कूबर टूटेउ फूट कपारू
Hearing his mother's crookedness, Śatrughna burns with rage and can do nothing. At that moment the hunchback Mantharā comes there, decked in clothes and ornaments. Seeing her, Śatrughna is filled with rage, like fire given an offering of ghee. He springs, aims a kick at her hump and she falls on her face, crying out. Her hump breaks, her forehead splits, her teeth are broken and blood runs from her mouth. She cries out to fate asking what she destroyed: doing good, she got a bad fruit. Hearing it, Śatrughna looks at her from head to toe, sees her wickedness, and starts dragging her by the hair. Bharata, a treasury of mercy, gets her freed, and the two brothers go to Kausalyā. The dohā shows Kausalyā: in dirty clothes, pale, thin with the weight of sorrow, like a golden creeper struck by frost.माता की कुटिलता सुनकर शत्रुघ्न का शरीर क्रोध से जलता है, पर कुछ वश नहीं चलता। उसी समय कुबरी (मन्थरा) अनेक वस्त्र-आभूषण सजाकर वहाँ आती है। उसे देखकर लक्ष्मण का छोटा भाई शत्रुघ्न क्रोध से भर गया, जैसे घी की आहुति पाकर आग जल उठे। उसने झपटकर उसके कूबड़ पर निशाना बाँधकर लात मारी और वह मुँह के बल गिरकर चिल्लाने लगी। उसका कूबड़ टूट गया, कपाल फूट गया, दाँत टूट गए और मुँह से खून बहने लगा। वह कहती है: हाय दैव, मैंने क्या बिगाड़ा? भला करते हुए बुरा फल पाया। यह सुनकर शत्रुघ्न ने उसे सिर से पैर तक खोटी देखा और झोंटा पकड़-पकड़कर घसीटने लगे। दयानिधि भरत ने उसे छुड़ा दिया, और दोनों भाई कौसल्या के पास गए। दोहा कौसल्या को दिखाता है: मैले कपड़े, फीका रंग, शोक के भार से दुर्बल देह, जैसे सुन्दर सोने की बेल को पाला मार गया हो।

माता की कुटिलता सुनकर शत्रुघ्न का शरीर क्रोध से जल रहा था, पर कुछ वश नहीं चलता था। उसी समय कुबरी वहाँ आई, अनेक प्रकार के वस्त्र और गहनों से सजी हुई।

उसे देखकर लक्ष्मण का छोटा भाई क्रोध से भर गया, जैसे घी की आहुति पाकर आग जल उठे। उसने झपटकर कूबड़ पर निशाना बाँधकर लात मारी और वह मुँह के बल धरती पर गिरकर चिल्लाने लगी।
Seeing her, Lakṣmaṇa's younger brother was filled with rage, like a fire that has received an offering of ghee. He sprang and aimed a kick at her hump, and she fell on her face to the ground, crying out.

उसका कूबड़ टूट गया, कपाल फूट गया, दाँत टूट गए और मुँह से खून बहने लगा। 'हाय दैव, मैंने क्या बिगाड़ा? भला करते हुए मैंने बुरा फल पाया।'
Her hump broke, her forehead split, her teeth were crushed and blood ran from her mouth. 'Ah, fate, what have I destroyed? Doing good, I have got bad for it.'

Hearing this and seeing her wickedness from head to toe, Śatrughna began to drag her by the hair. Bharata, the treasury of mercy, got her freed, and the two brothers went to Kausalyā.
