Chapter Six·The Slaying of Dhūmralocana·Verses 1–24
The messenger goes back to Śumbha and tells him everything the Devī said. Śumbha is furious. He sends his general Dhūmralocana with sixty thousand demons, telling him to drag her back by the hair and to kill anyone, god or not, who tries to protect her. Dhūmralocana finds the Devī on the snowy mountain and orders her to come to Śumbha, or be dragged. She answers calmly that if a strong demon with a big army takes her by force, what can she do. He rushes at her, and with a single "huṃ" she burns him to ash. His army attacks with arrows, spears and axes. Her lion shakes its mane, roars and leaps among them, tearing them with claws, jaws and blows of its paws, and soon the whole army is gone. Hearing this, Śumbha trembles with rage and sends Caṇḍa and Muṇḍa with a great army, telling them to bring the Devī back by the hair or in chains, or kill her with every weapon if needed.

Om. I meditate on the supreme Padmāvatī. She sits on the king of serpents. Her slender body shines with the great rows of gems on the serpents' hoods. She is bright as the sun and lit by three eyes. In her hands are a rosary, a pot, a skull and a lotus. The half-moon is her crown. She rests in the lap of Bhairava, the all-knowing Lord.
