चापत चरन लखनु उर लाएँ
As night comes the sage gives the order, and all say the evening prayers. Telling old stories, two watches of the lovely night pass. The great sage lies down, and the two brothers press his feet, the same feet for which ascetics do many kinds of prayer and yoga. They seem won by love, rubbing the guru's lotus feet gladly. When the sage tells them again and again to go, Raghubara lies down. Lakṣmaṇa presses Rāma's feet, holding them to his chest, afraid, loving and content. Again and again the Lord tells him to sleep, and he lies down with those lotus feet in his heart. At dawn Lakṣmaṇa rises on hearing the cock, but wise Rāma, lord of the world, was awake before the guru.रात का प्रवेश होने पर मुनि ने आज्ञा दी और सबने संध्या-वंदन किया। प्राचीन कथाएँ और इतिहास कहते-कहते सुहावनी रात के दो पहर बीत गए। तब मुनिवर ने जाकर शयन किया और दोनों भाई उनके चरण दबाने लगे। जिन चरण-कमलों के लिए वैरागी अनेक प्रकार के जप और योग करते हैं, वे ही दोनों भाई मानो प्रेम से जीते हुए गुरु के चरण-कमल प्रसन्नता से सहला रहे थे। मुनि ने बार-बार आज्ञा दी, तब रघुबर जाकर लेटे। लक्ष्मण राम के चरण हृदय से लगाकर दबाते थे, भयभीत भी और प्रेम से भरे भी, और परम संतोष पाकर। प्रभु बार-बार कहते, 'तात, सो जाओ,' तब वे राम के चरण-कमल हृदय में धरे हुए लेटे। रात बीती जानकर लक्ष्मण मुर्गे की ध्वनि सुनकर उठे, पर सुजान राम, जगत के स्वामी, गुरु से भी पहले जाग चुके थे।

वही दोनों भाई मानो प्रेम से जीते हुए, प्रसन्नता से गुरु के चरण-कमल सहला रहे थे। मुनि ने बार-बार आज्ञा दी, तब रघुबर जाकर लेटे।

रात बीती जानकर लक्ष्मण मुर्गे की बाँग कानों में सुनकर उठे। सुजान राम, जगत के स्वामी, गुरु से भी पहले जाग चुके थे।
Lakṣmaṇa rose when he heard the cock's crow, knowing that night was over. Wise Rāma, lord of the world, had woken even before the guru.
