नारद द्वारा सती की कथा
Nārada then explained to all, telling the old story: listen, Mainā, to my true word: your daughter Bhavānī is Jagadambā. She is unborn, beginningless, indestructible power, always dwelling in Śambhu's half, who creates, preserves and ends the world, and takes a body in play by her own will. She was first born in Dakṣa's house, named Satī with a beautiful body, and as Satī married Śaṅkara; that story is famous in the world. Once, coming with Śiva, she saw Rāma, the sun to the lotus of the Raghus, and was deluded, did not do as Śiva said, and in error took Sītā's form. For this offence Śaṅkara gave her up; in grief at Hara's separation she went to her father's sacrifice and burned in the fire of yoga. Now born in your house, she did harsh penance for her own husband. Knowing this, give up doubt: Girijā is always Śaṅkara's beloved. Hearing Nārada, everyone's grief was gone, and in a moment the news spread through the whole city.नारद ने सबको समझाकर पहले की कथा सुनाई: हे मैना, तुम्हारी पुत्री भवानी जगदम्बा है; वह अजन्मा, अनादि, अविनाशी शक्ति है, सदा शम्भु के अर्धांग में रहती है, जगत् की रचना, पालन और संहार करती है और अपनी इच्छा से लीला के लिए शरीर धरती है। वह पहले दक्ष के घर सती नाम से जन्मी और शंकर से ब्याही। एक बार शिव के साथ आते हुए उसने रघुकुल के कमल के सूर्य रामचन्द्र को देखा, मोह में पड़कर शिव का कहा न माना और सीता का वेष धर लिया। इसी अपराध से शंकर ने उसे त्याग दिया; हर के वियोग में वह पिता के यज्ञ में जाकर योगाग्नि में जल गई। अब तुम्हारे घर जन्मकर उसने अपने पति के लिए कठोर तप किया। यह जानकर संदेह छोड़ो: गिरिजा सदा शंकर की प्रिया है। नारद के वचन सुनकर सबका विषाद मिट गया और क्षण भर में यह समाचार सारे नगर में घर-घर फैल गया।

वह अजन्मा, अनादि और अविनाशी शक्ति है, जो सदा शम्भु के अर्धांग में निवास करती है। वह जगत् की उत्पत्ति, पालन और संहार करने वाली है और अपनी इच्छा से लीला के लिए शरीर धारण करती है।
She is unborn, beginningless, indestructible power, forever dwelling in Śambhu's half. She makes, keeps and ends the world, and by her own will takes a body in play.

वह पहले दक्ष के घर जन्मी और सती नाम से सुन्दर शरीर पाया। वहाँ भी सती का विवाह शंकर से हुआ; यह कथा सारे जगत् में प्रसिद्ध है।
She was first born in Dakṣa's house, and as Satī gained a lovely body. There too Satī married Śaṅkara; that story is famous in the whole world.

४4एक बार आवत सिव संगा। देखेउ रघुकुल कमल पतंगा ॥भयउ मोहु सिव कहा न कीन्हा। भ्रम बस बेषु सीय कर लीन्हा ॥

एक बार शिव के साथ आते हुए उन्होंने रघुकुल रूपी कमल के सूर्य रामचन्द्र को देखा। उन्हें मोह हुआ; उन्होंने शिव का कहा नहीं माना और भ्रम में पड़कर सीता का वेष धर लिया।
Once, as she was coming with Śiva, she saw Rāma, the sun to the lotus of the Raghus' line. She was deluded, did not do what Śiva had said, and in error took Sītā's form.

सती ने जो सीता का वेष धरा था, उसी अपराध के कारण शंकर ने उन्हें त्याग दिया। फिर हर के वियोग में वे पिता के यज्ञ में गईं और योगाग्नि में जल गईं। अब तुम्हारे घर जन्म लेकर उन्होंने अपने पति के लिए कठोर तप किया है। यह जानकर संदेह त्याग दो: गिरिजा सदा शंकर की प्रिया हैं।
For the offence of taking Sītā's form, Śaṅkara gave her up. Then in grief at separation from Hara, she went to her father's sacrifice and burned in the fire of yoga. Now born in your house, she did harsh penance for her own husband. Knowing this, give up your doubt: Girijā is forever dear to Śaṅkara.
