Sugrīva sends Nīla, Aṅgada, Hanumān and Jāmbavān to the south. He tells them to work out in thought, word and deed how to finish Rāma's task, and to serve their master without any deceit, and says that the fruit of having a body is to worship Rāma. They take leave and go. Hanumān comes last. Rāma, knowing the task is his, calls him near, touches his head, and gives him his ring to carry to Sītā, with a message of his strength and his longing. Hanumān counts his birth fulfilled. All the monkeys go searching rivers, ponds, hills and caves, forgetting their own bodies.
