शुक की बात

The spy says: 'Lord, as you kindly asked, hear my words without anger. When your younger brother went and met Rāma, Rāma anointed him at once. Hearing that we were Rāvaṇa's spies, the monkeys bound us and gave us many troubles. They began to cut off our ears and noses, but we were let go when we swore by Rāma. You ask about Rāma's army, Lord. A hundred million mouths could not tell it. It is made of bears and monkeys of many colours, fearsome of face, huge and terrifying. The one who burnt your city and killed your son has the least strength of them all. There are countless fierce warriors with famous names, and countless with the strength of great nāgas.' The dohā names Dvivida, Mayanda, Nīla, Nala, Aṅgada, Gada, Vikaṭāsya, Dadhimukha, Keharī, Niṣatha, Śaṭha, and Jāmbavān, a heap of strength. शुक ने कहा, नाथ, आपने कृपा करके जैसा पूछा है, क्रोध छोड़कर वैसे ही मेरी बात मानिए। जब आपका छोटा भाई जाकर मिला, तभी राम ने उसे तिलक कर दिया। हम रावण के दूत हैं, यह जानकर वानरों ने हमें बाँधकर बहुत दुख दिए। वे हमारे नाक-कान काटने लगे, राम की सौगन्ध देने पर हमें छोड़ दिया। नाथ, आपने राम की सेना के बारे में पूछा; सौ करोड़ मुखों से भी उसका वर्णन नहीं हो सकता। अनेक रंगों के भालु और वानर हैं, भयानक मुख वाले, बड़े और डरावने। जिसने आपका नगर जलाया और आपके पुत्र को मारा, उसका बल उन सब वानरों में थोड़ा है। अनगिनत नाम वाले कठोर और भयंकर योद्धा हैं, और अनगिनत नागों जैसे प्रचण्ड बल वाले हैं। दोहे में नाम हैं: द्विविद, मयन्द, नील, नल, अंगद, गद, विकटास्य, दधिमुख, केसरी, निषध, शठ और बल की राशि जाम्बवान।

१1 नाथ कृपा करि पूँछेहु जैसें। मानहु कहा क्रोध तजि तैसें ॥ मिला जाइ जब अनुज तुम्हारा। जातहिं राम तिलक तेहि सारा ॥
