Chapter 48·Śiva and Satī at Agastya's hermitage·Verses 1–
Once in the Tretā age Śambhu went to the sage Kumbhaja, Agastya. With him went Satī, the mother of the world, Bhavānī, and the sage worshipped them, knowing them as lords of all. The great sage told Rāma's story and Maheśa heard it with great joy. The sage asked about the lovely devotion to Hari, and Śambhu told it, finding him fit. Telling and hearing the story of Raghupati's virtues, the lord of the mountain stayed there some days. Then, taking leave of the sage, the destroyer of Tripura set out home with the daughter of Dakṣa. At that time Hari had taken birth in the line of Raghu to break the earth's load. Leaving his kingdom at his father's word and dispassionate, the undying one wandered in the Daṇḍaka forest. The first dohā says that Hara went thinking in his heart how he might see the Lord, who had come in hidden form, so that all might not know. The soraṭhā says that Śaṅkara had great longing in his heart, while Satī did not know the secret; and Tulasī says his mind is full of desire to see, but fear is in his eyes.
