Chapter 79·Kaikeyī brings the bark-cloth·Verses 1–
Sītā, shy, gave no reply, and Kaikeyī rose up in anger. She brought bark clothes, ornaments and vessels, put them down before Rāma and spoke gently: You are dear to the king, and out of love and kindness he will not send you; he would lose good name and the next world, and never tell you to go. Hearing this, Rāma was glad; he accepted his mother's word. But the words struck the king like arrows, and his life would not go. The people were stunned, the king in a faint, no one knew what to do. Rāma quickly took the hermit's dress and left, bowing to his father and mother. Having arranged the forest dress and bidden farewell to all, the Lord left them all senseless.
