Brahmā continues his account to Nārada: Satī, entering her father's sacrifice alone and unwelcomed even by Dakṣa, sees every god given a share but finds none set aside for Śiva, and, burning with anger, rebukes Viṣṇu, Brahmā, Indra, and the assembled gods and sages in turn for accepting a sacrifice that excludes their own lord, reminding each of what he owes to Śiva's power. Dakṣa answers with contempt, telling her she has no business there and calling Rudra unfit and ill-omened; enraged afresh, Satī resolves to give up her body, and after briefly counselling that a reviler of Śiva be silenced or shunned, falls to grief and remembers Śiva's own words. She then turns on Dakṣa and the assembly once more, declaring at length Śiva's true, unassailable greatness, cursing the birth that has bound her to a father who reviles him, and warning the gods and sages of the punishment that awaits them — before falling silent and turning her heart inward to Śambhu.

"O gods, O sages, all of you, hear my word: this deed of yours, you of wicked mind, is wholly improper.

All of you are utterly deluded, lovers of strife, revilers of Śiva; you shall all surely and certainly receive your full punishment from Hara."

Having thus spoken to Dakṣa at that sacrifice, Satī then fell silent, and, turning within, called to mind Śambhu, her own life's beloved.
