मेघनाद का वध
The monkeys find Meghanāda seated offering blood and buffalo in the fire. They wreck the sacrifice, and when he will not rise they drag him by the hair and kick him. He rushes out with a trident, the monkeys flee to Lakṣmaṇa, and he comes in great anger, roaring. He fells Hanumān and Aṅgada with the trident, and hurls a fierce spear at the Lord, which Lakṣmaṇa cuts in two with arrows. The two rise and strike him, but he feels no blow. Lakṣmaṇa looses fearsome arrows; seeing one come like a thunderbolt, he vanishes, and fights in many guises, now seen, now hidden. Seeing the foe unconquerable, the monkeys fear and Śeṣa's incarnation grows very angry. Lakṣmaṇa tells himself he has let this sinner play long enough, remembers the Lord of Kosala's power, takes aim boldly and looses an arrow that strikes his chest. At the time of death he gives up all his deceit, cries 'Where is Rāma's brother, where is Rāma?' and gives up his life. Aṅgada and Hanumān say: blessed is your mother.वानर जाकर देखते हैं कि मेघनाद बैठा हुआ रक्त और भैंसे की आहुति दे रहा है। वे सारा यज्ञ विध्वंस कर देते हैं, और जब वह नहीं उठता तो उसके बाल पकड़कर घसीटते और लातें मारकर भाग जाते हैं। वह त्रिशूल लेकर दौड़ता है, वानर भागकर वहाँ आते हैं जहाँ लक्ष्मण आगे हैं। वह अत्यन्त क्रोध करके आता है और बार-बार घोर गर्जना करता है। हनुमान और अंगद उस पर दौड़ते हैं तो वह त्रिशूल की चोट से उन्हें छाती पर मारकर गिरा देता है। फिर वह प्रभु पर प्रचंड शूल छोड़ता है, जिसे लक्ष्मण बाणों से काटकर दो टुकड़े कर देते हैं। हनुमान और अंगद फिर उठकर उसे मारते हैं पर उसे चोट नहीं लगती। वे लौटते हैं क्योंकि शत्रु मारे नहीं मरता; तब वह चिंघाड़कर दौड़ता है। उसे क्रुद्ध काल की तरह आता देख लक्ष्मण भयंकर बाण छोड़ते हैं; वज्र जैसे बाण आते देख वह तुरंत अदृश्य हो जाता है। वह अनेक रूप धरकर लड़ता है, कभी प्रकट, कभी छिप जाता है। शत्रु को अजेय देखकर वानर डर जाते हैं और अहिराज शेष के अंश लक्ष्मण बहुत क्रुद्ध होते हैं। लक्ष्मण मन में दृढ़ विचार करते हैं कि इस पापी को मैंने बहुत खेलाया। कोसलपति के प्रताप को स्मरण करके वे दर्प से बाण का संधान करते हैं; बाण छूटकर बीच छाती में लगता है और मरते समय मेघनाद सारा कपट छोड़ देता है। वह कहकर प्राण छोड़ता है, 'राम के भाई कहाँ हैं, राम कहाँ हैं?' अंगद और हनुमान कहते हैं, 'तुम्हारी माता धन्य है, धन्य है।'

वानरों ने जाकर देखा कि वह बैठा हुआ रक्त और भैंसे की आहुति दे रहा है। उन्होंने सारा यज्ञ नष्ट कर दिया, और जब वह नहीं उठा तो उसकी प्रशंसा करने लगे।
The monkeys went and saw him seated, offering blood and buffalo in the fire. They wrecked the whole sacrifice, and when he would not rise they began to praise him.

फिर भी वह नहीं उठा, तब उन्होंने उसके बाल पकड़े और बार-बार लात मारकर भाग चले। वह त्रिशूल लेकर दौड़ा, और वानर भागकर वहाँ आए जहाँ रामानुज आगे खड़े थे।
Still he would not rise, so they seized him by the hair, kicked him again and again and ran off. He took a trident and ran at them, and the monkeys fled to where Rāma's younger brother stood in front.

वह बड़े क्रोध से आया और बार-बार घोर गर्जना की। हनुमान और अंगद क्रोध करके उस पर दौड़े, पर उसने त्रिशूल से छाती पर मारकर उन्हें गिरा दिया।
He came in great anger, roaring his terrible roar again and again. Hanumān and Aṅgada ran at him in fury, but he struck them on the chest with the trident and brought them down.

उसने प्रभु पर प्रचंड शूल छोड़ा, पर अनंत के अवतार ने बाण मारकर उसके दो टुकड़े कर दिए। हनुमान और युवराज फिर उठे और क्रोध से उसे मारा, पर उस पर कोई चोट नहीं लगी।
He hurled a fierce spear at the Lord, but Ananta's incarnation cut it in two with arrows. Hanumān and the prince rose again and struck him in anger, yet no blow told on him.

५5फिरे बीर रिपु मरइ न मारा। तब धावा करि घोर चिकारा ॥आवत देखि क्रुद्ध जनु काला। लछिमन छाड़े बिसिख कराला ॥

The heroes turned back, for the foe did not die by their blows. Then, with a terrible cry, he ran at them. Seeing him come like angry Death, Lakṣmaṇa loosed fearsome arrows.

शत्रु को अजेय देखकर वानर डर गए, तब सर्पों के राजा शेष के अंश लक्ष्मण बहुत क्रुद्ध हुए। लक्ष्मण ने मन में यह दृढ़ विचार किया: 'मैंने इस पापी को बहुत खेलाया।'
Seeing the foe unconquerable, the monkeys grew afraid, and the lord of serpents became very angry. Lakṣmaṇa fixed this firm thought in his mind: 'I have let this sinner play long enough.'

८8सुमिरि कोसलाधीस प्रतापा। सर संधान कीन्ह करि दापा ॥छाड़ा बान माझ उर लागा। मरती बार कपटु सब त्यागा ॥

Remembering the might of the Lord of Kosala, he took aim with a bold heart. The arrow he loosed struck him in the middle of the chest, and at the moment of death he gave up all his deceit.

'रामानुज कहाँ हैं? राम कहाँ हैं?' ऐसा कहकर उसने प्राण छोड़ दिए। अंगद और हनुमान ने कहा, 'तुम्हारी माता धन्य है, धन्य है।'
'Where is Rāma's brother? Where is Rāma?' So saying he gave up his life. Aṅgada and Hanumān said, 'Blessed, blessed is your mother.'
