Brahmā continues his tale to Nārada: as the gods and sages set off in festivity for Dakṣa's sacrifice, Satī, at play on Mount Gandhamādana, notices the moon passing with Rohiṇī and learns from him of the great sacrifice under way. Puzzled that her own father has sent her no word, she goes to Śiva to ask the reason. Śiva explains that Dakṣa has grown especially hostile toward him, and that only the foolish and unwise have gone to the sacrifice; he counsels that neither of them should go where they are not welcome, since an uninvited guest meets only dishonour, and a kinsman's harsh word wounds deeper than an enemy's arrow. Satī, roused to anger, presses Śiva all the more to let her go and learn her father's mind for herself, and Śiva relents, sending her off on the bull Nandī with full royal honour and sixty thousand rejoicing gaṇas in escort, amid great festivity and splendour.
