बिभीषन पर सक्ति
Seeing the dreadful spear come, Rāma recalls his vow to destroy the distress of those who take refuge. He thrusts Vibhīṣaṇa behind him and himself bears that spear. It strikes, and for a moment he seems faint, a play the Lord has made that distresses the gods. Seeing the Lord hurt, Vibhīṣaṇa takes up his mace in anger and runs at Rāvaṇa. He calls him a wretch, a fool, a base-minded one, who has opposed gods, men, sages and serpents. 'You placed your heads on Śiva with devotion and got crores for each; that is why you have lived till now, and now Death dances on your head. You want wealth while turned from Rāma!' So saying he strikes Rāvaṇa in the middle of the chest with the mace. Rāvaṇa falls to the ground, then rises, blood flowing from his ten mouths, and runs at him in rage. The two grapple in a fierce wrestling match; Vibhīṣaṇa, proud of the strength of Raghubīra, does not even count that blow. Śiva says: Umā, did Vibhīṣaṇa ever look Rāvaṇa in the face? Now he fights him like Death, such is the power of Raghubīra.भयंकर शक्ति को आता देखकर राम ने अपना प्रण याद किया कि शरण में आए का दुख दूर करना है। उन्होंने विभीषण को तुरंत पीछे कर दिया और स्वयं सामने से वह शक्ति सह ली। शक्ति लगते ही उन्हें कुछ मूर्छा-सी हुई; प्रभु ने यह खेल रचा और देवता व्याकुल हो गए। प्रभु को श्रम पाया देखकर विभीषण क्रुद्ध होकर गदा हाथ में लेकर दौड़े। उन्होंने कहा, 'अरे अभागे, मूर्ख, मंदबुद्धि, तूने देवता, मनुष्य, मुनि और नागों से बैर किया। तूने आदर से शिव पर अपने सिर चढ़ाए और एक-एक के बदले करोड़ों पाए; इसी कारण दुष्ट तू अब तक बचा रहा, पर अब काल तेरे सिर पर नाच रहा है। राम से विमुख होकर तू संपत्ति चाहता है!' यह कहकर उन्होंने रावण की छाती के बीच गदा मारी। छाती में घोर कठोर गदा की चोट लगते ही रावण धरती पर गिर पड़ा; फिर दसों मुखों से रक्त बहाते हुए सँभलकर क्रोध से भरा दौड़ा। दोनों अति बलवान मल्लयुद्ध में भिड़े और एक-दूसरे पर प्रहार करने लगे। रघुवीर के बल से गर्वित विभीषण उसे कुछ गिनते ही नहीं। शिव कहते हैं, 'उमा, क्या विभीषण कभी रावण के सामने देख सकते थे? वही आज काल की तरह उससे भिड़ रहे हैं; यही श्रीरघुवीर का प्रभाव है।'

बड़ी भयंकर शक्ति को आता देखकर राम ने याद किया, 'शरणागत की पीड़ा हरना मेरा प्रण है।' उन्होंने तुरंत विभीषण को पीछे कर दिया, और राम ने स्वयं सामने से वह शक्ति सह ली।
Seeing the dreadful spear come, he remembered, 'It is my vow to destroy the pain of those who take refuge.' At once he pushed Vibhīṣaṇa behind him, and Rāma himself bore the spear in front.

शक्ति लगी और राम को कुछ मूर्छा-सी हुई; प्रभु ने यह खेल रचा था, जिससे देवता व्याकुल हो गए। प्रभु को श्रम पाया देखकर विभीषण क्रुद्ध होकर गदा हाथ में लेकर दौड़े।
The spear struck, and for a moment he seemed faint: a play the Lord had made, which distressed the gods. Seeing the Lord hurt, Vibhīṣaṇa, angry, took up his mace and ran.

३3रे कुभाग्य सठ मंद कुबुद्धे। तैं सुर नर मुनि नाग बिरुद्धे ॥सादर सिव कहुँ सीस चढ़ाए। एक एक के कोटिन्ह पाए ॥

'अरे अभागे, मूर्ख, मंदबुद्धि, कुबुद्धि, तूने देवता, मनुष्य, मुनि और नागों से बैर किया। तूने आदर से शिव को अपने सिर चढ़ाए और एक-एक के बदले करोड़ों पाए।
'You unlucky fool, base-minded and evil of thought, you set yourself against gods, men, sages and serpents. With reverence you offered your heads to Śiva and got crores for each one.

इसी कारण दुष्ट तू अब तक बचा रहा, पर अब काल तेरे सिर पर नाच रहा है। राम से विमुख होकर, मूर्ख, तू संपत्ति चाहता है!' यह कहकर उन्होंने उसकी छाती के बीच में गदा मारी।
That is why you, wretch, have lived till now; but now Death dances on your head. Turned away from Rāma, fool, you want wealth!' So saying he struck him with his mace in the middle of the chest.

छाती में गदा का घोर कठोर प्रहार लगा और वह धरती पर गिर पड़ा। दशमुख फिर संभलकर उठा, उसके मुखों से रक्त बह रहा था, और वह क्रोध से भरा दौड़ा। दोनों अति बलवान मल्लयुद्ध में भिड़े और एक-दूसरे पर प्रहार करने लगे। रघुवीर के बल से गर्वित विभीषण उस प्रहार को कुछ गिनते ही नहीं थे।
The terrible, hard blow of the mace on his chest struck, and he fell to the ground. Ten-faced Rāvaṇa rose again, blood streaming from his mouths, steadied himself and ran full of rage. The two very strong ones grappled in a wrestling-match, each striking the other; Vibhīṣaṇa, proud of Raghubīra's strength, did not even count that blow.
