उदउ अरुन अवलोकहु ताता

Rāma goes on: the moon waxes and wanes, pains separated lovers, is swallowed by Rāhu when he finds its weak point, gives grief to the chakravāka and is the enemy of the lotus. To compare Vaidehī's face with it would be a great fault. Having described the beauty of Sītā's face under pretext of the moon, he goes to the guru, knowing the night is far gone. He bows at the sage's feet, rests with his leave, and wakes when the night has passed. He tells his brother to see the red dawn rising, giver of joy to lotuses, chakravākas and the world. Lakṣmaṇa, with folded hands, answers in gentle words that hint at the Lord's power: at sunrise the night lilies close and the stars dim, as kings lost strength on hearing of Rāma's coming. चंद्रमा घटता-बढ़ता है, विरहिणी स्त्रियों को दुख देता है, राहु अपनी संधि पाकर उसे ग्रस लेता है; वह चकवे को शोक देने वाला और कमल का द्रोही है। हे चंद्रमा, तुझमें बहुत अवगुण हैं। वैदेही के मुख की तुलना तुझसे करने पर बड़ा दोष लगेगा और यह बहुत अनुचित होगा। इस प्रकार चंद्रमा के बहाने सीता के मुख की छवि बखानकर, रात बहुत बीती जानकर राम गुरु के पास चले। मुनि के चरण-कमलों में प्रणाम करके, आज्ञा पाकर विश्राम किया। रात बीती तो रघुनायक जागे और भाई को देखकर कहने लगे: 'हे तात, देखो, अरुणोदय हो रहा है, जो कमलों, चकवों और संसार को सुख देने वाला है।' लक्ष्मण ने हाथ जोड़कर प्रभु का प्रभाव सूचित करने वाली मृदु वाणी में कहा: अरुणोदय होने पर कुमुद सकुचा गए और तारों की ज्योति मलिन हो गई, जैसे आपके आगमन को सुनकर राजा बलहीन हो गए।
