अथ सम्भृतसम्भारः (atha sambhṛtasambhāraḥ) — then, having gathered all provisionsthen, having gathered all provisions·सम्भाषां कर्तुमीश्वरम् (sambhāṣāṃ kartumīśvaram) — in order to greet and receive the Lordin order to greet and receive the Lord·शैलान्प्रस्थापयामास (śailānprasthāpayāmāsa) — he sent forth the mountainshe sent forth the mountains·ब्राह्मणानपि सर्वशः (brāhmaṇānapi sarvaśaḥ) — and brahmins too, in every directionand brahmins too, in every direction

स्वयं जगाम सद्भक्त्या (svayaṃ jagāma sadbhaktyā) — he himself went, with true devotionhe himself went, with true devotion·प्राणेप्सुं द्रष्टुमीश्वरम् (prāṇepsuṃ draṣṭumīśvaram) — to see the Lord who was dear as lifeto see the Lord who was dear as life·भक्त्युद्भुतमनाः शैलः (bhaktyudbhutamanāḥ śailaḥ) — the mountain-lord, his heart welling with devotionthe mountain-lord, his heart welling with devotion·प्रशंसन् स्वविधिं मुदा (praśaṃsan svavidhiṃ mudā) — joyfully praising his own good fortunejoyfully praising his own good fortune

देवसेनां तदा दृष्ट्वा (devasenāṃ tadā dṛṣṭvā) — then, seeing the army of the godsthen, seeing the army of the gods·हिमवान्विस्मयं गतः (himavānvismayaṃ gataḥ) — Himavān was struck with wonderHimavān was struck with wonder·जगाम सम्मुखस्तत्र (jagāma sammukhastatra) — he went there before themhe went there before them·धन्योऽहमिति चिन्तयन् (dhanyo'hamiti cintayan) — thinking, "I am blessed indeed"thinking, "I am blessed indeed"

देवा हि तद्बलं दृष्ट्वा (devā hi tadbalaṃ dṛṣṭvā) — and the gods, seeing that host [of Himavān]and the gods, seeing that host [of Himavān]·विस्मयं परमं गताः (vismayaṃ paramaṃ gatāḥ) — were struck with the greatest wonderwere struck with the greatest wonder·आनन्दं परमं प्रापुः (ānandaṃ paramaṃ prāpuḥ) — they attained supreme joythey attained supreme joy·देवाश्च गिरयस्तथा (devāśca girayastathā) — both the gods and likewise the mountainsboth the gods and likewise the mountains

पर्वतानां महासेना (parvatānāṃ mahāsenā) — the great army of the mountainsthe great army of the mountains·देवानां च तथा मुने (devānāṃ ca tathā mune) — and likewise that of the gods, O sageand likewise that of the gods, O sage·मिलित्वा विरराजेव (militvā virarājeva) — having merged together, shone forthhaving merged together, shone forth·पूर्वपश्चिमसागरौ (pūrvapaścimasāgarau) — like the eastern and western oceans meetinglike the eastern and western oceans meeting

परस्परं मिलित्वा ते (parasparaṃ militvā te) — those, having mingled with one anotherthose, having mingled with one another·देवाश्च पर्वतास्तथा (devāśca parvatāstathā) — the gods and likewise the mountainsthe gods and likewise the mountains·कृतकृत्यं तथात्मानं (kṛtakṛtyaṃ tathātmānaṃ) — considered themselves thus fulfilledconsidered themselves thus fulfilled·मेनिरे परया मुदा (menire parayā mudā) — with the greatest of joywith the greatest of joy

अथेश्वरं पुरो दृष्ट्वा (atheśvaraṃ puro dṛṣṭvā) — then, seeing the Lord before himthen, seeing the Lord before him·प्रणनाम हिमालयः (praṇanāma himālayaḥ) — Himālaya bowed downHimālaya bowed down·सर्वे प्रणेमुर्गिरयः (sarve praṇemurgirayaḥ) — all the mountains bowed tooall the mountains bowed too·ब्राह्मणाश्च सदाशिवम् (brāhmaṇāśca sadāśivam) — and the brahmins, to Sadāśivaand the brahmins, to Sadāśiva

वृषभस्थं (vṛṣabhasthaṃ) — seated on the bullseated on the bull·प्रसन्नास्यं नानाभरणभूषितम् (prasannāsyaṃ nānābharaṇabhūṣitam) — serene-faced, adorned with manifold ornamentsserene-faced, adorned with manifold ornaments·दिव्यावयव-लावण्य- (divyāvayava-lāvaṇya-) — by the beauty of his divine limbsby the beauty of his divine limbs·प्रकाशित-दिगन्तरम् (prakāśita-digantaram) — illumining the far horizons of every quarterillumining the far horizons of every quarter

सुसूक्ष्म-आहत-सत्पट्ट- (susūkṣma-āhata-satpaṭṭa-) — in fine, closely-woven, excellent silkin fine, closely-woven, excellent silk·वस्त्रशोभितविग्रहम् (vastraśobhitavigraham) — his form made beautiful by that garmenthis form made beautiful by that garment·सद्रत्नविलसन्मौलिं (sadratnavilasanmauliṃ) — his crown gleaming with fine gemshis crown gleaming with fine gems·विहसन्तं शुचिप्रभम् (vihasantaṃ śuciprabham) — smiling, of pure radiancesmiling, of pure radiance

भूषाभूताहियुक्ताङ्गम् (bhūṣābhūtāhiyuktāṅgam) — his limbs adorned with serpents turned to ornamentshis limbs adorned with serpents turned to ornaments·अद्भुतावयवप्रभम् (adbhutāvayavaprabham) — the radiance of his limbs a wonderthe radiance of his limbs a wonder·दिव्यद्युतिं (divyadyutiṃ) — of divine splendourof divine splendour·सुरेशैश्च सेवितं करचामरैः (sureśaiśca sevitaṃ karacāmaraiḥ) — attended by the lords of the gods, chowries in handattended by the lords of the gods, chowries in hand

वामस्थिताच्युतं (vāmasthitācyutaṃ) — Acyuta [Viṣṇu] stationed on his leftAcyuta [Viṣṇu] stationed on his left·दक्षभागस्थितविधिं प्रभुम् (dakṣabhāgasthitavidhiṃ prabhum) — the Lord, with Vidhi [Brahmā] stationed on his rightthe Lord, with Vidhi [Brahmā] stationed on his right·पृष्ठस्थितहरिं (pṛṣṭhasthitahariṃ) — Hari stationed behind himHari stationed behind him·पृष्ठपार्श्वस्थितसुरादिकम् (pṛṣṭhapārśvasthitasurādikam) — and the gods and others ranged at his back and sidesand the gods and others ranged at his back and sides

नानाविधसुराद्यैश्च (nānāvidhasurādyaiśca) — and by the gods of many kinds, and othersand by the gods of many kinds, and others·संस्तुतं लोकशंकरम् (saṃstutaṃ lokaśaṃkaram) — praised — he who brings welfare to the worldpraised — he who brings welfare to the world·स्वहेत्वात्ततनुं ब्रह्म (svahetvāttatanuṃ brahma) — the Absolute who has taken on a body by his own willthe Absolute who has taken on a body by his own will·सर्वेशं वरदायकम् (sarveśaṃ varadāyakam) — the lord of all, the bestower of boonsthe lord of all, the bestower of boons

सगुणं निर्गुणं चापि (saguṇaṃ nirguṇaṃ cāpi) — both with attributes and beyond attributesboth with attributes and beyond attributes·भक्ताधीनं कृपाकरम् (bhaktādhīnaṃ kṛpākaram) — subject to his devotees, the doer of gracesubject to his devotees, the doer of grace·प्रकृतेः पुरुषस्यापि (prakṛteḥ puruṣasyāpi) — beyond both Prakṛti and Puruṣabeyond both Prakṛti and Puruṣa·परं सच्चित्सुखात्मकम् (paraṃ saccitsukhātmakam) — supreme, of the nature of being, consciousness and blisssupreme, of the nature of being, consciousness and bliss

प्रभोर्दक्षिणभागे तु (prabhordakṣiṇabhāge tu) — and on the Lord's right sideand on the Lord's right side·ददर्श हरिमच्युतम् (dadarśa harimacyutam) — [Himālaya] saw Hari, the unfallen one[Himālaya] saw Hari, the unfallen one·विनतातनयारूढं (vinatātanayārūḍhaṃ) — mounted on the son of Vinatā [Garuḍa]mounted on the son of Vinatā [Garuḍa]·नानाभूषणभूषितम् (nānābhūṣaṇabhūṣitam) — adorned with manifold ornamentsadorned with manifold ornaments

प्रभोश्च वामभागे तु (prabhośca vāmabhāge tu) — and on the left side of the Lordand on the left side of the Lord·मुने मां सन्ददर्श ह (mune māṃ sandadarśa ha) — O sage, he indeed beheld meO sage, he indeed beheld me·चतुर्मुखं महाशोभं (caturmukhaṃ mahāśobhaṃ) — four-faced, of great splendourfour-faced, of great splendour·स्वपरीवारसंयुतम् (svaparīvārasaṃyutam) — accompanied by my own retinueaccompanied by my own retinue

एतौ सुरेश्वरौ दृष्ट्वा (etau sureśvarau dṛṣṭvā) — seeing these two lords of the godsseeing these two lords of the gods·शिवस्यातिप्रियौ सदा (śivasyātipriyau sadā) — ever most dear to Śivaever most dear to Śiva·प्रणनाम गिरीशश्च (praṇanāma girīśaśca) — Girīśa [Himālaya] bowed downGirīśa [Himālaya] bowed down·सपरीवार आदरात् (saparīvāra ādarāt) — together with his retinue, with reverencetogether with his retinue, with reverence

तथा शिवस्य पृष्ठे च (tathā śivasya pṛṣṭhe ca) — likewise, behind Śivalikewise, behind Śiva·पार्श्वयोः सुविराजितान् (pārśvayoḥ suvirājitān) — and radiantly stationed on both his sidesand radiantly stationed on both his sides·देवादीन्प्रणनामासौ (devādīnpraṇanāmāsau) — he bowed down to the gods and the resthe bowed down to the gods and the rest·दृष्ट्वा गिरिवरेश्वरः (dṛṣṭvā girivareśvaraḥ) — having beheld them, the lord of the finest mountainshaving beheld them, the lord of the finest mountains

रचिते शिखरे रम्ये (racite śikhare ramye) — on a beautiful peak, [specially] preparedon a beautiful peak, [specially] prepared·संस्थाप्य देवतादिकम् (saṃsthāpya devatādikam) — having settled the gods and the rest therehaving settled the gods and the rest there·जगाम हिमवांस्तत्र (jagāma himavāṃstatra) — Himavān went to that placeHimavān went to that place·यत्रास्ति विधिवेदिका (yatrāsti vidhivedikā) — where the ritual altar stoodwhere the ritual altar stood

कारयित्वा विशेषेण (kārayitvā viśeṣeṇa) — having had specially builthaving had specially built·चतुष्कं तोरणैर्युतम् (catuṣkaṃ toraṇairyutam) — a quadrangle furnished with festooned archesa quadrangle furnished with festooned arches·स्नानदानादिकं कृत्वा (snānadānādikaṃ kṛtvā) — and having performed bathing, gift-giving and the likeand having performed bathing, gift-giving and the like·परीक्षामकरोत्तदा (parīkṣāmakarottadā) — he then made a careful inspection [of the site]he then made a careful inspection [of the site]

ततस्ते स्वालयं जग्मुः (tataste svālayaṃ jagmuḥ) — then those sons of the mountain went to their own homethen those sons of the mountain went to their own home·शैलपुत्रास्तदाज्ञया (śailaputrāstadājñayā) — by his [Śiva's] leaveby his [Śiva's] leave·शैलराजाय संचख्युः (śailarājāya saṃcakhyuḥ) — and reported to the king of mountainsand reported to the king of mountains·ते चायान्तीति हर्षिताः (te cāyāntīti harṣitāḥ) — rejoicing, that "they are coming"rejoicing, that "they are coming"

अथ देवाः प्रार्थनान्तां (atha devāḥ prārthanāntāṃ) — then the gods, [on hearing] the closing entreatythen the gods, [on hearing] the closing entreaty·गिरेः श्रुत्वातिहर्षिताः (gireḥ śrutvātiharṣitāḥ) — of the mountain-lord, were greatly delightedof the mountain-lord, were greatly delighted·मुने विष्णवादयः सर्वे (mune viṣṇavādayaḥ sarve) — O sage, Viṣṇu and all the restO sage, Viṣṇu and all the rest·सेश्वरा मुमुदुर्भृशम् (seśvarā mumudurbhṛśam) — together with Śiva, rejoiced exceedinglytogether with Śiva, rejoiced exceedingly

कृत्वा सुवेषं सर्वेऽपि (kṛtvā suveṣaṃ sarve'pi) — having dressed themselves splendidly, all of themhaving dressed themselves splendidly, all of them·निर्जरा मुनयो गणाः (nirjarā munayo gaṇāḥ) — the immortals, the sages, and the hoststhe immortals, the sages, and the hosts·गमनं चक्रुरन्येऽपि (gamanaṃ cakruranye'pi) — and others too, set outand others too, set out·प्रभुणा गिरिराड्गृहम् (prabhuṇā girirāḍgṛham) — together with the Lord, to the house of the king of mountainstogether with the Lord, to the house of the king of mountains

तस्मिन्नवसरे मेना (tasminnavasare menā) — at that time Menāat that time Menā·द्रष्टुकामाभवच्छिवम् (draṣṭukāmābhavacchivam) — became desirous of seeing Śivabecame desirous of seeing Śiva·प्रभोराह्वाययामास (prabhorāhvāyayāmāsa) — she sent to summon [you], concerning the Lordshe sent to summon [you], concerning the Lord·मुने त्वां मुनिसत्तमम् (mune tvāṃ munisattamam) — you, O sage, best among sagesyou, O sage, best among sages

अगमस्त्वं मुने तत्र (agamastvaṃ mune tatra) — you then went there, O sageyou then went there, O sage·प्रभुणा प्रेरितस्तदा (prabhuṇā preritastadā) — impelled at that time by the Lordimpelled at that time by the Lord·मनसा शिवहृद्धेतुं (manasā śivahṛddhetuṃ) — with a mind set on the purpose in Śiva's heartwith a mind set on the purpose in Śiva's heart·पूर्णं कर्तुं तमिच्छता (pūrṇaṃ kartuṃ tamicchatā) — desiring to bring that purpose to fulfilmentdesiring to bring that purpose to fulfilment

त्वां प्रणम्य मुने मेना (tvāṃ praṇamya mune menā) — O sage, Menā, having bowed to youO sage, Menā, having bowed to you·प्राह विस्मितमानसा (prāha vismitamānasā) — spoke, her mind full of wonderspoke, her mind full of wonder·द्रष्टुकामा प्रभो रूपं (draṣṭukāmā prabho rūpaṃ) — longing to see the Lord's formlonging to see the Lord's form·शंकरस्य मदापहम् (śaṃkarasya madāpaham) — of Śaṅkara, that takes away prideof Śaṅkara, that takes away pride
