Mainā and Himālaya are glad and bow again and again at Pārvatī's feet. Women, men, children, the young and old of the city are all very happy. Auspicious songs begin, golden jars are set out, and many kinds of dishes are cooked as the cookery books say. That feast cannot be told, in the house where Mother Bhavānī lives. All the wedding guests are called with respect: Viṣṇu, Brahmā and the gods of every kind. They sit in many rows and skilled cooks begin to serve. Seeing the gods at table, the women begin to tease them with gentle voice; beautiful women sing sweet teasing songs with barbed words, and the gods eat very slowly, enjoying the fun. The joy that rose as they ate cannot be told with millions of mouths. When they had been given pan to rinse, each went to his lodging. Then the sages came and told Himālaya the wedding hour, and seeing the time, he sent for the gods.
