In many ways the king explained to his daughters a wife's duty and the customs of the family, and gave them many maids and menservants, the pure attendants dear to Sītā. As Sītā leaves, the townspeople are in distress, and auspicious signs appear in plenty. The Brahmins and ministers go with the king to see them off. At the right moment the instruments sound, and chariots, elephants and horses are made ready for the guests. Daśaratha calls the Brahmins and gives them gifts and honour in full. Putting the dust of their feet on his head and getting their blessing, the king, glad, remembers Gaṇeśa and sets out, and many lucky signs appear.
