Hanumān and Aṅgada bow at the Lord's feet, and Rāma is pleased to see such warriors. He looks kindly at the two and their weariness goes. Knowing they have left the fort, the bears and monkeys turn back. The demons, finding strength at dusk, run up crying Rāvaṇa's name. The two sides, equal in strength, challenge each other and neither admits defeat. The demons are black and the monkeys of many colours, and they fight in anger as if in play, like autumn and rainy-season clouds driven by the wind. The demon commanders Akampana and Atikāya make magic, and the army wavers. In a moment it is very dark, with a rain of blood, stones and ashes. Seeing the darkness in all ten directions, the monkey army is troubled, and they cannot see one another and cry out here and there.हनुमान और अंगद ने प्रभु के चरण-कमलों में सिर नवाया और ऐसे वीरों को देखकर रघुपति का मन प्रसन्न हुआ। राम ने कृपा करके दोनों को देखा और वे थकान भूलकर परम सुखी हो गए। अंगद और हनुमान को गया जानकर भालू और वानर योद्धा लौट पड़े। राक्षसों ने सायंकाल का बल पाकर दशशीश की दुहाई देते हुए धावा बोला। राक्षसों की सेना देखकर वानर लौटे, और जहाँ-तहाँ दाँत किटकिटाकर योद्धा भिड़ गए। दोनों दल प्रबल थे, ललकार-ललकारकर लड़ते थे और कोई हार नहीं मानता था। सब राक्षस महावीर और काले थे, वानर तरह-तरह के रंग के और भारी। दोनों दल बलवान, योद्धा बराबर के, खेल करते और क्रोध करके लड़ते थे, जैसे वर्षा और शरद के बहुत से बादल हवा के प्रेरे लड़ते हों। सेनापति अकम्पन और अतिकाय ने माया की, और सेना डोलने लगी। पल भर में बहुत अँधेरा हो गया, रक्त, पत्थर और राख की वर्षा होने लगी। दसों दिशाओं में घना अँधेरा देखकर वानर-दल घबरा गया; एक-दूसरे को न देखकर वे जहाँ-तहाँ पुकारने लगे।
१1प्रभु पद कमल सीस तिन्ह नाए। देखि सुभट रघुपति मन भाए ॥राम कृपा करि जुगल निहारे। भए बिगतश्रम परम सुखारे ॥

उन्होंने प्रभु के चरण-कमलों में सिर नवाया और ऐसे वीरों को देखकर रघुपति का मन प्रसन्न हुआ। राम ने कृपा करके दोनों को देखा और वे थकान से मुक्त होकर परम सुखी हो गए।
They bowed their heads at the Lord's lotus feet, and Raghupati was pleased to see such warriors. Rāma looked kindly at the pair, and they were free of their weariness and very happy.

२2गए जानि अंगद हनुमाना। फिरे भालु मर्कट भट नाना ॥जातुधान प्रदोष बल पाई। धाए करि दससीस दोहाई ॥

अंगद और हनुमान को गया जानकर भालू और वानर योद्धा लौट पड़े। राक्षसों ने सायंकाल का बल पाकर दशशीश की दुहाई देते हुए धावा किया।
Knowing that Aṅgada and Hanumān had gone, the bears and monkey warriors turned back. The demons, getting the strength of dusk, ran up crying the name of the ten-headed one.

राक्षसों की सेना देखकर वानर लौटे, और जहाँ-तहाँ दाँत किटकिटाकर योद्धा भिड़ गए। दोनों प्रबल दल ललकार-ललकारकर लड़ते थे और कोई हार नहीं मानता था।
Seeing the demon host, the monkeys turned, and here and there the warriors gnashed their teeth and met in fight. The two strong armies challenged each other and fought, and neither would admit defeat.

४4महाबीर निसिचर सब कारे। नाना बरन बलीमुख भारे ॥सबल जुगल दल समबल जोधा। कौतुक करत लरत करि क्रोधा ॥

All the demons were great heroes and black, and the monkeys of many colours and huge. The two armies were strong, the warriors equal, and they fought in anger as if in sport.

They fought like many rainy-season and autumn clouds driven by the wind. The commanders Akampana and Atikāya made magic, and the army wavered.

दसों दिशाओं में घना अँधेरा देखकर वानर-दल घबरा गया। वे एक-दूसरे को नहीं देख पाते थे और जहाँ-तहाँ पुकारने लगे।
Seeing thick darkness in all ten directions, the monkey army was troubled. They could not see one another, and cried out here and there.
