Chapter Ten·The Dialogue of Brahmā and Viṣṇu·Verses 1–61
Brahmā tells Nārada what happened after Kāma's crestfallen return: humbled and grieving, Brahmā called Viṣṇu to mind with devotion, and Viṣṇu appeared and asked the cause of his sorrow. Brahmā confessed the whole story — his own past lapse of looking with desire on his daughter, Śiva's public rebuke of him for it, and his hope that if Śiva himself took a wife his own grief would be healed. Viṣṇu, laughing, gently rebukes Brahmā's confusion in thinking Rudra an ordinary son, and sets out at length who Śiva truly is — supreme, unqualified, beyond the three guṇas even while called Brahmā, Viṣṇu and Maheśa. Viṣṇu then advises that Brahmā's daughter Śivā must herself take human birth and become Śiva's bride through austerity, and, having consulted Śiva directly, recounts the secret Śiva once revealed: that just as Viṣṇu took Lakṣmī and Brahmā took Sarasvatī, Śiva's own consort will be born as Satī, and Dakṣa must now be set to the task of bringing her into being.

O lord of creatures, Śivā herself shall become incarnate under the name Satī; for her birth, then, effort must indeed be made.

Here ends the tenth chapter — "The Dialogue of Brahmā and Viṣṇu" — in the second section, of Satī, of the second Saṃhitā, that of Rudra, of the venerable Śiva Mahāpurāṇa.
