Chapter 24 · Thirst and the cave · Verses 1–

The monkeys search hills and forests, killing any demon they meet with one blow and gathering round any sage. Thirst overcomes them and they find no water, and Hanumān fears they will all die. From a mountain peak he sees a cave in the ground with water birds flying into it. He brings the rest, and they enter with Hanumān in front. Inside they find a lovely garden, a lake of open lotuses, and a beautiful house where a woman sits, full of austerity.
