Chapter 227 · The king's flower garden · Verses 1–

Having finished their morning needs, bathed and completed their daily rites, the brothers bow to the sage. Knowing it is time, and with the guru's leave, they set out to gather flowers. They see the king's fine garden, where it seems spring itself stays enchanted. Many lovely trees stand there, with creepers of every colour forming canopies. New leaves, fruits and flowers put the gods' wishing-trees to shame, and birds sing while peacocks dance. In the middle of the garden is a lovely lake with wonderful steps of jewels, clear water and lotuses of many colours, with water-birds calling and bees humming. Seeing the garden and lake, the Lord and his brother are glad.
