One arrow dries the pool of the navel; the others strike arms and heads in anger. Taking heads and arms, the iron arrows fly off; the headless, armless trunk dances on the ground. It sinks the earth as it runs fiercely; then the Lord strikes it with an arrow and cuts it in two. As he dies he roars: 'Where is Rāma? I will call him out and kill him.' The earth shakes at the fall of the ten-necked one; the sea, rivers, elephants of the quarters and mountains are stirred. Falling, he makes two halves and presses bears and monkeys. Mandodarī sees the heads and arms go ahead of her, with arrows, to where the Lord of the world is; they all enter the quiver, and seeing it the gods beat drums. His brightness enters the Lord's face, and Śambhu and Brahmā are glad to see it. The cry of victory fills the universe: 'Victory to Raghubīra of mighty arms.' Gods and sages rain flowers: 'Victory to the merciful, victory, Mukunda.' A hymn follows: victory to the treasure of mercy, Mukunda, who removes the pairs of opposites, gives happiness to those who take refuge, destroys the wicked, ultimate cause, ever compassionate and all-pervading. The gods rain flowers gladly, drums sound loudly, and Rāma's body in the field of battle has the beauty of many Anaṅgas. His matted hair with the crown, flowers in between, are very lovely, as if stars with lightning shone over a blue mountain. As he turns arrows and bow in his arms, the drops of blood on his body look like ruby-coloured birds sitting on a tamāla tree in great joy. Looking with kindness, the Lord freed the crowds of gods from fear, and the bears and monkeys all rejoiced: 'Victory to Mukunda, abode of joy.'
