The third sopāna opens with two Sanskrit ślokas. The first bows to Śaṅkara, the root of the tree of dharma, who clears away darkness and delusion. The second praises Rāma, dark as a rain cloud, with bow and arrows, walking the road with Sītā and Lakṣmaṇa. A soraṭhā then says that the qualities of Rāma are deep, and that only the wise, not the fools who turn from Hari, can reach them.

I bow to Śaṅkara. He is the root of the tree of dharma and the full moon over the ocean of wisdom, and he gives joy. He is the sun for the lotus of detachment. He drives off the thick darkness of sin and the heat of suffering, and he tears apart the clouds of delusion. He was born in heaven. I bow also to the family of Brahmins, who wipe out the stain of sin and are dear to king Rāma.

Śaṅkara is Śiva. The last words turn to the Brahmin family that Rāma honours.

I worship Rāma, who delights every eye. His body is lovely like a thick rain cloud full of joy, and he wears yellow cloth. In his hands are bow and arrows, and on his hip hangs a fine quiver. His eyes are long like lotus petals, and his head is crowned with matted hair. He walks the road with Sītā and Lakṣmaṇa.

Umā, the qualities of Rāma are deep and hard to see into. Wise sages reach them through detachment. Fools who turn away from Hari, and who have no love of dharma, reach only delusion.
