Chapter 338 · Sītā leaves in her palanquin · Verses 1–

The parrots and mynas Sītā raised and taught in golden cages cry in distress, asking where Vaidehī has gone, and hearing it no one keeps calm. Birds and beasts are in such distress; how can the state of men be told? Janaka comes with his brother, his eyes full of tears. Seeing Sītā, his firmness runs away, though he was known as a great renouncer. The king takes Jānakī to his heart, and the bounds of his knowledge are broken. The wise ministers try to console him, but he cannot think, not knowing the hour. Again and again he presses his daughter to him, and fine palanquins are brought. Knowing the family is overcome with love, and the hour is right, the king seats the princesses in the palanquins, remembering Siddhi and Gaṇeśa.
