शृणु देवि प्रवक्ष्यामि (śṛṇu devi pravakṣyāmi) — listen, O Devī, I shall declareसुनो देवि, मैं कहता हूँ·यन्मां त्वं परिपृच्छसि (yanmāṃ tvaṃ paripṛcchasi) — what you ask of meजो तुम मुझसे पूछती हो·तस्य श्रवणमात्रेण (tasya śravaṇamātreṇa) — by merely hearing itउसके श्रवण मात्र से·भक्तिराशु प्रजायते (bhaktirāśu prajāyate) — devotion swiftly arisesभक्ति शीघ्र उत्पन्न होती है

वाग्भवा मूलवलये (vāgbhavā mūlavalaye) — the Vāgbhava (bīja) in the root-circleवाग्भव (बीज) मूल-वलय में·शूद्राद्याः करणीकृताः (śūdrādyāḥ karaṇīkṛtāḥ) — the Śūdras and the rest are made its instrumentsशूद्र आदि उसके साधन बनाए गए·एवं कुलार्णवे ज्ञानं (evaṃ kulārṇave jñānaṃ) — thus in the Kulārṇava the knowledgeइस प्रकार कुलार्णव में ज्ञान·पादुकायां प्रतिष्ठितम् (pādukāyāṃ pratiṣṭhitam) — is established in the pādukāपादुका में प्रतिष्ठित है

कोटिकोटिमहादानात् (koṭikoṭimahādānāt) — than crores upon crores of great giftsकरोड़ों-करोड़ महादानों से·कोटिकोटिमहाव्रतात् (koṭikoṭimahāvratāt) — than crores upon crores of great vowsकरोड़ों-करोड़ महाव्रतों से·कोटिकोटिमहायज्ञात् (koṭikoṭimahāyajñāt) — than crores upon crores of great sacrificesकरोड़ों-करोड़ महायज्ञों से·परा श्रीपादुकास्मृतिः (parā śrīpādukāsmṛtiḥ) — higher is the remembrance of the Śrī-pādukāश्रीपादुका की स्मृति पर (श्रेष्ठ) है

कोटिकोटिमन्त्रजापात् (koṭikoṭimantrajāpāt) — than crores upon crores of mantra-japaकरोड़ों-करोड़ मन्त्र-जप से·कोटितीर्थावगाहनात् (koṭitīrthāvagāhanāt) — than bathing in a crore of tīrthasकरोड़ तीर्थों के स्नान से·कोटिदेवार्चनाद्देवि (koṭidevārcanāddevi) — than the worship of a crore of gods, O Devīकरोड़ देवों के अर्चन से, हे देवि·परा श्रीपादुकास्मृतिः (parā śrīpādukāsmṛtiḥ) — higher is the remembrance of the Śrī-pādukāश्रीपादुका की स्मृति पर (श्रेष्ठ) है

महारोगे महोत्पाते (mahāroge mahotpāte) — in great disease, in great calamityमहारोग में, महा-उत्पात में·महादोषे महाभये (mahādoṣe mahābhaye) — in great fault, in great fearमहादोष में, महाभय में·महापदि महापापे (mahāpadi mahāpāpe) — in great misfortune, in great sinमहा-आपदा में, महापाप में·स्मृता रक्षति पादुका (smṛtā rakṣati pādukā) — the pādukā, remembered, protectsस्मरण की गई पादुका रक्षा करती है

दुराचारे दुरालापे (durācāre durālāpe) — in wrong conduct, in wrong speechदुराचार में, दुरालाप में·दुःसङ्गे दुष्प्रतिग्रहे (duḥsaṅge duṣpratigrahe) — in evil company, in wrongful acceptance of giftsदुःसंग में, दुष्प्रतिग्रह में·दुराचारे च दुर्बुद्धौ (durācāre ca durbuddhau) — in wrong conduct and in evil thoughtदुराचार और दुर्बुद्धि में·स्मृता रक्षति पादुका (smṛtā rakṣati pādukā) — the pādukā, remembered, protectsस्मरण की गई पादुका रक्षा करती है

तेनाधीतं स्मृतं ज्ञातम् (tenādhītaṃ smṛtaṃ jñātam) — by him has been studied, remembered, knownउसने पढ़ा, स्मरण किया, जाना·इष्टं दत्तञ्च पूजितम् (iṣṭaṃ dattañca pūjitam) — sacrificed, given and worshippedयज्ञ किया, दान दिया और पूजा की·जिह्वाग्रे वर्तते यस्य (jihvāgre vartate yasya) — on the tip of whose tongue abidesजिसकी जिह्वा के अग्र पर रहती है·सदा श्रीपादुकास्मृतिः (sadā śrīpādukāsmṛtiḥ) — always the remembrance of the Śrī-pādukāसदा श्रीपादुका की स्मृति

सकृत् श्रीपादुकां देवि (sakṛt śrīpādukāṃ devi) — once the Śrī-pādukā, O Devīएक बार श्रीपादुका को, हे देवि·यो वा जपति भक्तितः (yo vā japati bhaktitaḥ) — whoever repeats with devotionजो भक्ति से जपता है·स सर्वपापरहितः (sa sarvapāparahitaḥ) — he, freed of all sinsवह सब पापों से रहित·प्राप्नोति परमां गतिम् (prāpnoti paramāṃ gatim) — attains the supreme goalपरम गति पाता है

शुचिर्वाप्यशुचिर्वापि (śucirvāpyaśucirvāpi) — whether pure or impureशुचि हो या अशुचि·भक्त्या स्मरति पादुकाम् (bhaktyā smarati pādukām) — one remembers the pādukā with devotionभक्ति से पादुका का स्मरण करता है·अनायासेन (anāyāsena) — without effortबिना प्रयास·धर्मार्थकाममोक्षान् (dharmārthakāmamokṣān) — dharma, artha, kāma and mokṣaधर्म, अर्थ, काम, मोक्ष·लभते सः (labhate saḥ) — he obtainsवह पाता है

श्रीनाथचरणाम्भोजं (śrīnāthacaraṇāmbhojaṃ) — the lotus feet of the Śrī-nāthaश्रीनाथ के चरण-कमल·यस्यां दिशि विराजते (yasyāṃ diśi virājate) — in whichever direction shineजिस दिशा में विराजते हैं·तस्यां दिशि नमस्कुर्यात् (tasyāṃ diśi namaskuryāt) — in that direction one should bowउस दिशा में नमस्कार करे·भक्त्या प्रतिदिनं प्रिये (bhaktyā pratidinaṃ priye) — with devotion every day, O belovedभक्ति से प्रतिदिन, हे प्रिये

न पादुकापरो मन्त्रो (na pādukāparo mantro) — there is no mantra higher than the pādukāपादुका से पर कोई मन्त्र नहीं·न देवः श्रीगुरोः परः (na devaḥ śrīguroḥ paraḥ) — no god higher than the Śrī-guruश्रीगुरु से पर कोई देव नहीं·न हि शाक्तात् परा दीक्षा (na hi śāktāt parā dīkṣā) — no dīkṣā higher than the Śāktaशाक्त से परा कोई दीक्षा नहीं·न पुण्यं कुलपूजनात् (na puṇyaṃ kulapūjanāt) — no merit beyond the worship of the Kulaकुलपूजन से (बढ़कर) कोई पुण्य नहीं

ध्यानमूलं गुरोर्मूर्तिः (dhyānamūlaṃ gurormūrtiḥ) — the root of meditation is the form of the guruध्यान का मूल गुरु की मूर्ति है·पूजामूलं गुरोः पदम् (pūjāmūlaṃ guroḥ padam) — the root of worship is the foot of the guruपूजा का मूल गुरु के चरण हैं·मन्त्रमूलं गुरोर्वाक्यं (mantramūlaṃ gurorvākyaṃ) — the root of mantra is the word of the guruमन्त्र का मूल गुरु का वाक्य है·मोक्षमूलं गुरोः कृपा (mokṣamūlaṃ guroḥ kṛpā) — the root of liberation is the grace of the guruमोक्ष का मूल गुरु की कृपा है

गुरुमूलाः क्रियाः सर्वा (gurumūlāḥ kriyāḥ sarvā) — all rites have the guru as their rootसब क्रियाएँ गुरुमूल हैं·लोकेऽस्मिन् कुलनायिके (loke'smin kulanāyike) — in this world, O mistress of the Kulaइस लोक में, हे कुलनायिके·तस्मात् सेव्यो गुरुर्नित्यं (tasmāt sevyo gururnityaṃ) — therefore the guru is always to be servedइसलिए गुरु नित्य सेव्य हैं·सिद्ध्यर्थं भक्तिसंयुतैः (siddhyarthaṃ bhaktisaṃyutaiḥ) — for the sake of siddhi, by those endowed with devotionसिद्धि के लिए, भक्ति-युक्तों द्वारा

तावदार्तिर्भयं शोको (tāvadārtirbhayaṃ śoko) — so long there is affliction, fear, griefतब तक पीड़ा, भय, शोक·लोभमोहभ्रमादयः (lobhamohabhramādayaḥ) — greed, delusion, confusion and the restलोभ, मोह, भ्रम आदि·यावन्नायाति शरणं (yāvannāyāti śaraṇaṃ) — as long as one does not come for refugeजब तक शरण में नहीं आता·श्रीगुरुं भक्तवत्सलम् (śrīguruṃ bhaktavatsalam) — to the Śrī-guru, who is tender to his devoteesभक्तवत्सल श्रीगुरु की

तावद् भ्रमन्ति संसारे (tāvad bhramanti saṃsāre) — so long they wander in saṃsāraतब तक संसार में भटकते हैं·सर्वदुःखमलीमसाः (sarvaduḥkhamalīmasāḥ) — stained by every sorrowसब दुःखों से मलिन·न भवेत् सद्गुरौ भक्तिः (na bhavet sadgurau bhaktiḥ) — there is no devotion to the true guruसद्गुरु में भक्ति नहीं होती·यावद्देवेशि देहिनाम् (yāvaddeveśi dehinām) — as long as, O queen of gods, for embodied beingsजब तक, हे देवेशि, देहधारियों की

सर्वसिद्धिफलोपेतो (sarvasiddhiphalopeto) — endowed with the fruit of all siddhisसब सिद्धियों के फल से युक्त·मन्त्रः शुध्यति शोभनः (mantraḥ śudhyati śobhanaḥ) — the auspicious mantra becomes pureशोभन मन्त्र शुद्ध होता है·गुरुप्रसादमूलोऽयं (guruprasādamūlo'yaṃ) — this, whose root is the grace of the guruगुरु-प्रसाद-मूल यह·परतत्त्वमहाक्रमः (paratattvamahākramaḥ) — is the great krama of the supreme tattvaपरतत्त्व का महाक्रम है

यथा ददाति सन्तुष्टः (yathā dadāti santuṣṭaḥ) — so that, well pleased, he givesजैसे सन्तुष्ट होकर देता है·प्रसन्नो वरदो मनुम् (prasanno varado manum) — gracious, boon-giving, the mantraप्रसन्न, वरदायी, मन्त्र को·तथा भक्त्या धनैः प्राणैः (tathā bhaktyā dhanaiḥ prāṇaiḥ) — so with devotion, with wealth, with life-breathsवैसे भक्ति से, धन से, प्राणों से·गुरुं यत्नेन तोषयेत् (guruṃ yatnena toṣayet) — one should carefully gratify the guruगुरु को यत्न से सन्तुष्ट करे

यदा दद्यात् स्वशिष्याय (yadā dadyāt svaśiṣyāya) — when he gives to his own discipleजब अपने शिष्य को देता है·स्वात्मानं देशिकोत्तमः (svātmānaṃ deśikottamaḥ) — his own self, the best of teachersअपनी आत्मा, देशिकोत्तम·तदा मुक्तो भवेच्छिष्यः (tadā mukto bhavecchiṣyaḥ) — then the disciple becomes liberatedतब शिष्य मुक्त हो जाता है·ततो नास्ति पुनर्भवः (tato nāsti punarbhavaḥ) — thereafter there is no rebirthउसके बाद पुनर्जन्म नहीं

तावदाराधयेच्छिष्यः (tāvadārādhayecchiṣyaḥ) — so long should the disciple propitiateतब तक शिष्य आराधना करे·प्रसन्नोऽसौ यदा भवेत् (prasanno'sau yadā bhavet) — until he becomes graciousजब तक वे प्रसन्न न हों·गुरौ प्रसन्ने शिष्यस्य (gurau prasanne śiṣyasya) — when the guru is gracious, the disciple'sगुरु के प्रसन्न होने पर शिष्य के·सद्यः पापक्षयो भवेत् (sadyaḥ pāpakṣayo bhavet) — sins are at once destroyedपाप तत्काल क्षय होते हैं

मनसापि न काङ्क्षन्ते (manasāpi na kāṅkṣante) — do not desire even in mindमन से भी नहीं चाहते·यान् कामाननुजीविनः (yān kāmānanujīvinaḥ) — the desires which dependantsजो कामनाएँ अनुजीवी (सेवक)·सम्पादयन्ति तान् सर्वान् (sampādayanti tān sarvān) — fulfil all thoseउन सबको पूर्ण करते हैं·स्वामिनो भक्तवत्सलाः (svāmino bhaktavatsalāḥ) — masters who are tender to their devoteesभक्तवत्सल स्वामी

ब्रह्मविष्णुमहेशादि- (brahmaviṣṇumaheśādi-) — Brahmā, Viṣṇu, Maheśa and the restब्रह्मा, विष्णु, महेश आदि·देवतामुनियोगिनः (devatāmuniyoginaḥ) — gods, sages and yoginsदेवता, मुनि, योगी·कुर्वन्त्यनुग्रहं तुष्टा (kurvantyanugrahaṃ tuṣṭā) — being pleased, bestow graceतुष्ट होकर अनुग्रह करते हैं·गुरौ तुष्टे न संशयः (gurau tuṣṭe na saṃśayaḥ) — when the guru is pleased — no doubtगुरु के तुष्ट होने पर, सन्देह नहीं

भक्त्या तुष्टेन गुरुणा (bhaktyā tuṣṭena guruṇā) — by a guru pleased through devotionभक्ति से तुष्ट गुरु द्वारा·यः प्रदिष्टः कृपालुना (yaḥ pradiṣṭaḥ kṛpālunā) — he who is instructed, by the compassionate oneजो कृपालु द्वारा उपदिष्ट है·कर्ममुक्तो भवेच्छिष्यो (karmamukto bhavecchiṣyo) — the disciple becomes freed from karmaशिष्य कर्म से मुक्त हो जाता है·भुक्तिमुक्त्योः स भाजनम् (bhuktimuktyoḥ sa bhājanam) — he is a vessel of enjoyment and liberationवह भुक्ति-मुक्ति का पात्र है

शिष्येणापि तथा कार्यं (śiṣyeṇāpi tathā kāryaṃ) — the disciple too should act soशिष्य को भी वैसा करना चाहिए·यथा सन्तोषितो गुरुः (yathā santoṣito guruḥ) — that the guru is gratifiedजिससे गुरु सन्तुष्ट हों·प्रियं कुर्याच्च देवेशि (priyaṃ kuryācca deveśi) — and he should do what is dear, O queen of godsऔर प्रिय करे, हे देवेशि·मनोवाक्कायकर्मभिः (manovākkāyakarmabhiḥ) — by acts of mind, speech and bodyमन, वाणी, काया के कर्मों से

यदि तुष्टेन गुरुणा (yadi tuṣṭena guruṇā) — if by a pleased guruयदि तुष्ट गुरु द्वारा·आत्मशिष्यो यत्र कुत्रचित् (ātmaśiṣyo yatra kutracit) — his own disciple, anywhere whateverअपना शिष्य, जहाँ-कहीं भी·मुक्तोऽसीति समादिष्टः (mukto'sīti samādiṣṭaḥ) — is told "you are liberated""तू मुक्त है" ऐसा आदेश पाए·सोऽपि मुक्तिं व्रजेत् प्रिये (so'pi muktiṃ vrajet priye) — he too attains liberation, O belovedवह भी मुक्ति पाता है, हे प्रिये

अथवा निष्प्रपञ्चेन (athavā niṣprapañcena) — or else, by a non-manifoldअथवा निष्प्रपंच·धाम्ना केनचिदीश्वरः (dhāmnā kenacidīśvaraḥ) — by some (inexpressible) power, Īśvaraकिसी (अनिर्वचनीय) धाम से ईश्वर·करोति गुरुरूपेण (karoti gururūpeṇa) — effects, in the form of the guruगुरु के रूप में करते हैं·पशुपाशविमोचनम् (paśupāśavimocanam) — the release of the paśu from his bondsपशु का पाश से विमोचन

न मे प्रियश्चतुर्वेदी (na me priyaścaturvedī) — not dear to me is the knower of four Vedasमुझे चतुर्वेदी प्रिय नहीं·मद्भक्तः श्वपचोऽपि वा (madbhaktaḥ śvapaco'pi vā) — my devotee, even a dog-cooker (outcaste)मेरा भक्त, श्वपच हो तो भी·तस्मै देयं ततो ग्राह्यं (tasmai deyaṃ tato grāhyaṃ) — to him should be given, from him takenउसे देना चाहिए, उससे लेना चाहिए·स तु पूज्यो ह्यहं यथा (sa tu pūjyo hyahaṃ yathā) — he is to be worshipped just as I amवह पूज्य है, जैसे मैं

विप्रः षड्गुणयुक्तश्चेत् (vipraḥ ṣaḍguṇayuktaścet) — a brāhmaṇa, even endowed with the six qualitiesविप्र छह गुणों से युक्त हो तो भी·अभक्तो न प्रशस्यते (abhakto na praśasyate) — if without devotion, is not praisedअभक्त प्रशंसित नहीं होता·म्लेच्छोऽपि गुणहीनोऽपि (mleccho'pi guṇahīno'pi) — even a mleccha, even one devoid of qualitiesम्लेच्छ भी, गुणहीन भी·भक्तिमान् शिष्य उच्यते (bhaktimān śiṣya ucyate) — if devoted, is called a discipleभक्तिमान् शिष्य कहलाता है

गुरुभक्तिविहीनस्य (gurubhaktivihīnasya) — of one devoid of devotion to the guruगुरुभक्ति से हीन का·तपो विद्या कुलं व्रतम् (tapo vidyā kulaṃ vratam) — austerity, learning, family, vowतप, विद्या, कुल, व्रत·सर्वं नश्यति तत्रैव (sarvaṃ naśyati tatraiva) — all perishes right thereसब वहीं नष्ट हो जाता है·भूषणं लोकरञ्जनम् (bhūṣaṇaṃ lokarañjanam) — an ornament (merely) pleasing to the world(केवल) लोकरंजन का भूषण

गुरुभक्त्यग्निना (gurubhaktyagninā) — by the fire of devotion to the guruगुरुभक्ति की अग्नि से·सम्यग्दग्धदुर्मतिकल्मषः (samyagdagdhadurmatikalmaṣaḥ) — the stain of evil thought fully burntदुर्बुद्धि का मल सम्यक् जला हुआ·श्वपचोऽपि परैः पूज्यो (śvapaco'pi paraiḥ pūjyo) — even an outcaste is to be worshipped by othersश्वपच भी दूसरों से पूज्य है·विद्वानपि न नास्तिकः (vidvānapi na nāstikaḥ) — not a nāstika, even if learnedनास्तिक विद्वान् भी नहीं

धर्मार्थकामैः किन्तस्य (dharmārthakāmaiḥ kintasya) — what has he to do with dharma, artha and kāmaधर्म, अर्थ, काम से उसे क्या·मोक्ष एव करे स्थितः (mokṣa eva kare sthitaḥ) — liberation itself stands in his handमोक्ष ही हाथ में स्थित है·सर्वार्थैः श्रीगुरौ देवि (sarvārthaiḥ śrīgurau devi) — for the Śrī-guru with all his goods, O Devīसर्वस्व से श्रीगुरु में, हे देवि·यस्य भक्तिः सदा स्थिरा (yasya bhaktiḥ sadā sthirā) — whose devotion is ever steadyजिसकी भक्ति सदा स्थिर है

स शिवो गुरुरूपेण (sa śivo gururūpeṇa) — he is Śiva, in the form of the guruवह शिव गुरु-रूप से·भुक्तिमुक्तिप्रदो मम (bhuktimuktiprado mama) — giver of enjoyment and liberation to meमुझे भुक्ति-मुक्ति देने वाले हैं·इति भक्त्या स्मरेद् यस्तु (iti bhaktyā smared yastu) — whoever remembers thus with devotionऐसा जो भक्ति से स्मरण करे·तस्य सिद्धिरदूरतः (tasya siddhiradūrataḥ) — for him siddhi is not farउसकी सिद्धि दूर नहीं

यस्य देवे परा भक्तिः (yasya deve parā bhaktiḥ) — he who has supreme devotion to Godजिसकी देव में परा भक्ति है·यथा देवे तथा गुरौ (yathā deve tathā gurau) — as to God, so to the guruजैसी देव में वैसी गुरु में·तस्य ते कथिता ह्यर्थाः (tasya te kathitā hyarthāḥ) — to him these matters that have been toldउसे ये कहे गए अर्थ·प्रकाशन्ते कुलेश्वरि (prakāśante kuleśvari) — shine forth, O Lady of the Kulaप्रकाशित होते हैं, हे कुलेश्वरि

नारायणे महादेवे (nārāyaṇe mahādeve) — to Nārāyaṇa, to Mahādevaनारायण में, महादेव में·मातापित्रोश्च राजनि (mātāpitrośca rājani) — to mother and father, and to the kingमाता-पिता में और राजा में·भक्तिर्यथा महादेवि (bhaktiryathā mahādevi) — as devotion is, O great Goddessजैसी भक्ति है, हे महादेवि·तथा कार्या निजे गुरौ (tathā kāryā nije gurau) — so it is to be shown to one's own guruवैसी अपने गुरु में करनी चाहिए

लक्ष्मीनारायणौ (lakṣmīnārāyaṇau) — Lakṣmī and Nārāyaṇaलक्ष्मी-नारायण·वाणीधातारौ (vāṇīdhātārau) — Vāṇī and Dhātṛ (Sarasvatī and Brahmā)वाणी-धाता (सरस्वती-ब्रह्मा)·गिरिजाशिवौ (girijāśivau) — Girijā and Śivaगिरिजा-शिव·श्रीगुरुं गुरुपत्नीञ्च (śrīguruṃ gurupatnīñca) — the Śrī-guru and the guru's wifeश्रीगुरु और गुरुपत्नी को·पितराविति चिन्तयेत् (pitarāviti cintayet) — one should regard as one's parentsमाता-पिता समझे

गुरुभक्त्या यथा देवि (gurubhaktyā yathā devi) — as by devotion to the guru, O Devīगुरुभक्ति से जैसे, हे देवि·प्राप्यन्ते सर्वसिद्धयः (prāpyante sarvasiddhayaḥ) — all siddhis are obtainedसब सिद्धियाँ प्राप्त होती हैं·यज्ञदानतपस्तीर्थव्रताद्यैः (yajñadānatapastīrthavratādyaiḥ) — by sacrifice, gift, austerity, tīrtha, vow and the restयज्ञ, दान, तप, तीर्थ, व्रत आदि से·न तथा प्रिये (na tathā priye) — not so, O belovedवैसे नहीं, हे प्रिये

श्रीगुरौ निश्चला भक्तिः (śrīgurau niścalā bhaktiḥ) — steady devotion to the Śrī-guruश्रीगुरु में निश्चल भक्ति·वर्द्धते हि यथा यथा (varddhate hi yathā yathā) — as it grows and growsजैसे-जैसे बढ़ती है·तथा तथास्य विज्ञानं (tathā tathāsya vijñānaṃ) — so and so his understandingवैसे-वैसे इसका विज्ञान·वर्द्धते कुलनायिके (varddhate kulanāyike) — grows, O mistress of the Kulaबढ़ता है, हे कुलनायिके

किं तीर्थाद्यैर्महायासैः (kiṃ tīrthādyairmahāyāsaiḥ) — what use of tīrthas and the like, with great toilमहाश्रम वाले तीर्थ आदि से क्या·किं व्रतैः कायशोषणैः (kiṃ vrataiḥ kāyaśoṣaṇaiḥ) — what use of vows that wither the bodyकाया सुखाने वाले व्रतों से क्या·निर्व्याजसेवा देवेशि (nirvyājasevā deveśi) — guileless service, O queen of godsनिर्व्याज (निष्कपट) सेवा, हे देवेशि·भक्तिरेषा हि सद्गुरोः (bhaktireṣā hi sadguroḥ) — this is devotion to the true guruयही सद्गुरु की भक्ति है

अशुभानि च कर्माणि (aśubhāni ca karmāṇi) — and inauspicious deedsऔर अशुभ कर्म·महापातकजानि च (mahāpātakajāni ca) — and those born of great sinsऔर महापातकों से उत्पन्न·भक्तिः क्षणेन दहति (bhaktiḥ kṣaṇena dahati) — devotion burns in an instantभक्ति क्षण में जला देती है·तूलराशिमिवानलः (tūlarāśimivānalaḥ) — as fire a heap of cottonजैसे अग्नि रुई के ढेर को

विश्वासाय नमस्तस्मै (viśvāsāya namastasmai) — obeisance to that faithउस विश्वास को नमस्कार·सर्वसिद्धिप्रदायिने (sarvasiddhipradāyine) — bestower of all siddhisसब सिद्धियाँ देने वाले·येन मृद्दारुदृषदः (yena mṛddārudṛṣadaḥ) — by which clay, wood and stoneजिससे मिट्टी, लकड़ी, पत्थर·फलन्त्यविफलं फलम् (phalantyaviphalaṃ phalam) — yield an unfailing fruitअविफल फल देते हैं

न योगो न तपो (na yogo na tapo) — neither yoga nor austerityन योग, न तप·नार्चाक्रमः कोऽपि (nārcākramaḥ ko'pi) — nor any sequence of worshipन कोई अर्चा-क्रम·प्रलीयते (pralīyate) — is absorbed (avails)काम आता है·अमाये कुलमार्गेऽस्मिन् (amāye kulamārge'smin) — in this Kula path free of māyāइस माया-रहित कुलमार्ग में·भक्तिरेव विशिष्यते (bhaktireva viśiṣyate) — devotion alone is pre-eminentभक्ति ही विशिष्ट है

साक्षाद् गुरुमये देवि (sākṣād gurumaye devi) — manifestly pervaded by the guru, O Devīसाक्षात् गुरुमय, हे देवि·सर्वस्मिन् भुवनान्तरे (sarvasmin bhuvanāntare) — in all the interior of the worldsसब भुवनों के भीतर·किन्नु भक्तिमतां क्षेत्रे (kinnu bhaktimatāṃ kṣetre) — how then, in the field of the devotedभक्तिमानों के क्षेत्र में·मन्त्रः केषां न सिध्यति (mantraḥ keṣāṃ na sidhyati) — for whom would the mantra not succeedकिनका मन्त्र सिद्ध न हो?

गुरौ मनुष्यबुद्धिञ्च (gurau manuṣyabuddhiñca) — the notion of a human in the guruगुरु में मनुष्य-बुद्धि·मन्त्रे चाक्षरबुद्धिकम् (mantre cākṣarabuddhikam) — and the notion of mere letters in the mantraऔर मन्त्र में अक्षर-बुद्धि·प्रतिमासु शिलाबुद्धिं (pratimāsu śilābuddhiṃ) — the notion of stone in the imagesप्रतिमाओं में शिला-बुद्धि·कुर्वाणो नरकं व्रजेत् (kurvāṇo narakaṃ vrajet) — one who entertains goes to hellकरने वाला नरक में जाता है

गुरुं न मर्त्यं बुध्येत (guruṃ na martyaṃ budhyeta) — one should not think the guru a mortalगुरु को मर्त्य न समझे·यदि बुध्येत तस्य हि (yadi budhyeta tasya hi) — if one so thinks, for him indeedयदि समझे तो उसकी·न कदाचिद्भवेत् सिद्धिः (na kadācidbhavet siddhiḥ) — there is never siddhiकभी सिद्धि नहीं होती·मन्त्रैर्वा देवतार्चनैः (mantrairvā devatārcanaiḥ) — by mantras or by worship of deitiesमन्त्रों से या देवताओं के अर्चन से

श्रीगुरुं प्राकृतैः सार्द्धं (śrīguruṃ prākṛtaiḥ sārddhaṃ) — the Śrī-guru together with common menश्रीगुरु को साधारण मनुष्यों के साथ·ये स्मरन्ति वदन्ति च (ye smaranti vadanti ca) — those who remember and speak ofजो स्मरण करते और कहते हैं·तेषां हि सुकृतं सर्वं (teṣāṃ hi sukṛtaṃ sarvaṃ) — all their meritउनका सब सुकृत·पातकं भवति प्रिये (pātakaṃ bhavati priye) — becomes sin, O belovedपातक हो जाता है, हे प्रिये

जन्महेतू हि पितरौ (janmahetū hi pitarau) — the parents, the cause of birthजन्म के हेतु माता-पिता·पूजनीयौ प्रयत्नतः (pūjanīyau prayatnataḥ) — are to be honoured with careयत्न से पूजनीय हैं·गुरुर्विशेषतः पूज्यो (gururviśeṣataḥ pūjyo) — the guru is especially to be honouredगुरु विशेष रूप से पूज्य हैं·धर्माधर्मप्रदर्शकः (dharmādharmapradarśakaḥ) — the revealer of dharma and adharmaधर्म-अधर्म के प्रदर्शक

गुरुः पिता गुरुर्माता (guruḥ pitā gururmātā) — the guru is father, the guru is motherगुरु पिता हैं, गुरु माता हैं·गुरुर्देवो महेश्वरः (gururdevo maheśvaraḥ) — the guru is God, Maheśvaraगुरु देव महेश्वर हैं·शिवे रुष्टे गुरुस्त्राता (śive ruṣṭe gurustrātā) — when Śiva is angered, the guru is the saviourशिव रुष्ट हों तो गुरु त्राता हैं·गुरौ रुष्टे न कश्चन (gurau ruṣṭe na kaścana) — when the guru is angered, there is no oneगुरु रुष्ट हों तो कोई नहीं

गुरोर्हितं हि कर्तव्यं (gurorhitaṃ hi kartavyaṃ) — the guru's good is to be doneगुरु का हित करना चाहिए·मनोवाक्कायकर्मभिः (manovākkāyakarmabhiḥ) — by acts of mind, speech and bodyमन, वाणी, काया के कर्मों से·अहिताचरणाद्देवि (ahitācaraṇāddevi) — by acting against his good, O Devīअहित करने से, हे देवि·विष्ठायां जायते क्रिमिः (viṣṭhāyāṃ jāyate krimiḥ) — one is born a worm in excrementविष्ठा में कीड़ा जन्मता है

शरीरवित्तप्राणैश्च (śarīravittaprāṇaiśca) — with body, wealth and life-breathsशरीर, धन, प्राणों से·श्रीगुरुं वञ्चयन्ति ये (śrīguruṃ vañcayanti ye) — those who cheat the Śrī-guruजो श्रीगुरु को ठगते हैं·क्रिमिकीटपतङ्गत्वं (krimikīṭapataṅgatvaṃ) — the state of worms, insects and mothsकीड़े, कीट, पतंगे की योनि·प्राप्नुवन्ति न संशयः (prāpnuvanti na saṃśayaḥ) — they attain — no doubtपाते हैं, सन्देह नहीं

मन्त्रत्यागाद्भवेन्मृत्युः (mantratyāgādbhavenmṛtyuḥ) — from abandoning the mantra comes deathमन्त्र-त्याग से मृत्यु होती है·गुरुत्यागाद्दरिद्रता (gurutyāgāddaridratā) — from abandoning the guru, povertyगुरु-त्याग से दरिद्रता·गुरुमन्त्रपरित्यागात् (gurumantraparityāgāt) — from abandoning both guru and mantraगुरु और मन्त्र दोनों के त्याग से·रौरवं नरकं व्रजेत् (rauravaṃ narakaṃ vrajet) — one goes to the Raurava hellरौरव नरक में जाता है

गुर्वर्थं धारयेद्देहं (gurvarthaṃ dhārayeddehaṃ) — for the guru's sake one should keep the bodyगुरु के लिए देह धारण करे·तदर्थं धनमर्जयेत् (tadarthaṃ dhanamarjayet) — for his sake earn wealthउनके लिए धन अर्जित करे·निजप्राणान् परित्यज्य (nijaprāṇān parityajya) — giving up one's own life-breathsअपने प्राणों को छोड़कर·गुरुकार्यं समाचरेत् (gurukāryaṃ samācaret) — one should carry out the guru's workगुरु का कार्य करे

गुरूक्तं परुषं वाक्यं (gurūktaṃ paruṣaṃ vākyaṃ) — a harsh word spoken by the guruगुरु का कहा कठोर वाक्य·आशिषं परिचिन्तयेत् (āśiṣaṃ paricintayet) — one should regard as a blessingआशीर्वाद समझे·तेन सन्ताडितो वापि (tena santāḍito vāpi) — even when beaten by himउनसे पीटा जाने पर भी·प्रसादमिति संस्मरेत् (prasādamiti saṃsmaret) — one should remember it as graceप्रसाद (कृपा) समझे

भोग्यभोज्यानि वस्तूनि (bhogyabhojyāni vastūni) — things for enjoyment and for eatingभोग्य और भोज्य वस्तुएँ·गुरुवे च समर्पयेत् (guruve ca samarpayet) — one should offer to the guruगुरु को समर्पित करे·तच्छेषमिति सञ्चिन्त्य (taccheṣamiti sañcintya) — regarding (them) as his remnant"उनका शेष" ऐसा समझकर·चानुभूयात् कुलेश्वरि (cānubhūyāt kuleśvari) — one should enjoy them, O Lady of the Kulaउपभोग करे, हे कुलेश्वरि

गुर्वग्रे न तपः कुर्यात् (gurvagre na tapaḥ kuryāt) — before the guru one should not perform austerityगुरु के सामने तप न करे·नोपवासव्रतादिकम् (nopavāsavratādikam) — nor fasting, vows and the likeन उपवास, व्रत आदि·तीर्थयात्रां न कुर्याच्च (tīrthayātrāṃ na kuryācca) — nor should one undertake pilgrimageतीर्थयात्रा भी न करे·न स्नायादात्मशुद्धये (na snāyādātmaśuddhaye) — nor bathe for one's own purificationन आत्मशुद्धि के लिए स्नान करे

न कुर्यान्नास्तिकैर्वादं (na kuryānnāstikairvādaṃ) — one should not debate with nāstikasनास्तिकों से वाद न करे·सम्भाषणमपीश्वरि (sambhāṣaṇamapīśvari) — nor even converse, O Īśvarīसम्भाषण भी नहीं, हे ईश्वरि·विलोक्य दूरतो गच्छेत् (vilokya dūrato gacchet) — seeing them, one should go far awayदेखकर दूर चला जाए·नासीत सह तैः क्वचित् (nāsīta saha taiḥ kvacit) — nor ever sit with themउनके साथ कभी न बैठे

गुरौ सन्निहिते यस्तु (gurau sannihite yastu) — he who, when the guru is presentगुरु के सन्निहित होने पर जो·पूजयेदन्यमम्बिके (pūjayedanyamambike) — worships another, O Ambikāअन्य की पूजा करे, हे अम्बिके·स याति नरकं घोरं (sa yāti narakaṃ ghoraṃ) — he goes to a dreadful hellवह घोर नरक में जाता है·सा पूजा निष्फला भवेत् (sā pūjā niṣphalā bhavet) — and that worship is fruitlessऔर वह पूजा निष्फल होती है

शिरसा न वहेद्भारं (śirasā na vahedbhāraṃ) — one should not carry a load on the headसिर पर भार न ढोए·गुरुपादाब्जधारिणा (gurupādābjadhāriṇā) — (the head) that bears the guru's lotus feet(जो सिर) गुरु के चरण-कमल धारण करता है·तदाज्ञया तु कर्तव्यम् (tadājñayā tu kartavyam) — but at his command it may be doneपर उनकी आज्ञा से करना चाहिए·आज्ञारूपो गुरुः स्मृतः (ājñārūpo guruḥ smṛtaḥ) — the guru is held to be command itselfगुरु आज्ञा-रूप माने गए हैं

मन्त्रागमाद्यमन्यत्र (mantrāgamādyamanyatra) — mantra, āgama and the like, elsewhereमन्त्र, आगम आदि अन्यत्र·श्रुतं तस्मै निवेदयेत् (śrutaṃ tasmai nivedayet) — heard, one should report to himसुना हो तो उन्हें निवेदन करे·गुर्वाज्ञया तु गृह्णीयात् (gurvājñayā tu gṛhṇīyāt) — with the guru's permission one may accept itगुरु की आज्ञा से ग्रहण करे·तन्निषिद्धं विवर्जयेत् (tanniṣiddhaṃ vivarjayet) — what he forbids one should shunउनके निषिद्ध को त्याग दे

स्वशास्त्रोक्तं रहस्यार्थं (svaśāstroktaṃ rahasyārthaṃ) — the secret meaning taught in one's own śāstraअपने शास्त्र में कहा रहस्यार्थ·न वदेद् यस्य कस्यचित् (na vaded yasya kasyacit) — one should not tell to just anyoneजिस-किसी को न कहे·यदि ब्रूयात् (yadi brūyāt) — if one tells itयदि कहे·स समयाच्च्युत एव (sa samayāccyuta eva) — he has surely fallen from the samayaवह समय से च्युत ही है·न संशयः (na saṃśayaḥ) — no doubtसन्देह नहीं

अद्वैतं भावयेन्नित्यं (advaitaṃ bhāvayennityaṃ) — one should always contemplate non-dualityनित्य अद्वैत की भावना करे·न द्वैतं गुरुणा सह (na dvaitaṃ guruṇā saha) — not duality, with the guruगुरु के साथ द्वैत नहीं·आत्मवत् सर्वभूतेभ्यो (ātmavat sarvabhūtebhyo) — as for oneself, for all beingsअपने समान सब प्राणियों का·हितं कुर्यात् कुलेश्वरि (hitaṃ kuryāt kuleśvari) — one should do good, O Lady of the Kulaहित करे, हे कुलेश्वरि

आत्मार्थमानसद्भावैः (ātmārthamānasadbhāvaiḥ) — with self, goods, mind and sincere feelingआत्मा, अर्थ (धन), मन, सद्भाव से·शुश्रूषा स्याच्चतुर्विधा (śuśrūṣā syāccaturvidhā) — service is fourfoldशुश्रूषा चार प्रकार की है·शुश्रूषया धिया देवि (śuśrūṣayā dhiyā devi) — by service and by understanding, O Devīशुश्रूषा और बुद्धि से, हे देवि·शिष्यः सन्तोषयेद् गुरुम् (śiṣyaḥ santoṣayed gurum) — the disciple should gratify the guruशिष्य गुरु को सन्तुष्ट करे

पदे पदेऽश्वमेधस्य (pade pade'śvamedhasya) — at every step, of an Aśvamedhaपद-पद पर अश्वमेध का·फलं प्राप्नोत्यसंशयः (phalaṃ prāpnotyasaṃśayaḥ) — the fruit he obtains, without doubtफल पाता है, निःसन्देह·शुश्रूषणपरो यस्तु (śuśrūṣaṇaparo yastu) — he who is intent on servingजो शुश्रूषा में तत्पर है·गुरुदेवमहात्मनाम् (gurudevamahātmanām) — the guru, the gods and the great soulsगुरु, देव, महात्माओं की

केवलं गुरुशुश्रूषा (kevalaṃ guruśuśrūṣā) — service to the guru aloneकेवल गुरु-शुश्रूषा·त्वत्कृपाकारिणी प्रिये (tvatkṛpākāriṇī priye) — brings about your grace, O belovedतुम्हारी कृपा कराती है, हे प्रिये·सद्भक्तिसहिता चेत् सा (sadbhaktisahitā cet sā) — if it is joined with true devotionयदि वह सद्भक्ति सहित हो·सर्वकामफलप्रदा (sarvakāmaphalapradā) — it grants the fruit of all desiresसब कामनाओं का फल देती है

क्षीयन्ते सर्वपापानि (kṣīyante sarvapāpāni) — all sins are destroyedसब पाप क्षीण होते हैं·वर्द्धन्ते पुण्यराशयः (varddhante puṇyarāśayaḥ) — heaps of merit increaseपुण्य-राशि बढ़ती है·सिध्यन्ति सर्वकार्याणि (sidhyanti sarvakāryāṇi) — all undertakings succeedसब कार्य सिद्ध होते हैं·गुरुशुश्रूषया प्रिये (guruśuśrūṣayā priye) — by service to the guru, O belovedगुरु-शुश्रूषा से, हे प्रिये

यद् यदात्महितं वस्तु (yad yadātmahitaṃ vastu) — whatever thing is good for oneselfजो-जो वस्तु अपने लिए हितकर·तत्तद्धितमुपाचरेत् (tattaddhitamupācaret) — that very good he should do (for the guru)वह-वह हित (गुरु के लिए) करे·गुरुदेवार्चको यस्तु (gurudevārcako yastu) — he who worships the guru as Godजो गुरु को देव मानकर पूजता है·तस्य पुण्यं न गण्यते (tasya puṇyaṃ na gaṇyate) — his merit cannot be countedउसका पुण्य गिना नहीं जाता

भक्त्या वित्तानुसारेण (bhaktyā vittānusāreṇa) — with devotion, according to one's meansभक्ति से, वित्त के अनुसार·गुरुमुद्दिश्य यत् कृतम् (gurumuddiśya yat kṛtam) — what is done for the guruगुरु के उद्देश्य से जो किया·अल्पे महति वा (alpe mahati vā) — whether small or greatअल्प हो या महान्·तुल्यं पुण्यमाढ्यदरिद्रयोः (tulyaṃ puṇyamāḍhyadaridrayoḥ) — the merit of rich and poor is equalधनी और दरिद्र का पुण्य समान है

सर्वस्वमपि यो दद्याद् (sarvasvamapi yo dadyād) — even one who gives his allसर्वस्व भी जो दे·गुरौ भक्तिविवर्जितः (gurau bhaktivivarjitaḥ) — to the guru, without devotionगुरु को, भक्ति-रहित·शिष्यो न फलमाप्नोति (śiṣyo na phalamāpnoti) — that disciple obtains no fruitवह शिष्य फल नहीं पाता·भक्तिरेव हि कारणम् (bhaktireva hi kāraṇam) — devotion alone is the causeभक्ति ही कारण है

यस्मिन् द्रव्ये गुरोरस्ति स्पृहा (yasmin dravye gurorasti spṛhā) — the thing for which the guru has a wishजिस द्रव्य में गुरु की इच्छा हो·नानुभवेत्तु तत् (nānubhavettu tat) — one should not enjoy thatउसका उपभोग न करे·अवश्यं यदि वाञ्छा स्यात् (avaśyaṃ yadi vāñchā syāt) — if one must needs desire itयदि अवश्य इच्छा हो·अनुभूयात्तदाज्ञया (anubhūyāttadājñayā) — one may enjoy it with his permissionउनकी आज्ञा से उपभोग करे

यस्तिलार्द्धं तदर्द्धं वा (yastilārddhaṃ tadarddhaṃ vā) — he who half a sesame seed, or half of thatजो आधा तिल या उसका आधा भी·गुरुस्वमुपजीवति (gurusvamupajīvati) — lives off the guru's propertyगुरु के धन पर जीता है·लोभान्मोहात् स पच्येत (lobhānmohāt sa pacyeta) — through greed or delusion, he is cookedलोभ या मोह से, वह पकाया जाता है·नरके च त्रिसप्तके (narake ca trisaptake) — in hell for twenty-one (births)नरक में इक्कीस (जन्म)

अत्यल्पं हि गुरोर्द्रव्यम् (atyalpaṃ hi gurordravyam) — even a very small thing of the guru'sगुरु का अति अल्प द्रव्य भी·अदत्तं स्वीकरोति यः (adattaṃ svīkaroti yaḥ) — he who takes without its being givenजो बिना दिए स्वीकार करता है·स तिर्यग्योनिमापन्नः (sa tiryagyonimāpannaḥ) — he, fallen into an animal wombवह तिर्यक् योनि में पड़कर·क्रव्यादैर्भक्ष्यते प्रिये (kravyādairbhakṣyate priye) — is devoured by carnivores, O belovedमांसभक्षियों द्वारा खाया जाता है, हे प्रिये

गुरुद्रव्याभिलाषी च (gurudravyābhilāṣī ca) — one who covets the guru's propertyगुरु-द्रव्य का अभिलाषी·गुरुस्त्रीगमनोत्सुकः (gurustrīgamanotsukaḥ) — one eager to approach the guru's wifeगुरु-स्त्री के पास जाने में उत्सुक·पतितस्य क्षुल्लकस्य (patitasya kṣullakasya) — for such a fallen wretchउस पतित क्षुद्र का·प्रायश्चित्तं न विद्यते (prāyaścittaṃ na vidyate) — there is no expiationप्रायश्चित्त नहीं है

आज्ञाभङ्गोऽर्थहरणं (ājñābhaṅgo'rthaharaṇaṃ) — breaking his command, seizing his goodsआज्ञा-भंग, अर्थ-हरण·गुरोरप्रियवर्तनम् (gurorapriyavartanam) — behaving disagreeably to the guruगुरु के प्रति अप्रिय व्यवहार·गुरुद्रोहमिदं प्राहुः (gurudrohamidaṃ prāhuḥ) — this they call treachery to the guruइसे गुरु-द्रोह कहते हैं·यः करोति स पातकी (yaḥ karoti sa pātakī) — he who does it is a sinnerजो करता है वह पातकी है

स्वद्रव्यविनियोगञ्च (svadravyaviniyogañca) — the disposal of one's own propertyअपने द्रव्य का विनियोग·नानिवेद्य गुरौ चरेत् (nānivedya gurau caret) — one should not do without informing the guruगुरु को निवेदन किए बिना न करे·अनिवेद्य तु यः कुर्यात् (anivedya tu yaḥ kuryāt) — he who does it without informingजो निवेदन किए बिना करे·स भवेद् ब्रह्मघातकः (sa bhaved brahmaghātakaḥ) — becomes a slayer of a brāhmaṇaवह ब्रह्मघातक हो जाता है

गुरोः स्थानं सम्प्रदायं (guroḥ sthānaṃ sampradāyaṃ) — the guru's seat, his lineageगुरु का स्थान, सम्प्रदाय·तद्धर्मं यो विनाशयेत् (taddharmaṃ yo vināśayet) — and his dharma — he who destroysउनका धर्म — जो नष्ट करे·गुरुभिः स बहिष्कार्यो (gurubhiḥ sa bahiṣkāryo) — is to be expelled by the gurusवह गुरुओं द्वारा बहिष्कार्य है·दण्ड्यो वध्यः स घातकैः (daṇḍyo vadhyaḥ sa ghātakaiḥ) — punished and slain by executionersदण्ड्य और घातकों द्वारा वध्य

जीवेदग्निप्रविष्टो वा (jīvedagnipraviṣṭo vā) — one who has entered fire may liveअग्नि में प्रविष्ट जी सकता है·नरः पीतविषोऽपि वा (naraḥ pītaviṣo'pi vā) — or a man who has drunk poisonया विष पिया मनुष्य भी·मृत्युहस्तगतो वापि (mṛtyuhastagato vāpi) — or one fallen into the hands of deathया मृत्यु के हाथ में गया भी·नापराधकरो गुरोः (nāparādhakaro guroḥ) — but not one who has offended the guruपर गुरु का अपराधी नहीं

यत्र श्रीगुरुनिन्दा स्यात् (yatra śrīgurunindā syāt) — where there is reviling of the Śrī-guruजहाँ श्रीगुरु की निन्दा हो·पिधाय श्रवणेऽम्बिके (pidhāya śravaṇe'mbike) — covering the ears, O Ambikāकान बन्द कर, हे अम्बिके·सद्यस्तस्माद्विनिष्क्रामेत् (sadyastasmādviniṣkrāmet) — one should at once go out from thereतत्काल वहाँ से निकल जाए·पुनर्न श्रवणं यथा (punarna śravaṇaṃ yathā) — so that one hears no moreजिससे फिर न सुने·गुरोर्नाम स्मरेत् पश्चात् (gurornāma smaret paścāt) — afterwards one should remember the guru's nameबाद में गुरु का नाम स्मरण करे·श्रवणे सा प्रतिक्रिया (śravaṇe sā pratikriyā) — that is the remedy for having heardसुनने का यह प्रतिकार है

गुरुमित्रसुहृद्दासीदासाद्यान् (gurumitrasuhṛddāsīdāsādyān) — the guru's friends, well-wishers, maidservants, servants and the restगुरु के मित्र, सुहृद, दासी, दास आदि का·नावमानयेत् (nāvamānayet) — one should not slightअपमान न करे·न निन्देदस्य समयान् (na nindedasya samayān) — one should not revile his rulesउनके समयों (नियमों) की निन्दा न करे·वेदशास्त्रागमादिकान् (vedaśāstrāgamādikān) — his Veda, śāstra, āgama and the restवेद, शास्त्र, आगम आदि की

गुरोः श्रीपादुकाभूषा (guroḥ śrīpādukābhūṣā) — the Śrī-pādukā of the guru is one's ornamentगुरु की श्रीपादुका भूषण है·गुरुनामस्मृतिर्जपः (gurunāmasmṛtirjapaḥ) — remembrance of the guru's name is japaगुरु-नाम की स्मृति जप है·गुर्वाज्ञाकरणं कृत्यं (gurvājñākaraṇaṃ kṛtyaṃ) — doing the guru's command is one's dutyगुरु-आज्ञा का पालन कृत्य है·शुश्रूषा भजनं गुरोः (śuśrūṣā bhajanaṃ guroḥ) — service is the worship of the guruशुश्रूषा गुरु का भजन है

विविक्षुर्देशिकावासं (vivikṣurdeśikāvāsaṃ) — wishing to enter the teacher's dwellingदेशिक (गुरु) के आवास में प्रवेश चाहता·शान्तचित्तोऽतिभक्तिमान् (śāntacitto'tibhaktimān) — with calm mind and great devotionशान्तचित्त, अतिभक्तिमान्·वाहनं पादुकां छत्रं (vāhanaṃ pādukāṃ chatraṃ) — vehicle, sandals, parasolवाहन, पादुका, छत्र·चामरं व्यजनादिकम् (cāmaraṃ vyajanādikam) — chowrie, fan and the likeचामर, पंखा आदि·ताम्बूलं कज्जलं वेशम् (tāmbūlaṃ kajjalaṃ veśam) — betel, collyrium, fineryताम्बूल, काजल, वेश·उत्सृज्य प्रविशेच्छनैः (utsṛjya praviśecchanaiḥ) — having put aside, one should enter slowlyछोड़कर धीरे प्रवेश करे

पादुकामासनं वस्त्रं (pādukāmāsanaṃ vastraṃ) — sandals, seat, garmentपादुका, आसन, वस्त्र·वाहनं छत्रचामरे (vāhanaṃ chatracāmare) — vehicle, parasol and chowrieवाहन, छत्र, चामर·दृष्ट्वा गुरोर्नमस्कुर्यात् (dṛṣṭvā gurornamaskuryāt) — of the guru — seeing them one should bowगुरु के — देखकर नमस्कार करे·नात्मभोगाय कामयेत् (nātmabhogāya kāmayet) — and not desire them for one's own useअपने भोग के लिए कामना न करे

पादप्रक्षालनं स्नानम् (pādaprakṣālanaṃ snānam) — washing the feet, bathingपैर धोना, स्नान·अभ्यङ्गं दन्तधावनम् (abhyaṅgaṃ dantadhāvanam) — anointing, cleaning the teethअभ्यंग, दन्तधावन·मूत्रं निष्ठीवनं क्षौरं (mūtraṃ niṣṭhīvanaṃ kṣauraṃ) — urinating, spitting, shavingमूत्र, थूकना, क्षौर·शयनं स्त्रीनिषेवनम् (śayanaṃ strīniṣevanam) — lying down, intercourse with a womanशयन, स्त्री-सेवन

वीरासनं सुदुर्वाक्यं (vīrāsanaṃ sudurvākyaṃ) — sitting in vīrāsana, very harsh speechवीरासन, अति कटु वाक्य·शासनं हास्यरोदनम् (śāsanaṃ hāsyarodanam) — giving orders, laughing and weepingशासन (आदेश), हास्य, रोदन·केशमोचनमुष्णीषं (keśamocanamuṣṇīṣaṃ) — loosening the hair, wearing a turbanकेश खोलना, पगड़ी·कञ्चुकं नग्नतां तथा (kañcukaṃ nagnatāṃ tathā) — a jacket, and likewise nakednessकंचुकी, वैसे ही नग्नता

पादप्रसारणं वादं (pādaprasāraṇaṃ vādaṃ) — stretching out the feet, debateपैर फैलाना, वाद·कलहं दूषणं प्रिये (kalahaṃ dūṣaṇaṃ priye) — quarrel, fault-finding, O belovedकलह, दोष-दर्शन, हे प्रिये·अङ्गभङ्गाङ्गवाद्यादि- (aṅgabhaṅgāṅgavādyādi-) — stretching the limbs, drumming on the limbs and so onअंग मोड़ना, अंग बजाना आदि·करास्फालनधूननम् (karāsphālanadhūnanam) — clapping the hands and shaking themहाथ पटकना, झटकना

द्यूतकौतुकमल्लादि- (dyūtakautukamallādi-) — gambling, sport, wrestling and so onद्यूत, कौतुक, मल्ल आदि·युद्धनृत्यादि चाम्बिके (yuddhanṛtyādi cāmbike) — fighting, dancing and so on, O Ambikāयुद्ध, नृत्य आदि, हे अम्बिके·गुरुयोगिमहासिद्धि- (guruyogimahāsiddhi-) — of the guru, of yogins, of the great siddhasगुरु, योगी, महासिद्धों के·पीठक्षेत्राश्रमेषु च (pīṭhakṣetrāśrameṣu ca) — in the pīṭhas, sacred fields and āśramasपीठ, क्षेत्र, आश्रमों में·नाचरेत् (nācaret) — one should not doन करे·आचरेन्मोहात् (ācarenmohāt) — if one does out of delusionयदि मोह से करे·देवताशापमाप्नुयात् (devatāśāpamāpnuyāt) — one incurs the curse of the deitiesदेवताओं का शाप पाता है

उपचारेण सन्तिष्ठेद् (upacāreṇa santiṣṭhed) — one should stand with due respectउपचार (आदर) से स्थित रहे·गुर्वग्रे (gurvagre) — before the guruगुरु के सामने·नेच्छया विशेत् (necchayā viśet) — one should not enter at one's own willइच्छा से प्रवेश न करे·मुखावलोकी सेवेत (mukhāvalokī seveta) — one should serve, watching his faceमुख देखते हुए सेवा करे·तदुक्तञ्च समाचरेत् (taduktañca samācaret) — and do what he saysऔर उनका कहा करे

गुरूक्तानुक्तकार्येषु (gurūktānuktakāryeṣu) — in tasks spoken or unspoken by the guruगुरु के कहे-अनकहे कार्यों में·नोपेक्षां कारयेत् प्रिये (nopekṣāṃ kārayet priye) — one should show no neglect, O belovedउपेक्षा न करे, हे प्रिये·शिरसा यद्गुरुर्ब्रूयात् (śirasā yadgururbrūyāt) — whatever the guru says, (accept) with the headजो गुरु कहें, सिर से (स्वीकार)·तत् कार्यमविशङ्कया (tat kāryamaviśaṅkayā) — that is to be done without hesitationवह निःशंक करना चाहिए

निग्रहेऽनुग्रहे वापि (nigrahe'nugrahe vāpi) — in punishment or in graceनिग्रह में या अनुग्रह में·गुरुः सर्वस्य कारणम् (guruḥ sarvasya kāraṇam) — the guru is the cause of everythingगुरु सबके कारण हैं·निर्गतं यद्गुरोर्वक्त्रात् (nirgataṃ yadgurorvaktrāt) — whatever comes forth from the guru's mouthजो गुरु के मुख से निकला·सर्वं शास्त्रं तदुच्यते (sarvaṃ śāstraṃ taducyate) — all that is called śāstraवह सब शास्त्र कहलाता है

गुरुकार्ये स्वयं शक्तो (gurukārye svayaṃ śakto) — able himself to do the guru's workगुरु-कार्य में स्वयं समर्थ·नापरं प्रेषयेत् प्रिये (nāparaṃ preṣayet priye) — one should not send another, O belovedदूसरे को न भेजे, हे प्रिये·बहुभृत्यपरैर्भृत्यैः (bahubhṛtyaparairbhṛtyaiḥ) — with many servants and servants' servantsबहुत सेवकों और सेवकों के सेवकों·सहितोऽप्यतिभक्तिमान् (sahito'pyatibhaktimān) — even if attended, one of great devotionसहित हो तो भी अतिभक्तिमान्

गच्छंस्तिष्ठन् स्वपन् जाग्रत् (gacchaṃstiṣṭhan svapan jāgrat) — walking, standing, sleeping, wakingचलते, खड़े, सोते, जागते·जपन् जुह्वत् प्रपूजयेत् (japan juhvat prapūjayet) — doing japa, offering oblation, worshippingजपते, हवन करते, पूजा करते·गुर्वाज्ञामेव कुर्वीत (gurvājñāmeva kurvīta) — one should do only the guru's commandगुरु-आज्ञा ही करे·तदगतेनान्तरात्मना (tadagatenāntarātmanā) — with the inner self fixed on himउनमें लगे अन्तरात्मा से

अभिमानो न कर्तव्यो (abhimāno na kartavyo) — pride is not to be entertainedअभिमान नहीं करना चाहिए·जातिविद्याधनादिभिः (jātividyādhanādibhiḥ) — on account of caste, learning, wealth and the likeजाति, विद्या, धन आदि से·सर्वदा सेवयेत् नित्यं (sarvadā sevayet nityaṃ) — one should always, constantly serveसदा नित्य सेवा करे·शिष्यः श्रीगुरुसन्निधौ (śiṣyaḥ śrīgurusannidhau) — the disciple, in the presence of the Śrī-guruशिष्य श्रीगुरु के सन्निधान में

कामक्रोधपरित्यागी (kāmakrodhaparityāgī) — having given up desire and angerकाम-क्रोध का त्यागी·विनीतः स्तुतिभक्तिमान् (vinītaḥ stutibhaktimān) — humble, full of praise and devotionविनीत, स्तुति और भक्ति वाला·देवि भूम्यासने तिष्ठेद् (devi bhūmyāsane tiṣṭhed) — O Devī, he should sit on the groundहे देवि, भूमि के आसन पर बैठे·गुरुकार्यं समाचरेत् (gurukāryaṃ samācaret) — and carry out the guru's workगुरु-कार्य करे

स्वकार्यमन्यकार्यं वा (svakāryamanyakāryaṃ vā) — whether his own task or another'sअपना कार्य या दूसरे का·शिष्यः स्वगुरुचित्तवित् (śiṣyaḥ svagurucittavit) — the disciple, knowing his guru's mindशिष्य अपने गुरु का चित्त जानने वाला·गुरुपार्श्वगतो नम्रः (gurupārśvagato namraḥ) — at the guru's side, humbleगुरु के पास, नम्र·प्रसन्नवदनो भवेत् (prasannavadano bhavet) — should be of cheerful countenanceप्रसन्न मुख रहे

सामान्यतो निषिद्धञ्च (sāmānyato niṣiddhañca) — what is forbidden in generalसामान्यतः जो निषिद्ध है·तद्गुरोर्यदि सन्निधौ (tadguroryadi sannidhau) — if that, in the guru's presenceवह यदि गुरु के सन्निधान में·आचरेत्तस्य सर्वस्य (ācarettasya sarvasya) — one does — of all thatकरे तो उस सबका·दोषः कोटिगुणो भवेत् (doṣaḥ koṭiguṇo bhavet) — the fault becomes a crore-foldदोष करोड़ गुना होता है

अनादृत्य गुरोर्वाक्यं (anādṛtya gurorvākyaṃ) — disregarding the guru's wordगुरु-वाक्य का अनादर कर·शृणुयाद् यः पराङ्मुखः (śṛṇuyād yaḥ parāṅmukhaḥ) — he who listens with face turned awayजो विमुख होकर सुने·अहितं वा हितं वापि (ahitaṃ vā hitaṃ vāpi) — whether it be unwelcome or welcomeअहित हो या हित·रौरवं नरकं व्रजेत् (rauravaṃ narakaṃ vrajet) — goes to the Raurava hellरौरव नरक में जाता है

गोब्राह्मणवधं कृत्वा (gobrāhmaṇavadhaṃ kṛtvā) — having killed a cow or a brāhmaṇaगौ या ब्राह्मण का वध करके·यत् पापं समवाप्नुयात् (yat pāpaṃ samavāpnuyāt) — the sin one would incurजो पाप पाता है·तत् पापं समवाप्नोति (tat pāpaṃ samavāpnoti) — that sin one incursवह पाप पाता है·गुर्वग्रेऽनृतभाषणात् (gurvagre'nṛtabhāṣaṇāt) — by speaking falsehood before the guruगुरु के सामने असत्य बोलने से

अधः स्थिते गुरौ (adhaḥ sthite gurau) — when the guru is seated belowगुरु के नीचे स्थित होने पर·ऊर्ध्वे न तिष्ठेत कदाचन (ūrdhve na tiṣṭheta kadācana) — one should never stand aboveऊपर कभी न रहे·न गच्छेदग्रतस्तस्य (na gacchedagratastasya) — one should not walk in front of himउनके आगे न चले·न तिष्ठेदुत्थिते गुरौ (na tiṣṭhedutthite gurau) — nor remain (seated) when the guru has risenगुरु के उठने पर (बैठा) न रहे

शक्तिच्छायां सुरच्छायां (śakticchāyāṃ suracchāyāṃ) — the shadow of a Śakti, the shadow of a godशक्ति की छाया, देव की छाया·गुरुच्छायां न लङ्घयेत् (gurucchāyāṃ na laṅghayet) — the shadow of the guru — one should not step overगुरु की छाया न लाँघे·न तेषु कुर्यात् स्वच्छायां (na teṣu kuryāt svacchāyāṃ) — one should not cast one's own shadow on themउन पर अपनी छाया न डाले·न स्वपेद् गुरुसन्निधौ (na svaped gurusannidhau) — nor sleep in the guru's presenceगुरु के सन्निधान में न सोए

भाषणं पाठनं गानं (bhāṣaṇaṃ pāṭhanaṃ gānaṃ) — speaking, reciting, singingबोलना, पढ़ना, गाना·भोजनं शयनादिकम् (bhojanaṃ śayanādikam) — eating, lying down and the likeभोजन, शयन आदि·अनादिष्टो न कुर्वीत (anādiṣṭo na kurvīta) — one should not do unbiddenबिना आदेश न करे·न चावन्दनपूर्वकम् (na cāvandanapūrvakam) — nor without first salutingन वन्दन के बिना

ब्रह्महत्याशतं कुर्यात् (brahmahatyāśataṃ kuryāt) — one may commit a hundred brāhmaṇa-slayingsसौ ब्रह्महत्या कर सकता है·गुर्वाज्ञापरिपालनात् (gurvājñāparipālanāt) — in obedience to the guru's commandगुरु-आज्ञा के पालन में·विना गुर्वाज्ञया शिष्यो (vinā gurvājñayā śiṣyo) — without the guru's command, the discipleगुरु-आज्ञा के बिना शिष्य·विश्वसेन्नान्यशासनात् (viśvasennānyaśāsanāt) — should not trust another's instructionअन्य के शासन पर विश्वास न करे

सर्वं गुर्वाज्ञया कुर्यात् (sarvaṃ gurvājñayā kuryāt) — one should do everything by the guru's commandसब गुरु-आज्ञा से करे·न निन्देत्तत्स्त्रियं प्रिये (na nindettatstriyaṃ priye) — one should not revile his wife, O belovedउनकी स्त्री की निन्दा न करे, हे प्रिये·भक्त्या प्रणम्य चोत्तिष्ठेत् (bhaktyā praṇamya cottiṣṭhet) — one should bow with devotion and riseभक्ति से प्रणाम कर उठे·कृताञ्जलिपुटः प्रिये (kṛtāñjalipuṭaḥ priye) — with hands folded, O belovedहाथ जोड़े हुए, हे प्रिये

पश्चात्पदेन निर्गच्छेत् (paścātpadena nirgacchet) — one should go out stepping backwardsपीछे पैर रखते हुए निकले·नमस्कृत्य गुरोर्गृहात् (namaskṛtya gurorgṛhāt) — after bowing, from the guru's houseनमस्कार कर, गुरु के घर से·एकासने नोपविशेद् (ekāsane nopaviśed) — one should not sit on one seatएक आसन पर न बैठे·गुरुणा तत्समैः सह (guruṇā tatsamaiḥ saha) — with the guru or with his equalsगुरु या उनके समानों के साथ

न विशेदासने देवि (na viśedāsane devi) — one should not take a seat, O Devīआसन पर न बैठे, हे देवि·देवतागुरुसन्निधौ (devatāgurusannidhau) — in the presence of the deity or the guruदेवता और गुरु के सन्निधान में·गुरोः सिंहासनं देयं (guroḥ siṃhāsanaṃ deyaṃ) — to the guru a throne is to be givenगुरु को सिंहासन देना चाहिए·ज्येष्ठानामुत्तमासनम् (jyeṣṭhānāmuttamāsanam) — to the seniors an excellent seatज्येष्ठों को उत्तम आसन·देश्यासनं कनिष्ठानाम् (deśyāsanaṃ kaniṣṭhānām) — a local (ordinary) seat to the juniorsकनिष्ठों को साधारण आसन·इतरेषां समासनम् (itareṣāṃ samāsanam) — an equal seat to the othersअन्यों को समान आसन

जातिविद्याधनाढ्यो वा (jātividyādhanāḍhyo vā) — even one rich in caste, learning or wealthजाति, विद्या, धन से समृद्ध हो तो भी·दूरे दृष्ट्वा गुरुं मुदा (dūre dṛṣṭvā guruṃ mudā) — seeing the guru from afar, joyfullyदूर से गुरु को देखकर प्रसन्नता से·दण्डप्रणामं कृत्वैकं (daṇḍapraṇāmaṃ kṛtvaikaṃ) — making one full prostrationएक दण्ड-प्रणाम कर·त्रिः प्रदक्षिणमाचरेत् (triḥ pradakṣiṇamācaret) — should circumambulate him thriceतीन प्रदक्षिणा करे

ततस्त्रिः षड् द्वादश वा (tatastriḥ ṣaḍ dvādaśa vā) — then thrice, six or twelve timesफिर तीन, छह या बारह·ज्येष्ठादिष्वेकमेव वा (jyeṣṭhādiṣvekameva vā) — or just once to the seniors and the restज्येष्ठ आदि को एक ही·गुरुप्रगुरुयोगेन (gurupraguruyogena) — when guru and grand-guru are togetherगुरु और परमगुरु के साथ होने पर·वन्देत प्रगुरुं प्रिये (vandeta praguruṃ priye) — one should salute the grand-guru, O belovedपरमगुरु को वन्दन करे, हे प्रिये

ततो नमेद् गुरुं वापि (tato named guruṃ vāpi) — then one may bow to the guru tooफिर गुरु को भी नमन करे·गुर्वाज्ञां न विचारयेत् (gurvājñāṃ na vicārayet) — one should not question the guru's commandगुरु-आज्ञा का विचार न करे·प्रगुरोः सन्निधौ शिष्यः (praguroḥ sannidhau śiṣyaḥ) — in the presence of the grand-guru the discipleपरमगुरु के सन्निधान में शिष्य·स्वगुरुं मनसा नमेत् (svaguruṃ manasā namet) — should bow to his own guru in mindअपने गुरु को मन से नमन करे

गुरुबुद्ध्या नमेत् (gurubuddhyā namet) — with the thought of the guru one should bowगुरु-बुद्धि से नमन करे·सर्वं दैवतं तृणमेव वा (sarvaṃ daivataṃ tṛṇameva vā) — to every deity, or even to a blade of grassसब देवताओं को, या तिनके को भी·न नमेद्देवबुद्ध्या तु (na nameddevabuddhyā tu) — but one should not bow with the thought of Godपर देव-बुद्धि से न नमे·प्रतिमां लौहमृण्मयीम् (pratimāṃ lauhamṛṇmayīm) — to an image of metal or clayलोहे या मिट्टी की प्रतिमा को

गुरोः प्रणामत्रितयं (guroḥ praṇāmatritayaṃ) — to the guru three prostrationsगुरु को तीन प्रणाम·ज्येष्ठानामेक एव च (jyeṣṭhānāmeka eva ca) — and to the seniors just oneऔर ज्येष्ठों को एक ही·पूज्यानामञ्जलिस्तद्वत् (pūjyānāmañjalistadvat) — likewise to the venerable, folded handsपूज्यों को वैसे ही अंजलि·अन्येषां वाक्यवन्दनम् (anyeṣāṃ vākyavandanam) — to others, a verbal greetingअन्यों को वाक्य-वन्दन

देवान् गुरून् कुलाचार्यान् (devān gurūn kulācāryān) — gods, gurus, Kula-ācāryasदेव, गुरु, कुलाचार्य·ज्ञानवृद्धान् तपोधनान् (jñānavṛddhān tapodhanān) — those grown old in knowledge, those rich in austerityज्ञानवृद्ध, तपोधन·विद्याधिकान् स्वधर्मस्थान् (vidyādhikān svadharmasthān) — those superior in learning, those firm in their own dharmaविद्या में अधिक, स्वधर्म में स्थित·प्रणमेत् कुलनायिके (praṇamet kulanāyike) — one should bow to, O mistress of the Kulaको प्रणाम करे, हे कुलनायिके

स्त्रीद्विष्टं गुरुभिः शप्तं (strīdviṣṭaṃ gurubhiḥ śaptaṃ) — one hated by women, one cursed by gurusस्त्री-द्वेषी, गुरु-शापित·पाषण्डं पण्डितं शठम् (pāṣaṇḍaṃ paṇḍitaṃ śaṭham) — a heretic, a pedant, a rogueपाषण्डी, पण्डित (दम्भी), शठ·विकर्माणं कृतघ्नञ्च (vikarmāṇaṃ kṛtaghnañca) — an evil-doer and an ingrateविकर्मी और कृतघ्न·अनाश्रमिणञ्च नो नमेत् (anāśramiṇañca no namet) — and one outside the āśramas — one should not bow toऔर आश्रम-रहित को न नमे

अनिवेद्य गुरोर्भुङ्क्ते (anivedya gurorbhuṅkte) — eats without offering to the guruगुरु को निवेदन किए बिना खाता है·यस्त्वेकग्रामसंस्थितः (yastvekagrāmasaṃsthitaḥ) — he who lives in the same villageजो एक ही गाँव में स्थित है·अमेध्यं तद्भवेदन्नं (amedhyaṃ tadbhavedannaṃ) — that food becomes impureवह अन्न अमेध्य (अपवित्र) हो जाता है·शूकरो जायते मृतः (śūkaro jāyate mṛtaḥ) — and when dead he is born a pigमरकर सूअर जन्मता है

एकग्रामस्थितः शिष्यः (ekagrāmasthitaḥ śiṣyaḥ) — a disciple living in the same villageएक गाँव में स्थित शिष्य·त्रिसन्ध्यं प्रणमेद् गुरुम् (trisandhyaṃ praṇamed gurum) — should bow to the guru at the three sandhyāsत्रिसन्ध्या गुरु को प्रणाम करे·क्रोशमात्रस्थितः शिष्यो (krośamātrasthitaḥ śiṣyo) — a disciple living a krośa awayएक कोस पर स्थित शिष्य·गुरुं प्रतिदिनं नमेत् (guruṃ pratidinaṃ namet) — should bow to the guru every dayगुरु को प्रतिदिन नमन करे

अर्द्धयोजनगः शिष्यः (arddhayojanagaḥ śiṣyaḥ) — a disciple half a yojana awayआधे योजन पर शिष्य·प्रणमेत् पञ्चपर्वसु (praṇamet pañcaparvasu) — should bow on the five parvansपाँच पर्वों पर प्रणाम करे·एकयोजनमारम्य (ekayojanamāramya) — beginning from one yojanaएक योजन से आरम्भ कर·योजनद्वादशावधि (yojanadvādaśāvadhi) — up to twelve yojanasबारह योजन तक

तत्संख्यादिवसैर्मासैः (tatsaṃkhyādivasairmāsaiḥ) — after that many days or monthsउतने दिनों या मासों में·श्रीगुरुं प्रणमेत् प्रिये (śrīguruṃ praṇamet priye) — one should bow to the Śrī-guru, O belovedश्रीगुरु को प्रणाम करे, हे प्रिये·दूरदेशस्थितः शिष्यो (dūradeśasthitaḥ śiṣyo) — a disciple living in a distant landदूर देश में स्थित शिष्य·भक्त्या तत्सन्निधिं गतः (bhaktyā tatsannidhiṃ gataḥ) — having come with devotion into his presenceभक्ति से उनके सन्निधान में आया

तत्र योजनसंख्योक्त- (tatra yojanasaṃkhyokta-) — there, by the stated count of yojanasवहाँ कहे योजन-संख्या के·मासेन प्रणमेद् गुरुम् (māsena praṇamed gurum) — in (as many) months should bow to the guruमासों में गुरु को प्रणाम करे·अतिदूरगतः शिष्यो (atidūragataḥ śiṣyo) — a disciple gone very far awayअति दूर गया शिष्य·यदिच्छा स्यात्तदा व्रजेत् (yadicchā syāttadā vrajet) — should go whenever he wishesजब इच्छा हो तब जाए

रिक्तहस्तश्च नोपेयात् (riktahastaśca nopeyāt) — one should not approach empty-handedरिक्त हाथ न जाए·राजानं देवतां गुरुम् (rājānaṃ devatāṃ gurum) — a king, a deity or the guruराजा, देवता, गुरु के पास·फलपुष्पाम्बरादीनि (phalapuṣpāmbarādīni) — fruit, flowers, cloth and the likeफल, पुष्प, वस्त्र आदि·यथाशक्त्या समर्पयेत् (yathāśaktyā samarpayet) — one should offer according to one's meansयथाशक्ति समर्पित करे

एवं यो न चरेद्देवि (evaṃ yo na careddevi) — he who does not act thus, O Devīजो ऐसा न करे, हे देवि·ब्रह्मराक्षसतां व्रजेत् (brahmarākṣasatāṃ vrajet) — becomes a brahmarākṣasaब्रह्मराक्षस हो जाता है·गुरुशक्तिश्च तत्पुत्रो (guruśaktiśca tatputro) — the guru's Śakti and his sonगुरु-शक्ति और उनका पुत्र·ज्येष्ठभ्राता गुरुः स्मृतः (jyeṣṭhabhrātā guruḥ smṛtaḥ) — and elder brother are held to be guruज्येष्ठ भ्राता गुरु माने गए

आत्मविच्च कनीयांसं (ātmavicca kanīyāṃsaṃ) — and the knower of the Self, the younger oneऔर आत्मवेत्ता कनिष्ठ को·पुत्रवत् परिपालयेत् (putravat paripālayet) — should cherish like a sonपुत्र की तरह पाले·कुलाचार्यस्य देवेशि (kulācāryasya deveśi) — of the Kula-ācārya, O queen of godsकुलाचार्य के, हे देवेशि·गुरुज्येष्ठकनिष्ठयोः (gurujyeṣṭhakaniṣṭhayoḥ) — of the guru's elder and younger (brothers)गुरु के ज्येष्ठ और कनिष्ठ (भ्राता) के·गुरुकल्पस्य कुर्वीत (gurukalpasya kurvīta) — and of one like the guru, one should makeगुरु-तुल्य के करे·प्रणामं स्वगुरोर्यथा (praṇāmaṃ svaguroryathā) — obeisance as to one's own guruप्रणाम अपने गुरु के समान

यागज्येष्ठः क्रमज्येष्ठः (yāgajyeṣṭhaḥ kramajyeṣṭhaḥ) — senior in sacrifice, senior in the kramaयाग-ज्येष्ठ, क्रम-ज्येष्ठ·कुलज्येष्ठस्तृतीयकः (kulajyeṣṭhastṛtīyakaḥ) — senior in the Kula, the thirdकुल-ज्येष्ठ तीसरा·गुरुज्येष्ठसुतो देवि (gurujyeṣṭhasuto devi) — the eldest son of the guru, O Devīगुरु का ज्येष्ठ पुत्र, हे देवि·इति ज्येष्ठचतुष्टयम् (iti jyeṣṭhacatuṣṭayam) — these are the four seniorsये चार ज्येष्ठ हैं

यागज्येष्ठाभिवादेन (yāgajyeṣṭhābhivādena) — by the salutation of the senior in sacrificeयाग-ज्येष्ठ के अभिवादन से·क्रमिकाष्टाङ्गयोगतः (kramikāṣṭāṅgayogataḥ) — through the eightfold yoga of the kramaक्रम के अष्टांग-योग से·गुरुश्च कुलवृक्षश्च (guruśca kulavṛkṣaśca) — the guru and the Kula-treeगुरु और कुलवृक्ष·वन्दनीयौ विधानतः (vandanīyau vidhānataḥ) — are to be saluted according to ruleविधान से वन्दनीय हैं

पितृमात्रादिसर्वेषु (pitṛmātrādisarveṣu) — among father, mother and allपिता, माता आदि सब·पूज्यकोटिषु बन्धुषु (pūjyakoṭiṣu bandhuṣu) — the kinsmen who count as venerableपूज्य-कोटि के बन्धुओं में·अभ्युत्थानप्रणामाद्यैः (abhyutthānapraṇāmādyaiḥ) — by rising to greet, bowing and the likeअभ्युत्थान, प्रणाम आदि से·अव्यक्तो दोषभाग्बहिः (avyakto doṣabhāgbahiḥ) — one not (yet) manifest (as ācārya) incurs no fault outsideअव्यक्त (आचार्य-रूप में अप्रकट) बाहर दोष का भागी नहीं

यदा त्वाचार्यरूपेण (yadā tvācāryarūpeṇa) — but when in the form of an ācāryaपर जब आचार्य-रूप में·चात्मानं सम्प्रकाशयेत् (cātmānaṃ samprakāśayet) — he manifests himselfअपने को प्रकाशित करे·अभ्युत्थानप्रणामाद्यैः (abhyutthānapraṇāmādyaiḥ) — by rising to greet, bowing and the likeअभ्युत्थान, प्रणाम आदि से·दोषभाक् स भवेत्तदा (doṣabhāk sa bhavettadā) — he then incurs faultतब वह दोष का भागी होता है

पतिर्भूत्वा पशुभ्यश्च (patirbhūtvā paśubhyaśca) — having become a lord, to paśusपति (स्वामी) होकर पशुओं को·प्रणामं यः करिष्यति (praṇāmaṃ yaḥ kariṣyati) — he who will make obeisanceजो प्रणाम करेगा·स महापशुरित्युक्तो (sa mahāpaśurityukto) — he is called a great paśuवह महापशु कहा गया·देवताशापमाप्नुयात् (devatāśāpamāpnuyāt) — and incurs the curse of the deitiesदेवताओं का शाप पाता है

यो गुरुस्थानकं प्राप्तः (yo gurusthānakaṃ prāptaḥ) — he who has attained the guru's stationजो गुरु-स्थान को प्राप्त है·पादुकापरिसंख्यया (pādukāparisaṃkhyayā) — by the count of the pādukāपादुका की संख्या से·गुरुवत् स तु मन्तव्यो (guruvat sa tu mantavyo) — he is to be regarded as guruवह गुरु के समान माना जाए·ज्येष्ठैर्वन्द्यो न च प्रिये (jyeṣṭhairvandyo na ca priye) — but not to be saluted by the seniors, O belovedपर ज्येष्ठों द्वारा वन्द्य नहीं, हे प्रिये

इति ते कथितं किञ्चित् (iti te kathitaṃ kiñcit) — thus something has been told to youइस प्रकार तुम्हें कुछ कहा गया·पादुकाभक्तिलक्षणम् (pādukābhaktilakṣaṇam) — of the marks of devotion to the pādukāपादुका-भक्ति के लक्षण·समासेन कुलेशानि (samāsena kuleśāni) — in brief, O Lady of the Kulaसंक्षेप में, हे कुलेशानि·किं भूयः श्रोतुमिच्छसि (kiṃ bhūyaḥ śrotumicchasi) — what more do you wish to hearऔर क्या सुनना चाहती हो
