Rāma sets out with his bow in hand and quiver at his waist to crush the enemy. First he twangs the bowstring, and the enemy host goes deaf at the sound. The Lord of true vows looses hundreds of thousands of arrows, which go like winged black serpents and cut down the fearsome pisācas. Limbs are cut and many warriors fall in a hundred pieces. The wounded reel and fall, then rise and fight again. Headless trunks run about shouting 'seize, kill'. The arrows struck with a sound like thunder, and many, seeing the hard shafts, fled. Great headless trunks ran about, shouting 'Seize, seize! Kill, kill!'
