Learning to read the Durga Saptashati in Sanskrit with a word-separated edition
Split words prevent pronunciation faults
For new sadhaks, men and women, who want to learn the path of the Shri Durga Saptashati in Sanskrit, the speaker recommends the simple (saral) Durga Saptashati published by Gita Press Gorakhpur, which prints every verse with its joined words split apart. He says that when words are printed joined together, beginners who have not practised much Sanskrit cannot tell where to break them and make pronunciation faults (uchcharan dosh); with the split text, practising slowly, they become able to do the whole path well, including the tantrokta paths it contains. He says he is not paid for this; it is for dharma.
The speaker addresses new sadhaks and sadhikas who want to learn the path of the Shri Durga Saptashati in Sanskrit. For them, he says, the simple Shri Durga Saptashati published by Gita Press Gorakhpur is a very good initiative: the mantras are given split apart word by word (vichchhed), so reading becomes easy. Often, he explains, when the words of a mantra are written joined together, people who have not practised Sanskrit much cannot read them and pronunciation faults creep in. He reads examples from the split text. From the third adhyaya, the one about Mahishasura, where beginners often stumble when reading it all at once: करेण च महासिंहं तं चकर्ष जगर्ज च. From the sixth adhyaya: हे धूम्रलोचनाशु त्वं स्वसैन्यपरिवारितः । तामानय बलाद् दुष्टां केशाकर्षणविह्वलाम्. And from the eleventh: नन्दगोपगृहे जाता यशोदागर्भसम्भवा । ततस्तौ नाशयिष्यामि विन्ध्याचलनिवासिनी. The whole Saptashati, he says, is given this way, and the tantrokta paths in it are given very well. His advice: order the book online or buy it wherever Gita Press books are sold, and start the path with it, practising slowly; you will become well able to do the path and, learning pronunciation, progress on the Sanatan path for your own good. He adds that this is not a paid promotion — Gita Press has paid nothing — and is done for dharma, so that Sanatanis can benefit from the text.
