अस कहि रही चरन गहि रानी
So saying, the queen holds his feet, her words sunk as if in a mire of love. Hearing her loving words, Rāma honours his mother-in-law in many ways. With folded hands he asks leave and bows again and again. Having her blessing, he bows his head again and goes with his brothers. Taking his sweet form into their hearts, all the queens grow faint with love. Then taking heart, they call the princesses, and the mothers embrace them again and again. They see them off, return and meet them again, and their love grows. Again and again they pull the friends apart as they cling, like cows parted from calves. The men and women, with the women's quarters and the friends, are so overcome that it seems the city of Videha has made grief and separation its home.ऐसा कहकर रानी चरण पकड़े रहीं, मानो वाणी प्रेम के कीचड़ में समा गई हो। स्नेह में सनी यह श्रेष्ठ वाणी सुनकर राम ने अनेक प्रकार से सास का सम्मान किया। राम ने हाथ जोड़कर विदा माँगी और बार-बार प्रणाम किया। फिर आशीर्वाद पाकर सिर नवाया और भाइयों सहित रघुनाथ चल पड़े। उनकी सुन्दर, मधुर मूर्ति हृदय में लाकर सब रानियाँ स्नेह से शिथिल हो गईं। फिर धीरज धरकर उन्होंने कुमारियों को बुलाया और माताएँ बार-बार उनसे मिलती हैं। उन्हें पहुँचाने जाती हैं, लौटकर फिर मिलती हैं; दोनों ओर प्रीति कम नहीं बढ़ी। सखियों से बार-बार मिलते हुए उन्हें अलग किया जाता है, जैसे गाय को बछड़े से अलग करके ले जाया जाए। सब स्त्री-पुरुष, सखियों सहित रनिवास प्रेम के वश ऐसे हैं मानो विदेह नगर ने करुणा और विरह को अपना निवास बना लिया हो।
