understanding bewilderedyour knowledge lost, your understanding bewildered

आगतास्ते किमधुना (āgatāste kimadhunā) — have they now comehave they now come·देवा विष्णुपुरोगमाः (devā viṣṇupurogamāḥ) — the gods, headed by Viṣṇuthe gods, headed by Viṣṇu·तथा महर्षयः सर्वे (tathā maharṣayaḥ sarve) — and likewise all the great sagesand likewise all the great sages·सिद्धा उपसुरास्तथा (siddhā upasurāstathā) — the Siddhas, and the demigods toothe Siddhas, and the demigods too

महादेवो वृषारूढो (mahādevo vṛṣārūḍho) — Mahādeva, mounted on the bullMahādeva, mounted on the bull·गणैश्च परिवारितः (gaṇaiśca parivāritaḥ) — and surrounded by his hostsand surrounded by his hosts·आगतः किं विवाहार्थं (āgataḥ kiṃ vivāhārthaṃ) — has he come for the sake of the weddinghas he come for the sake of the wedding·वद तथ्यं नगेश्वर (vada tathyaṃ nageśvara) — tell me truly, O lord of the mountainstell me truly, O lord of the mountains

इत्येवं वचनं श्रुत्वा (ityevaṃ vacanaṃ śrutvā) — having heard this speechhaving heard this speech·तव विस्मितचेतसः (tava vismitacetasaḥ) — of yours, whose mind was astonishedof yours, whose mind was astonished·उवाच त्वां मुने तथ्यं (uvāca tvāṃ mune tathyaṃ) — he spoke to you, O sage, a truehe spoke to you, O sage, a true·वाक्यं स हिमवान् गिरिः (vākyaṃ sa himavān giriḥ) — word — that mountain, Himavānword — that mountain, Himavān

हे नारद महाप्राज्ञ (he nārada mahāprājña) — O Nārada, O most wise oneO Nārada, O most wise one·आगतो नैवाधुना शिवः (āgato naivādhunā śivaḥ) — Śiva has not yet now comeŚiva has not yet now come·विवाहार्थं च पार्वत्याः (vivāhārthaṃ ca pārvatyāḥ) — for the sake of the marriage of Pārvatīfor the sake of the marriage of Pārvatī·सगणः सवरातकः (sagaṇaḥ savarātakaḥ) — with his hosts, with his wedding partywith his hosts, with his wedding party

विश्वकर्मकृतं चित्रं (viśvakarmakṛtaṃ citraṃ) — a wonder wrought by Viśvakarmāa wonder wrought by Viśvakarmā·विद्धि नारद सद्धिया (viddhi nārada saddhiyā) — know it, O Nārada, with a sound mindknow it, O Nārada, with a sound mind·विस्मयं त्यज देवर्षे (vismayaṃ tyaja devarṣe) — give up your astonishment, O sage among godsgive up your astonishment, O sage among gods·स्वस्थो भव शिवं स्मर (svastho bhava śivaṃ smara) — be composed, and remember Śivabe composed, and remember Śiva

भुक्त्वा विश्रम्य सुप्रीतः (bhuktvā viśramya suprītaḥ) — having eaten and rested, well pleasedhaving eaten and rested, well pleased·कृपां कृत्वा ममोपरि (kṛpāṃ kṛtvā mamopari) — showing your grace upon meshowing your grace upon me·मैनाकादिधरैः सार्धं (mainākādidharaiḥ sārdhaṃ) — together with Maināka and the other mountainstogether with Maināka and the other mountains·गच्छ त्वं शंकरान्तिकम् (gaccha tvaṃ śaṃkarāntikam) — go to the presence of Śaṅkarago to the presence of Śaṅkara

एभिस्समेतो गिरिभिर्महामते (ebhissameto giribhirmahāmate) — joined with these mountains, O great-minded onejoined with these mountains, O great-minded one·संप्रार्थ्य शीघ्रं शिवमत्र चानय (saṃprārthya śīghraṃ śivamatra cānaya) — having entreated him, swiftly bring Śiva herehaving entreated him, swiftly bring Śiva here·देवैः समेतं च महर्षिसंघैः (devaiḥ sametaṃ ca maharṣisaṃghaiḥ) — together with the gods and hosts of great sagestogether with the gods and hosts of great sages·सुरासुरैरर्चितपादपल्लवम् (surāsurairarcitapādapallavam) — [him] whose lotus-feet are worshipped by gods and demons[him] whose lotus-feet are worshipped by gods and demons

तथेति चोक्त्वागम आशु हि त्वं (tatheti coktvāgama āśu hi tvaṃ) — saying "so be it," you quickly set outsaying "so be it," you quickly set out·तदैव तैः शैलसुतादिभिश्च (tadaiva taiḥ śailasutādibhiśca) — at once, with those sons of the mountain and the restat once, with those sons of the mountain and the rest·तत्रत्यकृत्यं सुविधाय भुक्त्वा (tatratyakṛtyaṃ suvidhāya bhuktvā) — having duly performed the tasks there and eatenhaving duly performed the tasks there and eaten·महामनास्त्वं शिवसन्निधानम् (mahāmanāstvaṃ śivasannidhānam) — you, of noble mind, [went] into Śiva's presenceyou, of noble mind, [went] into Śiva's presence

तत्र दृष्टो महादेवो (tatra dṛṣṭo mahādevo) — there Mahādeva was seenthere Mahādeva was seen·देवादिपरिवारितः (devādiparivāritaḥ) — surrounded by the gods and otherssurrounded by the gods and others·नमस्कृतस्त्वया दीप्तः (namaskṛtastvayā dīptaḥ) — radiant, saluted by youradiant, saluted by you·शैलैस्तैर्भक्तितश्च वै (śailaistairbhaktitaśca vai) — and by those mountains, with devotionand by those mountains, with devotion

तदा मया विष्णुना च (tadā mayā viṣṇunā ca) — then by me, and by Viṣṇuthen by me, and by Viṣṇu·सर्वे देवाः सवासवाः (sarve devāḥ savāsavāḥ) — all the gods, together with Vāsavaall the gods, together with Vāsava·पप्रच्छुस्त्वां मुने सर्वे (papracchustvāṃ mune sarve) — you were questioned, O sage, by allyou were questioned, O sage, by all·रुद्रस्यानुचरास्तथा (rudrasyānucarāstathā) — and Rudra's attendants as welland Rudra's attendants as well

विस्मिताः पर्वतान्दृष्ट्वा (vismitāḥ parvatāndṛṣṭvā) — astonished, having seen the mountainsastonished, having seen the mountains·सन्देहाकुलमानसाः (sandehākulamānasāḥ) — our minds troubled with doubtour minds troubled with doubt·मैनाकसह्यमेर्वाद्यान् (mainākasahyamervādyān) — Maināka, Sahya, Meru, and the restMaināka, Sahya, Meru, and the rest·नानालंकारसंयुतान् (nānālaṃkārasaṃyutān) — joined with manifold ornamentsjoined with manifold ornaments

हे नारद महाप्राज्ञ (he nārada mahāprājña) — O Nārada, most wise oneO Nārada, most wise one·विस्मितस्त्वं हि दृश्यसे (vismitastvaṃ hi dṛśyase) — you indeed appear astonishedyou indeed appear astonished·सत्कृतोऽसि हिमागेन (satkṛto'si himāgena) — were you well received by the lord of the snowswere you well received by the lord of the snows·किं न वा वद विस्तरात् (kiṃ na vā vada vistarāt) — or not — tell us at lengthor not — tell us at length

एते कस्मात्समायाताः (ete kasmātsamāyātāḥ) — why have these come herewhy have these come here·पर्वता इह सत्तमाः (parvatā iha sattamāḥ) — these most excellent mountainsthese most excellent mountains·मैनाकसह्यमेर्वाद्याः (mainākasahyamervādyāḥ) — Maināka, Sahya, Meru, and the restMaināka, Sahya, Meru, and the rest·सुप्रतापाः स्वलंकृताः (supratāpāḥ svalaṃkṛtāḥ) — of great might, richly adornedof great might, richly adorned

कन्यां दास्यति शैलोऽसौ (kanyāṃ dāsyati śailo'sau) — will that mountain give his daughterwill that mountain give his daughter·शंभवे वा न नारद (śaṃbhave vā na nārada) — to Śambhu, or not, O Nāradato Śambhu, or not, O Nārada·हिमालयगृहे तात (himālayagṛhe tāta) — in the house of Himālaya, dear onein the house of Himālaya, dear one·किं भवत्यद्य तद्वद (kiṃ bhavatyadya tadvada) — what is happening today — tell uswhat is happening today — tell us

इति सन्दिग्धमनसाम् (iti sandigdhamanasām) — thus, our minds filled with doubtthus, our minds filled with doubt·अस्माकं च दिवौकसाम् (asmākaṃ ca divaukasām) — of us, the dwellers in heavenof us, the dwellers in heaven·वद त्वं पृच्छमानानां (vada tvaṃ pṛcchamānānāṃ) — tell us who are askingtell us who are asking·सन्देहं हर सुव्रत (sandehaṃ hara suvrata) — and remove our doubt, O one of good vowsand remove our doubt, O one of good vows

इत्याकर्ण्य वचस्तेषां (ityākarṇya vacasteṣāṃ) — having heard this speech of theirshaving heard this speech of theirs·विष्ण्वादीनान्दिवौकसाम् (viṣṇvādīnāndivaukasām) — of Viṣṇu and the other godsof Viṣṇu and the other gods·अवोचस्तान्मुने त्वं हि (avocastānmune tvaṃ hi) — you, O sage, indeed spoke to themyou, O sage, indeed spoke to them·विस्मितस्त्वाष्ट्रमायया (vismitastvāṣṭramāyayā) — astonished by the illusion of Tvaṣṭṛastonished by the illusion of Tvaṣṭṛ

एकान्तमाश्रित्य च मां हि विष्णुम् (ekāntamāśritya ca māṃ hi viṣṇum) — having drawn aside privately, me and Viṣṇuhaving drawn aside privately, me and Viṣṇu·अभाषथा वाक्यमिदं मुने त्वम् (abhāṣathā vākyamidaṃ mune tvam) — you, O sage, spoke this wordyou, O sage, spoke this word·शचीपतिं सर्वसुरेश्वरं वै (śacīpatiṃ sarvasureśvaraṃ vai) — and Śacī's lord, ruler of all the godsand Śacī's lord, ruler of all the gods·पक्षच्छिदं पूर्वरिपुं धराणाम् (pakṣacchidaṃ pūrvaripuṃ dharāṇām) — the cutter of the mountains' wings, their ancient foethe cutter of the mountains' wings, their ancient foe

त्वष्ट्रा कृतं तद्विकृतं विचित्रं (tvaṣṭrā kṛtaṃ tadvikṛtaṃ vicitraṃ) — this wondrous, transformed work was made by Tvaṣṭṛthis wondrous, transformed work was made by Tvaṣṭṛ·विमोहनं सर्वदिवौकसां हि (vimohanaṃ sarvadivaukasāṃ hi) — a bewilderment indeed for all the dwellers of heavena bewilderment indeed for all the dwellers of heaven·येनैव सर्वान्स विमोहितुं सुरान् (yenaiva sarvānsa vimohituṃ surān) — by which he wishes to bewilder all the godsby which he wishes to bewilder all the gods·समिच्छति प्रेमत एव युक्त्या (samicchati premata eva yuktyā) — he desires this, out of mere affection, by clevernesshe desires this, out of mere affection, by cleverness

पुरा कृतं तस्य विमोहनं त्वया (purā kṛtaṃ tasya vimohanaṃ tvayā) — formerly his bewilderment was wrought by youformerly his bewilderment was wrought by you·सुविस्मृतं तत् सकलं शचीपते (suvismṛtaṃ tat sakalaṃ śacīpate) — all that is quite forgotten, O lord of Śacīall that is quite forgotten, O lord of Śacī·तस्मादसौ त्वां विजिगीषुरेव (tasmādasau tvāṃ vijigīṣureva) — therefore he, wishing indeed to conquer youtherefore he, wishing indeed to conquer you·गृहे ध्रुवं तस्य गिरेर्महात्मनः (gṛhe dhruvaṃ tasya girermahātmanaḥ) — surely [waits] in the house of that great-souled mountainsurely [waits] in the house of that great-souled mountain

अहं विमोहितस्तेन (ahaṃ vimohitastena) — I was bewildered by himI was bewildered by him·प्रतिरूपेण भास्वता (pratirūpeṇa bhāsvatā) — through a radiant likenessthrough a radiant likeness·तथा विष्णुः कृतस्तेन (tathā viṣṇuḥ kṛtastena) — likewise a Viṣṇu was made by himlikewise a Viṣṇu was made by him·ब्रह्मा शक्रोऽपि तादृशः (brahmā śakro'pi tādṛśaḥ) — a Brahmā, and an Indra too, just the samea Brahmā, and an Indra too, just the same

किं बहूक्तेन देवेश (kiṃ bahūktena deveśa) — what need of saying more, O lord of godswhat need of saying more, O lord of gods·सर्वदेवगणाः कृताः (sarvadevagaṇāḥ kṛtāḥ) — all the hosts of gods were madeall the hosts of gods were made·कृत्रिमाश्चित्ररूपेण (kṛtrimāścitrarūpeṇa) — artificial, in wondrous formartificial, in wondrous form·न किंचिदवशेषितम् (na kiṃcidavaśeṣitam) — nothing at all was left outnothing at all was left out

विमोहनार्थं सर्वेषां (vimohanārthaṃ sarveṣāṃ) — for the bewildering of allfor the bewildering of all·देवानां च विशेषतः (devānāṃ ca viśeṣataḥ) — the gods, especiallythe gods, especially·कृता माया चित्रमयी (kṛtā māyā citramayī) — a wondrous illusion was madea wondrous illusion was made·परिहासविकारिणी (parihāsavikāriṇī) — arising from playful jestarising from playful jest

तच्छ्रुत्वा वचनं तस्य (tacchrutvā vacanaṃ tasya) — having heard his speechhaving heard his speech·देवेन्द्रो वाक्यमब्रवीत् (devendro vākyamabravīt) — Devendra spoke a wordDevendra spoke a word·विष्णुं प्रति तदा शीघ्रं (viṣṇuṃ prati tadā śīghraṃ) — to Viṣṇu then, quicklyto Viṣṇu then, quickly·भयाकुलतनुर्हरिम् (bhayākulatanurharim) — his body troubled with fear, to Harihis body troubled with fear, to Hari

देवदेव रमानाथ (devadeva ramānātha) — O god of gods, lord of RamāO god of gods, lord of Ramā·त्वष्टा मां निहनिष्यति (tvaṣṭā māṃ nihaniṣyati) — Tvaṣṭṛ will slay meTvaṣṭṛ will slay me·पुत्रशोकेन तप्तोऽसौ (putraśokena tapto'sau) — he, consumed by grief for his sonhe, consumed by grief for his son·व्याजेनानेन नान्यथा (vyājenānena nānyathā) — by this very pretext, and by no otherby this very pretext, and by no other

निवातकवचैः पूर्वं (nivātakavacaiḥ pūrvaṃ) — formerly, by the Nivātakavacasformerly, by the Nivātakavacas·मोहितोऽसि शचीपते (mohito'si śacīpate) — you were bewildered, O lord of Śacīyou were bewildered, O lord of Śacī·महाविद्याबलेनैव (mahāvidyābalenaiva) — by the very power of great sorceryby the very power of great sorcery·दानवैः पूर्ववैरिभिः (dānavaiḥ pūrvavairibhiḥ) — by those demons, your former foesby those demons, your former foes

पर्वतो हिमवानेष (parvato himavāneṣa) — this mountain, Himavānthis mountain, Himavān·तथान्येऽखिलपर्वताः (tathānye'khilaparvatāḥ) — and likewise all the other mountainsand likewise all the other mountains·विपक्षा हि कृताः सर्वे (vipakṣā hi kṛtāḥ sarve) — were all indeed made adversarieswere all indeed made adversaries·मम वाक्याच्च वासव (mama vākyācca vāsava) — at my word, O Vāsavaat my word, O Vāsava

तेऽनुस्मृत्या तु वै दृष्ट्वा (te'nusmṛtyā tu vai dṛṣṭvā) — recalling that, and now seeingrecalling that, and now seeing·मायया गिरयो ह्यमी (māyayā girayo hyamī) — this illusion, these mountains indeedthis illusion, these mountains indeed·जेतुमिच्छन्ति ये मूढा (jetumicchanti ye mūḍhā) — wish to conquer you, foolish as they arewish to conquer you, foolish as they are·न भेतव्यमरावपि (na bhetavyamarāvapi) — you need not fear them, even as foesyou need not fear them, even as foes

ईश्वरो नो हि सर्वेषां (īśvaro no hi sarveṣāṃ) — he is indeed the lord of us allhe is indeed the lord of us all·शंकरो भक्तवत्सलः (śaṃkaro bhaktavatsalaḥ) — Śaṅkara, who loves his devoteesŚaṅkara, who loves his devotees·सर्वथा कुशलं शक्र (sarvathā kuśalaṃ śakra) — in every way our welfare, O Śakrain every way our welfare, O Śakra·करिष्यति न संशयः (kariṣyati na saṃśayaḥ) — he will bring about — there is no doubthe will bring about — there is no doubt

एवं संवदमानं तं (evaṃ saṃvadamānaṃ taṃ) — while thus speaking to thatwhile thus speaking to that·शक्रं विकृतमानसम् (śakraṃ vikṛtamānasam) — Śakra, whose mind was troubledŚakra, whose mind was troubled·हरिणोक्तश्च गिरिशो (hariṇoktaśca giriśo) — and Giriśa, addressed by Hariand Giriśa, addressed by Hari·लौकिकीं गतिमाश्रितः (laukikīṃ gatimāśritaḥ) — took recourse to worldly behaviourtook recourse to worldly behaviour

हे हरे हे सुरेशान (he hare he sureśāna) — "O Hari, O lords of the gods"O Hari, O lords of the gods·किं ब्रूथोऽद्य परस्परम् (kiṃ brūtho'dya parasparam) — what are you saying to each other today?"what are you saying to each other today?"·इत्युक्त्वा तौ महेशानो (ityuktvā tau maheśāno) — having said this to those two, the great lordhaving said this to those two, the great lord·मुने त्वां प्रत्युवाच सः (mune tvāṃ pratyuvāca saḥ) — he, O sage, then spoke again to youhe, O sage, then spoke again to you

किं नु वक्ति महाशैलो (kiṃ nu vakti mahāśailo) — what indeed does the great mountain saywhat indeed does the great mountain say·यथार्थं वद नारद (yathārthaṃ vada nārada) — tell it truly, O Nāradatell it truly, O Nārada·वृत्तान्तं सकलं ब्रूहि (vṛttāntaṃ sakalaṃ brūhi) — relate the whole accountrelate the whole account·न गोप्यं कर्तुमर्हसि (na gopyaṃ kartumarhasi) — you ought not to keep it hiddenyou ought not to keep it hidden

ददाति वा नैव ददाति शैलः (dadāti vā naiva dadāti śailaḥ) — whether the mountain gives, or does not givewhether the mountain gives, or does not give·सुतां स्वकीयां वद तच्च शीघ्रम् (sutāṃ svakīyāṃ vada tacca śīghram) — his own daughter — tell me that quicklyhis own daughter — tell me that quickly·किं ते दृष्टं किं कृतं तत्र गत्वा (kiṃ te dṛṣṭaṃ kiṃ kṛtaṃ tatra gatvā) — what did you see, what did you do, having gone therewhat did you see, what did you do, having gone there·प्रीत्या सर्वं तद्वदाश्वद्य तात (prītyā sarvaṃ tadvadāśvadya tāta) — tell me all of it now, lovingly, dear onetell me all of it now, lovingly, dear one

इत्युक्तः शम्भुना तत्र (ityuktaḥ śambhunā tatra) — thus addressed there by Śambhuthus addressed there by Śambhu·मुने त्वं देवदर्शनः (mune tvaṃ devadarśanaḥ) — you, O sage of divine sightyou, O sage of divine sight·सर्वं रहस्यवोचो वै (sarvaṃ rahasyavoco vai) — told it all in secrettold it all in secret·यद् दृष्टं तत्र मण्डपे (yad dṛṣṭaṃ tatra maṇḍape) — whatever had been seen there in the pavilionwhatever had been seen there in the pavilion

अवश्यमेव शैलेशः (avaśyameva śaileśaḥ) — the lord of the mountains will surelythe lord of the mountains will surely·तुभ्यं दास्यति कन्यकाम् (tubhyaṃ dāsyati kanyakām) — give his daughter to yougive his daughter to you·त्वामानयितुमायाता (tvāmānayitumāyātā) — have come in order to bring youhave come in order to bring you·इमे शैला न संशयः (ime śailā na saṃśayaḥ) — these mountains — there is no doubtthese mountains — there is no doubt

किन्तु ह्यमरमोहार्थं (kintu hyamaramohārthaṃ) — but indeed, for the bewildering of the immortalsbut indeed, for the bewildering of the immortals·माया विरचिताद्भुता (māyā viracitādbhutā) — a wondrous illusion has been contriveda wondrous illusion has been contrived·कुतूहलार्थं सर्वज्ञ (kutūhalārthaṃ sarvajña) — out of mere curiosity, O all-knowing oneout of mere curiosity, O all-knowing one·न कश्चिद्विघ्नसम्भवः (na kaścidvighnasambhavaḥ) — there is no possibility of any obstaclethere is no possibility of any obstacle

विचित्रं मण्डपं गेहे (vicitraṃ maṇḍapaṃ gehe) — a wondrous pavilion in the housea wondrous pavilion in the house·अकार्षीत्तस्य तदाज्ञया (akārṣīttasya tadājñayā) — was made at his commandwas made at his command·विश्वकर्मा महामायी (viśvakarmā mahāmāyī) — by Viśvakarmā, master of great illusionby Viśvakarmā, master of great illusion·नानाश्चर्यमयं विभो (nānāścaryamayaṃ vibho) — full of manifold marvels, O all-pervading lordfull of manifold marvels, O all-pervading lord

सर्वदेवसमाजश्च (sarvadevasamājaśca) — and a whole assembly of the godsand a whole assembly of the gods·कृतस्तत्र विमोहनः (kṛtastatra vimohanaḥ) — was made there, bewildering [to see]was made there, bewildering [to see]·तं दृष्ट्वा विस्मयं प्राप्तोऽहं (taṃ dṛṣṭvā vismayaṃ prāpto'haṃ) — seeing it, I was struck with wonderseeing it, I was struck with wonder·तन्मायाविमोहितः (tanmāyāvimohitaḥ) — bewildered by that very illusionbewildered by that very illusion

तच्छ्रुत्वा तद्वचस्तात (tacchrutvā tadvacastāta) — hearing that word of his, dear onehearing that word of his, dear one·लोकाचारकरः प्रभुः (lokācārakaraḥ prabhuḥ) — the lord who follows the ways of the worldthe lord who follows the ways of the world·हर्यादीन्प्रहसन् (haryādīnprahasan) — smiling at Hari and the restsmiling at Hari and the rest·शम्भुरुवाच सकलान्सुरान् (śambhuruvāca sakalānsurān) — Śambhu spoke to all the godsŚambhu spoke to all the gods

कन्यां दास्यति चेन्मह्यं (kanyāṃ dāsyati cenmahyaṃ) — if he will give me his daughterif he will give me his daughter·पर्वतो हि हिमाचलः (parvato hi himācalaḥ) — the mountain Himācala indeedthe mountain Himācala indeed·मायया मम किं कार्यं (māyayā mama kiṃ kāryaṃ) — what use have I for illusionwhat use have I for illusion·वद विष्णो यथातथम् (vada viṣṇo yathātatham) — tell me truly, O Viṣṇutell me truly, O Viṣṇu

हे ब्रह्मन् शक्र मुनयः (he brahman śakra munayaḥ) — O Brahmā, Śakra, sagesO Brahmā, Śakra, sages·सुरा ब्रूत यथार्थतः (surā brūta yathārthataḥ) — and gods, tell me trulyand gods, tell me truly·मायया मम किं कार्यं (māyayā mama kiṃ kāryaṃ) — what use have I for illusionwhat use have I for illusion·कन्यां दास्यति चेद्गिरिः (kanyāṃ dāsyati cedgiriḥ) — if the mountain will give his daughterif the mountain will give his daughter

केनाप्युपायेन फलं हि साध्य- (kenāpyupāyena phalaṃ hi sādhya) — a goal must be achieved by some meansa goal must be achieved by some means·मित्युच्यते पण्डितैर्न्यायविद्भिः (mityucyate paṇḍitairnyāyavidbhiḥ) — so say the learned, versed in right conductso say the learned, versed in right conduct·तस्मात्सर्वैर्गम्यतां शीघ्रमेव (tasmātsarvairgamyatāṃ śīghrameva) — therefore let all go there at oncetherefore let all go there at once·कार्यार्थिभिर्विष्णुपुरोगमैश्च (kāryārthibhirviṣṇupurogamaiśca) — seekers of the goal, with Viṣṇu at the headseekers of the goal, with Viṣṇu at the head

एवं संवदमानोऽसौ (evaṃ saṃvadamāno'sau) — thus speakingthus speaking·देवैः शम्भुरभूत्तदा (devaiḥ śambhurabhūttadā) — with the gods, Śambhu then becamewith the gods, Śambhu then became·कृतः स्मरेणेव वशी (kṛtaḥ smareṇeva vaśī) — brought — self-controlled though he was — under the sway of Kāmabrought — self-controlled though he was — under the sway of Kāma·वशं वा प्राकृतो नरः (vaśaṃ vā prākṛto naraḥ) — as if he were an ordinary man brought under controlas if he were an ordinary man brought under control

अथ शम्भ्वाज्ञया सर्वे (atha śambhvājñayā sarve) — then, at Śambhu's command, allthen, at Śambhu's command, all·विष्ण्वाद्या निर्जरास्तदा (viṣṇvādyā nirjarāstadā) — the immortals headed by Viṣṇuthe immortals headed by Viṣṇu·ऋषयश्च महात्मानो (ṛṣayaśca mahātmāno) — and the great-souled sagesand the great-souled sages·ययुर्मोहभ्रमावहम् (yayurmohabhramāvaham) — set out, toward that which brought delusion and bewildermentset out, toward that which brought delusion and bewilderment

पुरस्कृत्य मुने त्वां च (puraskṛtya mune tvāṃ ca) — placing you, O sage, in frontplacing you, O sage, in front·पर्वतांस्तान्सविस्मयाः (parvatāṃstānsavismayāḥ) — and those mountains, filled with wonderand those mountains, filled with wonder·हिमाद्रेश्च तदा जग्मुः (himādreśca tadā jagmuḥ) — they then went to that of Himādrithey then went to that of Himādri·मन्दिरं परमाद्भुतम् (mandiraṃ paramādbhutam) — the most wondrous mansionthe most wondrous mansion

अथ विष्ण्वादिसंयुक्तो (atha viṣṇvādisaṃyukto) — then, joined with Viṣṇu and the restthen, joined with Viṣṇu and the rest·मुदितैः स्वबलैर्युतः (muditaiḥ svabalairyutaḥ) — accompanied by his own joyful hostsaccompanied by his own joyful hosts·आजगामोपहैमागपुरं (ājagāmopahaimāgapuraṃ) — came near to the city of the snow-mountaincame near to the city of the snow-mountain·प्रमुदितो हरः (pramudito haraḥ) — Hara, greatly delightedHara, greatly delighted
