Chapter 237 · The moon and Sītā's face · Verses 1–

Praising Sītā's loveliness in his heart, the brothers go to the guru. Rāma tells Kauśika everything; his simple nature has no touch of deceit. The sage receives the flowers, does his worship and blesses the brothers: may your wishes be fulfilled. Rāma and Lakṣmaṇa are glad. After the meal the sage tells old stories. When the day has gone, with the guru's leave the brothers go to do their evening prayers. A lovely moon rises in the east, and seeing it like Sītā's face Rāma is pleased, then thinks that no moon equals Sītā's face. It is born in the ocean, its brother is poison, it is dull by day and has a stain: how can the poor moon equal her face?
